Heat—why does summer deprive the heart of nitric oxide?

Sources: 7 · Article: 6 481 characters

Nathan S. Bryan claims that sunlight releases nitric oxide from the skin, lowering blood pressure and increasing blood flow.

  • He identifies high blood pressure and erectile dysfunction as signs of insufficient nitric oxide production.
  • He recommends exercise and eating dark green vegetables, as well as stopping the use of antacids and mouthwash and quitting smoking.
  • He presents restoring nitric oxide production as important for health.

Sunlight is said to release nitric oxide from the skin, lowering blood pressure and increasing blood flow.

„These effects are independent of Vitamin D and are explained by sunlight causing release of nitric oxide from skin stores. This has huge implications in health and disease. It is well known that people that live at higher latitudes have higher incidence of hypertension and cardiovascular disease.”These effects are independent of Vitamin D and are explained by sunlight causing release of nitric oxide from skin stores. High blood pressure and erectile dysfunction are identified as signs of insufficient nitric oxide production.

„Having high blood pressure or erectile dysfunction is not normal and it is your body telling you do not make enough nitric oxide. Stop using antacids and mouthwash. Stop smoking if you smoke. Get some physical exercise as exercise will help stimulate nitric oxide production.”Having high blood pressure or erectile dysfunction is not normal and it is your body telling you do not make enough nitric oxide. Nathan S. Bryan recommends exercise and dark green vegetables, as well as stopping the use of antacids and mouthwash and quitting smoking.

„Stop using antacids and mouthwash. Stop smoking if you smoke. Get some physical exercise as exercise will help stimulate nitric oxide production. Work in a few more vegetables in your diet (primarily dark leafy greens) Consider a nitric oxide dietary supplement or nutritional regimen as a simple means to restore NO production.”Stop using antacids and mouthwash. Nathan S. Bryan presents restoring nitric oxide production as important for health.

„It is crucial to understand how the body normally makes nitric oxide and what goes wrong in people that cannot make it. If you don’t understand these two fundamental principles, then you can never effectively and efficiently restore your body’s nitric oxide production and as a result, you cannot optimize your body’s performance and health.”It is crucial to understand how the body normally makes nitric oxide and what goes wrong in people that cannot make it. During whole-body heat stress, nitric oxide played only a small role in the increase in skin blood flow.

Aim of the study: The discovery of endothelial-derived relaxing factor, and later nitric oxide (NO), as a biologically active substance led to intense focus on the vascular endothelium as a major site of physiological regulation and pathophysiological dysfunction. NO is clearly a potent vasodilator and plays a key role in establishing both whole body and regional "vascular tone".

Results: Surprisingly, it was found that NO plays only a modest (non-obligatory) role in exercise hyperemia, reactive hyperemia and the neurally mediated rise in skin blood flow during whole body heat stress. By contrast, NO plays a major role in the skeletal muscle vasodilator responses to mental stress and the skin dilator responses to local heating. In animals, but not humans, NO can limit the ability of the sympathetic nerves to cause vasoconstriction in exercising muscles. Thus the role of NO in two of the most extreme dilator responses seen in nature is limited and in muscle the sympathetic nerves can restrain the dilation to defend arterial blood pressure.

„Endothelial dysfunction - characterized by impaired nitric oxide signaling, increased permeability, oxidative stress, and inflammatory activation - precedes and drives sustained vascular stiffness and pressure dysregulation. High blood pressure, in this context, reflects loss of endothelial boundary regulation and structural vascular resilience. Neuroinflammatory Disorders Blood-brain barrier compromise permits peripheral inflammatory mediators and immune cells to enter neural tissue, amplifying oxidative stress and microglial activation.”Endothelial dysfunction - characterized by impaired nitric oxide signaling, increased permeability, oxidative stress, and inflammatory activation - precedes and drives sustained vascular stiffness and pressure dysregulation.
