Soybeans contain 35–40% protein.

„Soybeans contain 35–40% protein. 80% of this protein consists of globulins. The seeds also contain carbohydrates (about 30%), oil (20%), and mineral salts (5%). Four groups can be distinguished among the active compounds found in soybeans: proteinase inhibitors Soybeans also contain allergens, 16 of which have been identified, for example:”Nasiona soi zawierają 35-40% białek.

Soy isoflavones can bind to estrogen receptors.

„Isoflavones, also called phytoestrogens (daidzein, genistein), can bind to estrogen receptors. They have a beneficial effect on the bodies of women approaching menopause and during menopause. They improve the condition of the skin and hair, help prevent heart attacks, and prevent mental disorders and autonomic symptoms associated with a decrease in estrogen levels in the tissues.”Izoflawony zwane również fitosestrogenami (daidzeina, genisteina) mają zdolność łączenia się z receptorami estrogennymi.

Soy isoflavones are an ingredient in products intended for hormone replacement therapy.

„There are many products containing soy isoflavones intended for hormone replacement therapy. Phytic acid (about 1.4%) is a compound formed from inositol and phosphoric acid (a hexaphosphate derivative of inositol). In plants, phytic acid and its magnesium and calcium salts make it possible to store phosphate.”Istnieją liczne preparaty zawierające izoflawony sojowe przeznaczone do hormonalnej terapii zastępczej. Kwas fitynowy (około 1,4%) jest to związek powstający z inozytolu i kwasu fosforowego (sześciofosforanowa pochodna inozytolu). U roślin kwas fitynowy i jego sole magnezowe i wapniowe daje możliwość tworzenia formy spichrzowej fosforanu.

Soy is presented as a source of plant isoflavonoids that may help during menopause.

„Soy is undoubtedly the best source of these compounds and a woman’s friend during menopause. That is why it is worth looking for soy in the ingredients of dietary supplements that may help during menopause. Herbs and plant extracts can also work wonderfully for most women. They have been known and used for centuries as remedies for the symptoms women experience during menopause.”Najlepszym ich źródłem, a jednocześnie przyjacielem kobiety w okresie menopauzalnym jest soja. Dlatego to jej należy szukać w składzie suplementów diety pomocnych w menopauzie.

Phytin can bind calcium and magnesium and make them harder to absorb.

„Phytin in complex compounds Free phytic acid in the human body (in bodily fluids and the digestive tract) has an adverse effect because it begins to bind calcium, magnesium, some proteins, and zinc, forming a typical complex compound. This can disrupt the body’s mineral balance (calcium balance) and make it harder to absorb calcium and magnesium from intestinal chyme (a traditional term for digested, liquefied food prepared for absorption by the intestinal villi).”Fityna w związku kompleksowym Wolny kwas fitynowy w organizmie człowieka (płyny ustrojowe, przewód pokarmowy) działa niekorzystnie, bowiem zaczyna wiązać wapń, magnez, niektóre białka, cynk, dążąc do stworzenia typowego związku kompleksowego.

Excess phytin in the diet may contribute to osteoporosis and osteomalacia.

„Excess phytin in the diet contributes to osteoporosis and osteomalacia. Proteinase inhibitors in soy have an anti-cancer effect. They inhibit proteolysis, the enzymatic breakdown of proteins, including at the cellular level. They also inhibit trypsin and chymotrypsin (digestive system enzymes).”Nadmiar fityn w diecie sprzyja osteoporozie i osteomalacji Inhibitory proteinazy zawarte w soi mają działanie przeciwnowotworowe.

In people with sensitivities, soy allergens may cause skin rashes and gastrointestinal problems.

„In people with sensitivities (genetic predispositions), soy allergens cause skin rashes and gastrointestinal problems. Saponins (about 4–6%) in soybeans are pentacyclic triterpenes. They can bind cholesterol, thereby lowering blood cholesterol levels and helping prevent atherosclerosis.”Alergeny sojowe wywołują u osób nadwrażliwych (genetyczne dyspozycje) wysypki skórne oraz zaburzenia żołądkowo-jelitowe. Saponiny (ok. 4-6%) zawarte w nasionach soi mają charakter pentacyklicznych triterpenów. Maja zdolność kompleksowania cholesterolu, dzięki czemu obniżają poziom cholesterolu we krwi i wpływają przeciwmiażdżycowo.

Alfalfa is presented as a possible alternative to soy for obtaining protein and phytoestrogen complexes.

