Henryk Różański

Gluten does not agree with everyone, and a gluten-free or low-gluten diet is recommended, among others, for people with celiac disease and the other conditions listed.

„It does not agree with everyone. People with inflammation of the intestinal lining, irritable bowel syndrome, diverticulitis, celiac disease, chronic constipation and bloating, or obesity should eat low-gluten or gluten-free foods. Gluten slows the passage of food through the digestive tract and sometimes makes food harder to digest by disrupting the penetration of bile and digestive enzymes into the food mass.”Nie wszystkim służy. Niskoglutenowe i bezglutenowe potrawy powinny konsumować osoby cierpiące na stany zapalane błony śluzowej jelit, na zespół jelita drażliwego, zapalenie uchyłków jelita, celiakię i przewlekłe zaparcia i wzdęcia oraz otyłość. Gluten spowalnia pasaż treści pokarmowej, niekiedy utrudnia trawienie pokarmu, przez zakłócanie penetracji masy pokarmowej przez żółć i enzymy trawienne.
Henryk Różański

Gluten can slow the passage of food through the digestive tract and sometimes make digestion more difficult.

„Gluten slows the passage of food through the digestive tract and sometimes makes food harder to digest by disrupting the penetration of bile and digestive enzymes into the food mass. A higher proportion of fiber in flour-based dishes (e.g. bran) offsets the adverse effects of gluten. It has been estimated that 36,000 people in Switzerland do not tolerate gluten.”Gluten spowalnia pasaż treści pokarmowej, niekiedy utrudnia trawienie pokarmu, przez zakłócanie penetracji masy pokarmowej przez żółć i enzymy trawienne. Większy udział włókna w potrawach mącznych (np. otręby) niweluje niekorzystne cechy glutenu. Oszacowano, że w Szwajcarii 36 000 osób nie toleruje glutenu.
Jerzy Zięba

According to Jerzy Zięba, gluten can make the gut leaky shortly after coming into contact with the intestinal wall.

„The gut becomes leaky within minutes of gluten coming into contact with the intestinal wall. If glyphosate, the main component of ubiquitous Roundup, is involved in this process, the gut literally becomes a sieve.

According to Jerzy Zięba, gluten is one of several factors that can lead to a leaky gut.

„One of the many factors that can lead to a leaky gut is the previously mentioned gluten, along with ubiquitous glyphosate, the active ingredient in the herbicide Roundup, produced by the giant Monsanto corporation. Anyone interested in these topics knows that Roundup is the most commonly used weed killer.”Jednym z wielu czynników, które mogą doprowadzić do rozszczelnienia jelita jest wspomniany wcześniej gluten oraz wszechobecny glifosat, który jest składnikiem czynnym herbicydu pod nazwą Roundup produkowanego przez gigantyczny koncern Monsanto. Każda osoba interesująca się tymi tematami wie, że Roundup jest najczęściej stosowanym środkiem chwastobójczym.
Hubert Czerniak

When the bacterial flora is damaged, gluten may not be broken down into small pieces; Hubert Czerniak says this often affects children in the ASD group.

„The lack of this enzyme means that casein and gluten are not broken down into small pieces, because damaged bacterial flora does not contain this enzyme. This is often the case in children in the ASD group. This is how casomorphin and gluteomorphin are formed. They enter the bloodstream and stimulate opioid receptors, causing mental dullness.”Brak tego enzymu powoduje, że kazeina i gluten nie są trawione na małe kawałki, ponieważ uszkodzona flora bakteryjna nie posiada tego enzymu, co często dotyczy dzieci z grupy ASD. I tak powstają kazeomorfina i gluteomorfina, które wnikają do krwiobiegu, a to substancje pobudzające receptory opioidowe i powodujące otępienie.

The review indicates that gluten triggers celiac disease in genetically susceptible people, but most people at genetic risk do not develop the disease.

Aim of the study: Coeliac disease (CD) is an immune-mediated disorder triggered by the ingestion of gluten in genetically susceptible individuals. However, only a small proportion of subjects harbouring CD-related genetic risk develop the disease.

Results: Better knowledge of environmental exposures apart from gluten can facilitate understanding of the pathogenesis of the disorder and the wide heterogeneity of its clinical spectrum. The purpose of this review is to discuss current knowledge on environmental CD risk factors, as well as possible interaction between them, on the grounds of the reliable scientific evidence available. Key messages The risk of developing CD is influenced not only by gluten ingestion but also by a number of environmental factors including childhood infections and variability in gut microbiota, pre- and perinatal factors, infant feeding practices, delivery methods, parental lifestyle, seasonality, dietary factors and drug use, acting mainly by disrupting intestinal permeability. Better knowledge of exposure to these factors can facilitate their identification, and subsequent elimination, in the individual patient.

The review describes celiac disease as a condition triggered by gluten in genetically susceptible people, and estimates its prevalence in the general population at about 1%.

