Sources: 11 · Article: 14 810 characters

Jan Jaśkowski recommends taking 3 g of glycine daily for two weeks and 5 g of activated charcoal every 8 hours while drinking and for two days afterward.

  • According to him, glycine may reduce inflammation and fatty liver, and support the repair and regeneration of liver cells.
  • Jan Jaśkowski also links glycine supplementation to faster improvement in liver enzyme levels and less tissue damage.
  • Prof. Sucharit Bhakdi says that in its early stages, toxic hepatitis usually resolves once the cause is removed.

After drinking alcohol, it is worth knowing how to limit side effects and support your liver.

„No one needs to be convinced anymore that alcohol is harmful, and we believe our readers are aware of the dangers of drinking too much. However, most of us do drink alcohol from time to time, so it is worth knowing how to minimize the side effects and support the liver after drinking.”O szkodliwości alkoholu nikogo nie trzeba już przekonywać i wierzymy, że nasi czytelnicy są świadomi zagrożeń, jakie niesie ze sobą jego nadmierne spożywanie. Większości z nas zdarza się jednak pić alkohol, dlatego warto wiedzieć, jak zminimalizować skutki uboczne jego spożywania i jak wspomóc wątrobę po wypiciu alkoholu.

Glycine may speed up liver recovery after alcohol-related damage, reduce inflammation and fatty liver, and support cell repair.

„Studies strongly suggest that glycine helps speed up liver recovery after alcohol-related damage. It works by reducing inflammation and oxidative stress, and reducing fat buildup (fatty liver) in the liver. It also improves liver enzyme levels and supports cell repair, making it a potential ally for a liver burdened by alcohol.”Badania zdecydowanie sugerują, że glicyna pomaga przyspieszyć regenerację wątroby po uszkodzeniu spowodowanym alkoholem. Działa poprzez redukcję stanu zapalnego, stresu oksydacyjnego i zmniejszenie akumulacji tłuszczu (stłuszczenia) w wątrobie. Poprawia również poziom enzymów wątrobowych i wspomaga naprawę komórek, co czyni ją potencjalnym sprzymierzeńcem dla obciążonej alkoholem wątroby.
Jan Jaśkowski

Glycine supplementation is linked to faster improvement in liver enzyme levels and less tissue damage.

„Studies also show that glycine supplementation leads to faster normalization of liver enzymes (AST, ALT), fewer inflammatory cells, and less tissue damage (necrosis). It has also been shown to improve antioxidant defense systems in animal models of alcohol-induced liver damage.”Badania pokazują także, że suplementacja glicyną prowadzi do szybszej normalizacji enzymów wątrobowych (AST, ALT), zmniejszenia liczby komórek zapalnych oraz zmniejszenia uszkodzeń tkanek (martwicy). Dowiedziono także poprawę systemów obrony antyoksydacyjnej w modelach zwierzęcych z uszkodzeniem wątroby wywołanym alkoholem.

Glycine may reduce inflammation and oxidative stress, reduce fatty liver, protect liver cells, and support their regeneration.

„Reduces inflammation: lowers levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-alpha and limits the infiltration of inflammatory cells. Fights oxidative stress: strengthens antioxidant enzymes (such as SOD, CAT, GSH) and reduces lipid peroxidation, limiting damage caused by reactive oxygen species (ROS). Reduces fat buildup: helps reduce fatty liver and related conditions. Protects cells: prevents apoptosis (cell death) of liver cells and supports liver regeneration.”Zmniejsza stan zapalny: zmniejsza poziom cytokin prozapalnych, takich jak TNF-alfa oraz ogranicza naciekanie komórek zapalnych. Zwalcza stres oksydacyjny: wzmacnia enzymy antyoksydacyjne (takie jak SOD, CAT, GSH) i zmniejsza peroksydację lipidów, zmniejszając uszkodzenia spowodowane reaktywnymi formami tlenu (ROS). Zmniejsza akumulację tłuszczu: pomaga zmniejszyć stłuszczenie wątroby i związane z nim patologie. Chroni komórki: zapobiega apoptozie (śmierci komórek) komórek wątroby i wspomaga regenerację wątroby.

Jan Jaśkowski recommends taking 3 g of glycine daily for two weeks and 5 g of activated charcoal every 8 hours while drinking and for two days afterward.

„It is also available as a dietary supplement. Three grams a day for two weeks is enough. Activated charcoal should be taken while drinking alcohol and for two days afterward, at a dose of 5 grams every 8 hours, two hours apart from food or medication.”Dostępna jest także w formie suplementu diety.

In its early stages, toxic hepatitis usually resolves once the cause is removed.

„In its early stages, toxic hepatitis is usually reversible upon withdrawal of the causative chemical agent. 4.4.4.3 Autoimmune hepatitis. This form of hepatitis is caused by an immune reaction to autoantigens which occur in liver tissue. Usually, multiple autoantigens are involved, and antibodies to these autoantigens are found in the blood.”In its early stages, toxic hepatitis is usually reversible upon withdrawal of the causative chemical agent. 4.4.4.3 Autoimmune hepatitis. In a mouse model of alcohol-induced liver damage, pectin and an AhR activator reduced liver lesions, and pectin’s beneficial effect depended on AhR.

