Type 2 diabetes: Does fasting address the cause, not just lower blood sugar?

Sources: 4 · Article: 7 503 characters

Ewa Dąbrowska claims that a fruit-and-vegetable fast treats the cause of type 2 diabetes by restricting the dietary pattern that causes the disease.

  • Ewa Dąbrowska identifies excess energy from refined carbohydrates and low physical activity as the cause; she links obesity with insulin resistance.
  • Ewa Dąbrowska explains that fasting is intended to reduce fat and obesity and increase cells’ sensitivity to insulin.
  • Ewa Dąbrowska describes improved blood sugar levels in many patients, but says medication during fasting should be adjusted gradually and under a doctor’s supervision.

Ewa Dąbrowska

Type 2 diabetes is linked to excess energy from refined carbohydrates and limited physical activity.

„Type 2 diabetes, however, is an entirely different disease, causally linked to an unhealthy lifestyle, mainly excess energy intake in the form of carbohydrates stripped of fiber, such as white flour and sugar, combined with limited physical activity, which prevents the body from burning off the excess energy consumed.”Natomiast cukrzyca typu 2 jest zupełnie inną chorobą, która wiąże się przyczynowo z wadliwym stylem życia, głównie z nadmiarem przyjętej energii w postaci oczyszczonych z błonnika węglowodanów, takich jak biała mąka i cukier, przy jednoczesnym ograniczeniu aktywności ruchowej, co uniemożliwia spalanie nadmiaru przyjętej energii.

Insulin resistance means that insulin is less effective at lowering blood glucose levels.

„Obesity is linked to what is known as insulin resistance, which means that insulin loses its ability to lower glucose. In this case, blood glucose levels rise, and we call this condition type 2 diabetes. A groundbreaking event was the discovery of leptin in 1994, a hormone produced by fat cells.”Z otyłością wiąże się tzw. insulinooporność, co oznacza, że insulina traci zdolność obniżania glukozy, więc w takim przypadku poziom glukozy we krwi wzrasta i stan ten nazywamy cukrzycą typu 2. Przełomowym wydarzeniem było odkrycie w 1994 roku leptyny, hormonu, który produkowały komórki tłuszczowe.

Ewa Dąbrowska says that fasting, by restricting food and glucose intake, reverses the dietary pattern considered to be the cause of the disease.

„A fruit-and-vegetable fast, as the name suggests, radically restricts food intake and also glucose intake. It is therefore the opposite of the previous dietary pattern, which caused the disease, so fasting treats the cause of diabetes. It activates fat burning. Introducing periodic fruit-and-vegetable fasts, even for 1–2 days a week, prevented diabetes from recurring in many cases.”Post warzywno-owocowy, jak sama nazwa wskazuje, jest radykalnym ograniczeniem dowozu pokarmu i także glukozy, więc stanowi przeciwieństwo dotychczasowego stylu żywienia, który był przyczyną choroby, zatem post leczy przyczynę cukrzycy. Uruchamia spalanie Wprowadzenie okresowych postów warzywno-owocowych, nawet 1-2 dni w tygodniu, w wielu przypadkach zapobiegło nawrotom cukrzycy.

According to Ewa Dąbrowska, by reducing visceral fat and fatty deposits in organs, fasting improves insulin sensitivity and may lead to the disease going into remission.

„A fruit-and-vegetable fast, by reducing visceral fat and fatty deposits in organs, improves insulin sensitivity. It may also restore pancreatic function and lead to the disease going into remission. In addition, fasting may limit, and sometimes even reverse, diabetic complications: polyneuropathy (nerve damage), nephropathy (kidney damage), angiopathy (damage to blood vessels, e.g.”Post warzywno-owocowy, redukując tłuszcz trzewny i stłuszczenie narządów, poprawia wrażliwość na insulinę.

Ewa Dąbrowska reports that after one week of fasting, blood sugar levels returned to normal in 83 percent of patients, who were then able to stop taking their medication.

„In our material, blood sugar levels returned to normal after just one week of a fruit-and-vegetable fast in 83 percent of patients with diabetes, and they were able to stop taking their medication. Most of these patients were obese. Our observations of patients with diabetes and other diseases during fruit-and-vegetable fasting have been long-term and involve hundreds of people.”W naszym materiale u 83 proc. chorych z cukrzycą już po jednym tygodniu postu warzywno-owocowego nastąpiła normalizacja poziomu cukru i leki można było odstawić. W grupie tej byli to głównie pacjenci z otyłością. Nasze obserwacje pacjentów z cukrzycą, jak również innymi chorobami, w czasie postu warzywno-owocowego są długotrwałe i dotyczą setek osób.

Ewa Dąbrowska links the introduction of periodic fasts with preventing diabetes from recurring in many cases.

„Continuing to take blood-sugar-lowering medication, especially insulin, during a fast carries a risk of dangerously low blood sugar. Later, switching to a balanced diet and introducing periodic fruit-and-vegetable fasts, even for 1–2 days a week, prevented diabetes from recurring in many cases.”W przypadku dalszego przyjmowania leków obniżających cukier, a szczególnie insuliny, w trakcie postu istnieje niebezpieczeństwo poważnego niedocukrzenia. Późniejsza zmiana żywienia na pełnowartościowe i wprowadzenie okresowych postów warzywno-owocowych, nawet 1-2 dni w tygodniu, w wielu przypadkach zapobiegło nawrotom cukrzycy.

Higher fruit and vegetable consumption was associated with a lower risk of prediabetes, but the association was not significant in cohort studies.

Aim of the study: Background/Objectives: Previous studies have reported inconsistent findings regarding the association between fruit and vegetable consumption and prediabetes. Therefore, we aimed to investigate this association using a meta-analysis, following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines.

Results: Subgroup analysis by study design showed a significant association in cross-sectional studies (OR, 0.81; 95% CI, 0.70-0.94; I2 = 91.6%; n = 16), whereas cohort studies showed no significant association (OR, 0.97; 95% CI, 0.92-1.02; I2 = 15.1%; n = 3). Subgroup analyses by sex indicated a significant inverse association among male participants (OR, 0.77; 95% CI, 0.61-0.97; I2 = 63.3%; n = 4), but not among female participants (OR, 0.97; 95% CI, 0.69-1.37; I2 = 82.1%; n = 3). Conclusions: Overall, this meta-analysis indicates that greater fruit and vegetable consumption is associated with a reduced risk of prediabetes. However, additional prospective cohort studies are required to clarify potential confounding factors and confirm this association.
