Exercise While Fasting — Does Exercising on Vegetables Alone Speed Up Weight Loss?

Sources: 4 · Article: 5 805 characters

Ewa Dąbrowska describes a fruit-and-vegetable fast combined with exercise as a way to address the causes of obesity, but does not say whether the weight loss lasts.

  • Ewa Dąbrowska writes that fasting helps reduce body fat and that insulin levels fall during a fast.
  • Bracia Rodzeń point out that physical activity alone is not enough for long-term weight loss without changing eating habits.
  • One case description reports a 13 kg weight loss and three years of follow-up, but does not say whether the weight loss was lasting.

Combining fasting with exercise is intended to address excess calorie intake and lack of exercise, which Ewa Dąbrowska identifies as causes of disease.

„A fruit-and-vegetable fast combined with exercise directly addresses the causes of disease: excess calorie intake and lack of exercise. Obesity is a hormonal disorder. Two hormones play a key role: insulin (produced by the pancreas) and cortisol (a stress hormone produced by the adrenal glands).”Post warzywno-owocowy, połączony z ruchem, działa bezpośrednio na przyczyny chorób: nadmiar kalorii i niedobór ruchu. Otyłość to zaburzenie hormonalne. Kluczową rolę odgrywają dwa hormony: insulina (produkowana przez trzustkę) i kortyzol (hormon stresu wytwarzany przez nadnercza).

During a fast, insulin levels fall, which is said to trigger processes that reduce body weight.

„pizza, white bread, sweets) leads to an increase in insulin levels. Excess insulin can reprogram the metabolism to store fat. During a fast, insulin levels fall, triggering processes that reduce body weight and reverse metabolic diseases.”pizza, białe pieczywo, słodycze) prowadzi do wzrostu poziomu insuliny. Nadmiar insuliny może przeprogramować metabolizm w kierunku odkładania tłuszczu. W czasie postu poziom insuliny spada, co uruchamia procesy redukcji masy ciała i cofania się chorób metabolicznych.

Ewa Dąbrowska says that fasting helps reduce excess body fat.

„Fasting helps reduce excess body fat and reverses fatty liver. As a result, cells become more sensitive to insulin, which is important because insulin resistance underlies many metabolic diseases: type 2 diabetes, atherosclerosis, hypertension, lipid disorders, and gout.”Post wspomaga redukcję nadmiaru tkanki tłuszczowej i cofa stłuszczenie wątroby.

Physical activity alone is not said to ensure long-term weight loss if eating habits do not change.

„You can run Ironman races and work out 5 times a week, but if you don’t change your eating habits, you won’t lose weight in the long term. Of course, that’s no reason not to exercise. You may not lose weight by exercising, but you will improve your fitness and the function of your lungs, heart, and muscles.”Możesz biegać Ironmany i ćwiczyć 5x w tygodniu, ale jeżeli nie zmienisz stylu jedzenia, to nie schudniesz długoterminowo. Nie jest to oczywiście powód, żeby nie ćwiczyć. Ćwicząc nie schudniesz, ale poprawisz wydolność organizmu, funkcjonalność płuc, sercai mięśni.

In the case description, a person lost 13 kg after a six-week fast and then followed a one-week fast every few weeks; follow-up lasted three years.

„She followed a 6-week fast and then fasted for 1 week every few weeks. She lost 13 kg and saw a clear improvement: her arm and hip joints became fully functional; she could sit down, get into the bathtub, and climb stairs without difficulty, and she stopped using crutches. She is delighted to say that she rides her bicycle to church every Sunday! She stopped getting colds, and her heart pain also went away; she no longer gets tired, even when walking uphill. Three years of follow-up have now passed.”Zastosowała post 6-tygodniowy i następnie stosowała co parę tygodni 1 tydzień postu.

A review found that combining diet with physical activity usually reduces body weight more than diet or exercise alone, and that longer, supervised programs are more likely to produce lasting effects.

Aim of the study: This overview synthesized evidence from systematic reviews (SRs) of combined physical activity (PA) and diet interventions versus diet-only or PA-only approaches on obesity-related anthropometric, cardiometabolic, and physical fitness outcomes, and identified program features linked to better effects.

Results: Thirty-two SRs (19 meta-analyses) met the inclusion criteria. In adults, combined PA and diet interventions generally outperformed single-component comparisons in reducing weight, BMI, waist circumference, and fat mass, and in improving cardiorespiratory fitness. More favorable and sustained effects were most often reported in programs lasting ≥6–12 months, with frequent, structured contact and supervised exercise that included resistance training. In children and adolescents, face-to-face programs involving families produced the most consistent improvements in BMI/BMI-z, but the effects often diminished 6–12 months after the program ended if there was no maintenance. In older adults, combined programs reduce fat mass while preserving lean mass, strength, and function. Across different settings (including type 2 diabetes, workplaces, and digital delivery), combined interventions improved glucose control, insulin resistance, lipid levels, and inflammation; some benefits occurred even without additional weight loss.
