Antidepressant herbs are said to improve mood.
„Antidepressant herbs improve mood. They also relieve autonomic neuroses, and some relieve excessive psychomotor agitation. Depression is a decline in the activity of the noradrenergic system, which is essential for normal sleep, wakefulness, memory, motor activity, readiness to act, concentration, learning, and remembering.”Zioła przeciwdepresyjne pobudzają nastrój.

Plants that act on the noradrenergic and serotonergic systems are used to treat depression.
„Plants used to treat depression enhance neurotransmission in the noradrenergic and serotonergic systems, inhibit the neuronal reuptake of noradrenaline, selectively inhibit serotonin reuptake, and act as monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAO inhibitors).”W leczeniu depresji stosuje się rośliny nasilające neurotransmisję w układzie noradrenergicznym i serotoninergicznym, hamujące wychwyt doneuronalny noradrenaliny, hamujące selektywnie wychwyt serotoniny i mające charakter inhibitorów oksydazy monoaminowej (inhibitory MAO).

Henryk Różański warns that diviner’s sage is not recommended because it may cause poisoning.
„Salvia divinorum Epling et Jativa-M (Yerba de Maria), from the Labiacae family, diviner’s sage, is native to Central America and is sometimes grown here; it is not recommended because it may cause poisoning.
7. Strychnos nux vomica Linne, from the Loganiaceae family, strychnine tree; native to South Asia and also grown in West Africa.”Salvia divinorum Epling et Jativa-M (Yerba de Maria), z rodziny Labiacae, szałwia wieszcza, pochodzi z Ameryki Środkowej, czasem u nas uprawiana; nie jest polecana ze względu na możliwość zatrucia.
7. Strychnos nux vomica Linne, z rodziny Loganiaceae, kulczyba wronie oko; pochodzi z Południowej Azji, uprawiana również w Afryce Zachodniej.

Henryk Różański describes St. John’s wort oil as being used to treat depression and notes its mood-improving effects.
„Lipophilic ingredients pass into the oil. They stimulate the central nervous system and have antidepressant, bile-forming, bile-stimulating, and antispasmodic effects. Oil extracts are used to treat depression, neuroses, reluctance to study, anxiety, and liver conditions.
Capsules containing Johanniskrautöl, or St. John’s wort oil, said to improve mood and have antidepressant effects.”Do oleju przechodzą lipofilne składniki o działaniu stymulującym ośrodkowy układ nerwowy, przeciwdepresyjnym, żółciotwórczym, żółciopędnym i rozkurczowym. Wyciągi olejowe stosowane są w leczeniu depresji, nerwic, niechęci do nauki, niepokoju i schorzeń wątroby.
Kapsułki zawierające Johanniskrautöl, czyli olej z dziurawca o działaniu poprawiającym nastrój i przeciwdepresyjnym
Henryk Różański
Henryk Różański states that capsules with St. John’s wort oil contain 200 mg of oil and recommends taking two capsules three times a day.
„Each capsule contains 200 mg of red St. John’s wort oil (Johanniskrautöl) and 40 mg of soy lecithin (Sojalecithin). The recommended dose is 2 capsules 3 times a day. On some of my websites, I have described how to prepare St. John’s wort oil rich in antidepressant ingredients.”Każda kapsułka zawiera czerwony olej z dziurawca 200 mg (Johanniskrautöl) i 40 mg lecytyny sojowej (Sojalecithin).Zalecana dawka 2 kaps. 3 razy dziennie. Na niektorych moich stronach opisałem sposób przygotowania oleju dziurawcowego bogatego w składniki przeciwdepresyjne.