„Alfalfa can undoubtedly be used as an alternative to soy for obtaining protein and phytoestrogen complexes. The herbal raw materials are alfalfa root, herb, and flower heads—Radix, Herba et Flos Medicago sativae. Flower heads with upper leaves and buds, the herb at the beginning of and during flowering, and alfalfa leaves contain organic acids (malic, maleic, malonic, quinic, fumaric, alpha-ketoglutaric, and shikimic acids), amino acids, coumarins (medicagol, scopoletin), and 0.5–3 percent isoflavones.”Niewątpliwie istnieje możliwość wykorzystania lucerny jako alternatywy dla soi w zakresie pozyskania białka i kompleksów fitoestrogenów.Surowcem zielarskim są: korzeń, ziele i kwiatostany lucerny – Radix, Herba et Flos Medicago sativae. Kwiatostany z górnymi liśćmi i pączkami, ziele w początkach i w czasie kwitnienia oraz liście lucerny zawierają kwasy organiczne (jabłkowy, maleinowy, malonowy, chinowy, fumarowy, alfa-ketoglutarowy, szikimowy), aminokwasy, kumaryny (medikagol, skopoletyna), izoflawony 0,5–3 proc.

Protein helps build and maintain muscles and provides amino acids needed to make enzymes, hormones, and other tissues.

„Instead, it helps build and maintain muscles and replenish the supply of amino acids used to make enzymes, hormones, and other tissues. We believe that an adequate amount of protein for adults is about 1.2 to 2.0 grams per kilogram (g/kg) of TARGET BODY WEIGHT per day.”Zamiast tego, służy do budowania i utrzymywania mięśni oraz uzupełniania zaopatrzenia w aminokwasy używane do wytwarzania enzymów, hormonów i innych tkanek.

Hubert Czerniak recommends a soy-free diet in the situation described.

„So in this situation we start following a diet free of gluten, casein, and soy. And what do our children learn at school? There is a so-called health pyramid, with gluten at its base. No one says that it is genetically modified.”Więc w takiej sytuacji zaczynamy stosować dietę bez glutenu, bez kazeiny i bez soi. A czego uczą nasze dzieci w szkole?

A meta-analysis of 41 studies found that neither soy nor isoflavones significantly change measured sex hormone levels in men.

Aim of the study: Concerns that the phytoestrogens (isoflavones) in soy may feminize men continue to be raised. Several studies and case reports describing feminizing effects, including lowering testosterone levels and raising estrogen levels in men, have been published.

Results: TT and FT levels were measured in 1,753 and 752 men, respectively; E2 and E1 levels were measured in 1,000 and 239 men, respectively; and SHBG was measured in 967 men. Regardless of the statistical model, no significant effects of soy protein or isoflavone intake on any of the outcomes measured were found. Sub-analyses of the data by isoflavone dose and study duration also showed no effect. This updated and expanded meta-analysis indicates that, regardless of dose and study duration, neither soy protein nor isoflavone exposure affects TT, FT, E2, or E1 levels in men.

A review of 40 studies found that soy isoflavones do not significantly affect measures of estrogenicity in postmenopausal women.

Aim of the study: Despite recommendations to increase plant food consumption for public and planetary health and the role that soy foods can play in plant-predominant diets, controversies around the effects of soy foods, especially soy isoflavones, are a barrier to their intake. Given their cardioprotective effects and ability to alleviate menopausal symptoms, addressing these concerns is particularly relevant to women.

Results: Current evidence suggests that soy isoflavones do not have estrogenic effects compared with controls that do not contain isoflavones, based on 4 measures of estrogenicity in postmenopausal women. This synthesis supports the view that soy isoflavones likely act as selective estrogen receptor modulators and differ clinically from the hormone estrogen. Addressing public health concerns may promote soy foods as high-quality plant protein sources with low environmental impact and cost, particularly benefiting postmenopausal women and aligning with sustainable dietary patterns and guidelines. This study was registered in PROSPERO as CRD42023439239.

A meta-analysis indicated that higher soy isoflavone intake is associated with a lower risk of breast cancer before and after menopause.

Aim of the study: Soy contains the isoflavones genistein and daidzein. Isoflavones are phytoestrogens, with a structure similar to that of the human hormone 17-β estradiol. They imitate estrogen’s action on organs by binding to and activating estrogen receptors. Numerous studies have examined the relationship between soy consumption and breast cancer, but not the amount consumed.

Results: Significant results were found when data from prospective studies comparing soy isoflavone consumption, breast cancer risk, and occurrence were analyzed statistically. The data indicated a clear inverse correlation between the amount of isoflavones consumed and breast cancer occurrence in pre- and postmenopausal women. Soy isoflavone consumption can reduce the risk of breast cancer in pre- and postmenopausal women.