Aim of the study: Chronic alcohol consumption is an important cause of liver-related deaths. Specific intestinal microbiota profiles are associated with susceptibility or resistance to alcoholic liver disease in both mice and humans. We aimed to identify the mechanisms by which targeting intestinal microbiota can improve alcohol-induced liver lesions.

Results: Pectin treatment modified the microbiome and metabolome in human microbiota-associated alcohol-fed mice, leading to a specific faecal signature. High production of bacterial tryptophan metabolites was associated with an improvement of liver injury. The AhR agonist Ficz (6-formylindolo (3,2-b) carbazole) reduced liver lesions, similarly to prebiotic treatment. Conversely, inactivation of the ahr gene in alcohol-fed AhR knock-out mice abrogated the beneficial effects of the prebiotic. Importantly, patients with severe alcoholic hepatitis have low levels of bacterial tryptophan derivatives that are AhR agonists. Improvement of alcoholic liver disease by targeting the intestinal microbiota involves the AhR pathway, which should be considered as a new therapeutic target.

A review indicates that zinc may ease alcohol-related liver damage in experimental studies, while in humans it improves symptoms of zinc deficiency.

Aim of the study: Zinc is an essential trace element required for normal cell growth, development, and differentiation. It is involved in DNA synthesis, RNA transcription, and cell division and activation.

Results: Zinc supplementation has been documented to block/attenuate experimental ALD through multiple processes, including stabilization of gut-barrier function, decreasing endotoxemia, decreasing proinflammatory cytokine production, decreasing oxidative stress, and attenuating apoptotic hepatocyte death. Clinical trials in human liver disease are limited in size and quality, but it is clear that zinc supplementation reverses clinical signs of zinc deficiency in patients with liver disease. Some studies suggest improvement in liver function in both ALD and hepatitis C following zinc supplementation, and 1 study suggested improved fibrosis markers in hepatitis C patients. The dose of zinc used for treatment of liver disease is usually 50 mg of elemental zinc taken with a meal to decrease the potential side effect of nausea.

In mice, a preparation made from inactivated Lactobacillus johnsonii bacteria eased alcohol-induced liver damage.

Aim of the study: Prolonged alcohol consumption disrupts the gut microbiota and the immune system, contributing to the pathogenesis of alcohol-associated liver disease (ALD). Probiotic-postbiotic intervention strategies can effectively relieve ALD by maintaining gut homeostasis.

Results: The heat-killed L. johnsonii provoked immunity helps correct the gut microbiota dysbiosis, specifically by reversing the reduction of butyrate-producing bacteria (such as Faecalibaculum rodentium) and the expansion of opportunistic pathogens (such as Helicobacter sp. and Pichia kudriavzevii) induced by ethanol. The findings provide novel insights into the gut microbiota-liver axis that may be leveraged to enhance the treatment of ALD.

A review identified abstinence from alcohol as the primary approach to managing alcohol-associated liver disease.

Aim of the study: Alcohol-associated liver disease is the leading cause of cirrhosis in the United States and has become the top indication for liver transplantation since direct-acting antivirals allowed for cure of hepatitis C. The COVID-19 pandemic compounded existing concerns about a rising prevalence of alcohol-associated hepatitis, with a notable increase in women in their 30s and 40s.

Results: Alcohol use screening is essential for all adults. Abstinence from alcohol remains the cornerstone intervention for alcohol-associated liver disease, although pharmacotherapies are under evaluation. Noninvasive liver disease assessment, including serum and imaging modalities, is expanding access to advanced liver disease evaluation in primary care settings. Other causes of substance-based liver injury include prescription and nonprescription medications, herbal products, and dietary supplements.

In mice, isorhamnetin eased alcohol-induced liver damage and reduced oxidative stress.

Aim of the study: Background: Alcoholic liver disease (ALD) refers to a progressive liver injury syndrome induced by chronic excessive alcohol intake. Current treatment options are mainly limited to symptom management, and there are safety risks associated with long-term use.

Results: Conclusions: Consistently, NMDS analysis based on the OTU level showed that the IS-treated groups clustered away from the EtOH group and shifted toward the Control group, indicating a partial restoration of the overall microbial community structure toward that of healthy controls. In terms of species composition, IS treatment enriched beneficial microbial communities and inhibited the proliferation of pathogenic bacteria, efficiently restoring intestinal flora homeostasis. Collectively, these findings suggested that the hepatoprotective effects of IS were closely associated with the amelioration of gut microbiota dysbiosis and intestinal barrier function, pointing to a potential involvement of the gut-liver axis, although its causal contribution remains to be confirmed by further mechanistic studies (e.g., microbiota depletion or fecal microbiota transplantation).