Aim of the study: Coeliac disease is an autoimmune disorder that primarily affects the small intestine, and is caused by the ingestion of gluten in genetically susceptible individuals. Prevalence in the general population ranges from 0·5% to 2%, with an average of about 1%.

Results: Clinical presentation of coeliac disease is highly variable and includes classical and non-classical gastrointestinal symptoms, extraintestinal manifestations, and subclinical cases. The disease is associated with a risk of complications, such as osteoporosis and intestinal lymphoma. Diagnosis of coeliac disease requires a positive serology (IgA anti-transglutaminase 2 and anti-endomysial antibodies) and villous atrophy on small-intestinal biopsy. Treatment involves a gluten-free diet; however, owing to the high psychosocial burden of such a diet, research into alternative pharmacological treatments is currently very active.

The review indicates that gluten triggers celiac disease in genetically susceptible people, while also describing separate, less clearly defined cases of gluten sensitivity.

Aim of the study: Coeliac disease (CD) is a systemic immune-mediated disorder elicited by gluten in genetically susceptible individuals. The common factor for all patients with CD is the presence of a variable combination of gluten-dependent clinical manifestations, specific autoantibodies (anti-tissue transglutaminase/anti-endomysium), HLA-DQ2 and/or DQ8 haplotypes and different degrees of enteropathy.

Results: Recently, gluten sensitivity has received much interest, although the limits and possible overlap between gluten sensitivity and CD remain poorly defined. At present, a number of morphological, functional and immunological disorders that are lacking one or more of the key CD criteria (enteropathy, associated HLA haplotypes and presence of anti-transglutaminase two antibodies) but respond to gluten exclusion are included under the umbrella of gluten sensitivity. The possible immunological mechanisms underlying these conditions are discussed. Emphasis is given to specific autoantibodies as markers of the coeliac spectrum and to the hypothesis that innate epithelial stress can exist independently from adaptive intestinal immunity in gluten sensitivity.

The agreed definition describes celiac disease as a disease of the small intestine triggered by gluten in people with a genetic predisposition.

Aim of the study: The literature suggests a lack of consensus on the use of terms related to coeliac disease (CD) and gluten.

Results: CD was defined as 'a chronic small intestinal immune-mediated enteropathy precipitated by exposure to dietary gluten in genetically predisposed individuals'. Classical CD was defined as 'CD presenting with signs and symptoms of malabsorption. Diarrhoea, steatorrhoea, weight loss or growth failure is required.' 'Gluten-related disorders' is the suggested umbrella term for all diseases triggered by gluten and the term gluten intolerance should not to be used. Other definitions are presented in the paper. This paper presents the Oslo definitions for CD-related terms.

The review indicates that celiac disease develops in people with a genetic predisposition who consume gluten.

Aim of the study: Celiac disease is a complex immune-mediated gluten-sensitive enteropathy with protean clinical manifestations. It is manifest in genetically predisposed individuals who ingest gluten in varying amounts.

Results: Comprehensive nutritional management after diagnosis is key to sustained health in patients with celiac disease. Simple algorithms for care based on a comprehensive multidisciplinary approach are proposed. Refractory and non-responsive celiac diseases in the setting of a gluten-free diet are examined as are novel non-dietary therapies. Finally, the association of other disease states including psychiatric illness, infertility, lymphoproliferative malignancy, and mortality is explored with special attention paid to autoimmune and atopic disease.

Gluten triggers celiac disease and may cause symptoms of sensitivity in some people without celiac disease.

Aim of the study: Celiac disease is a common chronic inflammatory condition of the small bowel triggered by gluten in wheat, rye and barley in the diet. Non-celiac gluten sensitivity presents with symptoms similar to celiac disease with the ingestion of gluten or other components of wheat. In this article, we review challenges presented by a gluten free diet for the treatment of both disorders.

Results: Wheat is ubiquitous in the diet and medications/products. A registered dietitian is mandatory for patient education on the gluten free diet. Naturally gluten free foods provide a healthy diet for those with celiac disease. Whole grains labelled gluten free, including oats, are encouraged in the diet as refined grains may be deficient in fiber, protein, and micronutrients, particularly folate. Gluten contamination is the most common cause of persistent symptoms in celiac disease though shared equipment of food preparation may not be as large a problem as suspected. Most with celiac disease on a gluten free diet will fully recover and gain weight that poses a problem for those overweight to start. The gluten free diet may have a negative impact on quality of life for both celiac patients and their families. Those with hypervigilance of the gluten free diet and avoidance of dining out have the lowest quality of life.

„However, there is one autoimmune disease for which we do know the cause and that is celiac disease, which is caused by gluten. After going gluten-free for only a few weeks, some individuals see benefits and a reduction in their celiac symptoms. Most significantly, gluten has clearly been shown to cause symptoms that can result in a diagnosis of MS. In some cases, a diagnosis of MS has been reversed by simply eliminating gluten from the diet. Although for some people this requires some learning, it is essentially free because gluten-free food is widely available.