Depression should not be reduced solely to a serotonin deficiency; metabolism, inflammation, vitamin D, exercise, and lifestyle may also matter.
„Depression is a complex problem that cannot be reduced solely to a “serotonin deficiency.” Growing evidence suggests that other factors are very important, such as the body’s metabolic processes, inflammation, vitamin D levels, and, indirectly, physical activity and lifestyle.”Depresja to złożony problem, którego nie można sprowadzić wyłącznie do „niedoboru serotoniny”. Coraz więcej dowodów wskazuje, że ogromne znaczenie mają inne czynniki, takie jak procesy metaboliczne organizmu, stany zapalne, poziom witaminy D, a pośrednio także aktywność fizyczna i styl życia.
Jan Jaśkowski
Jan Jaśkowski lists exercise, a suitable diet, sunlight, thyroid tests, vitamin D3, and creatine as ways to support the body.
„A sensible approach is therefore to support the body in a comprehensive way — through exercise, a suitable diet, exposure to sunlight, thyroid tests, and supplements that support cellular energy production, such as vitamin D3 and creatine.
In the next article in the series, Jan Jaśkowski will describe further ways to support mental health and strengthen psychological resilience.”Dlatego rozsądnym podejściem jest wszechstronne wsparcie organizmu – poprzez ruch, odpowiednią dietę, ekspozycję na słońce, badania tarczycy, a także suplementy wspierające energetykę komórkową, takie jak witamina D3 i kreatyna.
W następnym artykule w serii Jan Jaśkowski opisze kolejne metody wspierania zdrowia psychicznego i wzmacniania odporności psychicznej.
Jan Jaśkowski
Jan Jaśkowski links stress to disrupted metabolism and says that thyroid hormone levels are worth checking in cases of apathy, low energy, or sleep problems.
„Stress affects our metabolism, limiting energy production at the cellular level. When metabolism is disrupted, the nervous system also suffers. From this perspective, preventing mental health problems should include caring for our well-being and, therefore, for a healthy metabolism.”Stres wpływa na nasz metabolizm, ograniczając produkcję energii na poziomie komórkowym.
Jan Jaśkowski recommends checking thyroid hormone levels in cases of apathy, low energy, or sleep problems.
„The thyroid plays a key role in metabolism. People with hypothyroidism are much more likely to struggle with depression. Therefore, when symptoms such as apathy, low energy, or sleep problems occur, it is worth checking thyroid hormone levels (TSH, FT3, FT4).”Kluczową rolę w metabolizmie odgrywa tarczyca. Osoby z niedoczynnością tarczycy znacznie częściej zmagają się z depresją. Dlatego przy objawach takich jak apatia, spadek energii czy problemy ze snem, warto zbadać poziom hormonów tarczycy (TSH, FT3, FT4).
Andrzej Frydrychowski
Andrzej Frydrychowski lists exercise, stress relief, meditation, cannabis oils, omega-3 fatty acids, and avoiding flour and sugar.
„Lifestyle, essential exercise, and stress relief (cannabis oils, meditation). Positive thinking (torsion fields).
Eliminate inflammation. Take omega-3 (cod-liver oil, flaxseed or krill oil, hemp oil, fatty fish). No flour or sugar.”Styl życia, niezbędny ruch, rozładowanie stresu (olejki z konopi, medytacje). Pozytywne myślenie (pola torsyjne).
Wyłączenie stanów zapalnych. Podawanie Omegi 3 (tran, olej z lnu czy kryla, konopi, tłuste ryby). Zero mąki i cukru.

We selected 2 studies with the best, positive results. This is a selection, not a full review of all research.
Total number of studies on this topic in PubMed: 18.
The review found that St. John’s wort and exercise have the strongest evidence of effectiveness among the methods discussed, but the evidence supporting them is weaker than that for standard treatments.
Aim of the study: To review the evidence for the effectiveness of complementary and self-help treatments for depression.
Results: The treatments with the best evidence of effectiveness are St John's wort, exercise, bibliotherapy involving cognitive behaviour therapy and light therapy (for winter depression). There is some limited evidence to support the effectiveness of acupuncture, light therapy (for non-seasonal depression), massage therapy, negative air ionisation (for winter depression), relaxation therapy, S-adenosylmethionine, folate and yoga breathing exercises. Although none of the treatments reviewed is as well supported by evidence as standard treatments such as antidepressants and cognitive behaviour therapy, many warrant further research.

The review found that placebo-controlled trials support the effectiveness of several methods, including St. John’s wort, exercise, and light therapy, in treating depression.
Aim of the study: This review evaluates the research published between 1966 and 2004 on several integrative treatments for depression, including omega-3 fatty acids, Hypericum perforatum (St. John's Wort), S-adenosyl-methionine, folate, 5-Hydroxytryptophan, acupuncture, exercise, and light therapy, with a particular emphasis on issues pertinent to women.
Results: Available data pertaining to considerations in women, including use during pregnancy and breastfeeding and interactions with hormonal therapies are discussed. The reviewed treatments deserve further research. Their appropriate place in the armamentarium of depression treatments for women must be defined. An evidence-based integrative medicine approach brings together treatment options with proven efficacy and the public's desire for complementary and alternative medicine treatments.
