This use is based on traditional use, because evidence from clinical studies is not sufficient.
„This means that, although there is not enough evidence from clinical studies, the effectiveness of these herbal medicines is plausible and there is evidence that they have been used safely in this way for at least 30 years (including at least 15 years in the EU).”Oznacza to, że choć nie ma wystarczających dowodów z badań klinicznych, skuteczność tych leków roślinnych jest prawdopodobna i istnieją dowody, że były one bezpiecznie stosowane w ten sposób przez co najmniej 30 lat (w tym co najmniej 15 lat na terenie UE).

Small studies suggested possible temporary relief from stress, but had some limitations.
„Although a possible effect in the form of temporary relief from stress symptoms was observed, several limitations were identified in these studies. Therefore, the HMPC’s conclusions on the use of medicines containing rhodiola rosea rhizome and root are based on the plant’s long-standing use.”Pomimo iż obserwowano możliwy efekt pod postacią okresowego złagodzenia objawów stresu, w badaniach tych zidentyfikowano kilka niedociągnięć. Dlatego też wnioski HMPC dotyczące stosowania leków zawierających kłącze i korzeń różeńca górskiego opierają się na wieloletnim stosowaniu tej rośliny.

Henryk Różański lists physical and mental exhaustion, stress and fatigue among the uses of rhodiola.
„Uses: physical and mental exhaustion, learning difficulties, adjustment disorders in a new environment, stress, depression, intense training, and mental and physical work. A natural performance enhancer in sport. Prevention of the effects of intense training (speeding up the relief of muscle soreness, post-training recovery, and the reduction of swelling and muscle and periarticular exudates).”Zastosowanie: stany wyczerpania fizycznego i psychicznego, trudności w uczeniu się, zaburzenia przystosowawcze do nowego otoczenia, stres, depresja, intensywny trening i praca psychiczna oraz fizyczna. Naturalny doping w sporcie. Profilaktyka skutków intensywnego treningu (przyspieszanie ustępowania zakwasów, regeneracja potreningowa, przyspieszanie ustępowania obrzęków i wysięków mięśniowych i okołostawowych).

Henryk Różański describes rhodiola as a plant that increases physical and mental endurance and eases stress symptoms.
„It increases physical and mental endurance. It has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. It eases stress symptoms. It may be used in antidepressant therapy. Its active ingredients include phenylpropanoids (rosavins), phenylethyl derivatives (rhodioloside, p-tyrosol), phytosterols, flavonoids, phenolic acids (caffeic, gallic and chlorogenic), catechins and proanthocyanidins.”Zwiększa wytrzymałość fizyczną i psychiczną. Wywiera wpływ przeciwzapalny i antyrodnikowy. Łagodzi objawy stresu. Może być użyty do terapii antydepresyjnej. Składnikami czynnymi są fenylopropanoidy (rosaviny), fenyloetylopochodne (rodiolozyd, p-tyrosol), fitosterole, flawonoidy, fenolokwasy (kawowy, galusowy, chlorogenowy), katechiny, proantocyjanidyny.

Henryk Różański refers to rhodiola root as Arctic root.
„Because it comes from polar regions, the plant material is known in English as Arctic root. Rhodiola root is obtained from cultivated and wild plants – Radix Rhodiolae (German: Rosenwurz, Rosenwurzelstock; French: Rhodiole rose, orpin rose; English:”Z tego względu, że pochodzi z rejonów polarnych, surowiec nosi nazwę angielską Arctic root (korzeń arktyczny). At the time of the assessment, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) was not aware of any side effects associated with the use of rhodiola medicines, which were generally well tolerated.
„Medicines containing rhodiola rosea rhizome and root are generally well tolerated. At the time of the HMPC’s assessment, no side effects associated with the use of these medicines were known. The review indicates that rhodiola preparations may help relieve various stress-related symptoms.
Aim of the study: Rhodiola rosea L. has a long history of use in traditional medicine to stimulate the nervous system, treat stress-induced fatigue and depression, enhance physical performance and work productivity and treat gastrointestinal ailments and impotence.
Results: Moreover, even though most evidence originates from pre-clinical trials, several clinical studies have additionally demonstrated the remediating effects of R. rosea on cardiovascular and reproductive health by addressing non-specific stress damage and reversing or healing the disrupted physiologies and disfunctions. Overall, in accordance with its aim, the results presented in this review provide an encouraging basis for the clinical efficacy of R. rosea preparations in managing various aspects of stress-induced conditions.

The review describes clinical studies in which rhodiola extract reduced fatigue and burnout and improved concentration.
Aim of the study: The aim of this review article was to summarize accumulated information related to chemical composition, pharmacological activity, traditional and official use of Rhodiola rosea L. in medicine.
Results: They include interactions with HPA-system (cortisol-reducing), protein kinases p-JNK, nitric oxide, and defense mechanism proteins (e.g. heat shock proteins Hsp 70 and FoxO/DAF-16). Lack of interaction with other drugs and adverse effects in the course of clinical trials make it potentially attractive for use as a safe medication. In conclusion, Rhodiola rosea has robust traditional and pharmacological evidence of use in fatigue, and emerging evidence supporting cognition and mood.
