Sources: 15 · Article: 22 746 characters

Henryk Różański says cannabis and cannabinoids may help with sleep, pain, anxiety, inflammation and seizures.

  • Hubert Czerniak lists, among other conditions, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, asthma, cancer-related problems and respiratory complaints.
  • Henryk Różański also describes cannabis oil as helpful for digestive problems, coughs, muscle tension and neuralgia.
  • Historical uses also included urinary problems, rheumatism, coughs and wounds that were slow to heal.

Henryk Różański

CBD is described as a sleep aid and as anti-inflammatory, anti-epileptic, anticonvulsant and anti-anxiety.

„Cannabidiol (CBD) has sedative, anti-inflammatory, anti-epileptic, anticonvulsant and anti-anxiety effects. It has neuroprotective and muscle-relaxing effects. Extracts containing cannabinoids, but not the prohibited THC, are available commercially. They are most often dissolved in hemp oil.”Cannabidiol – CBD działa nasennie, przeciwzapalnie, przeciwpadaczkowo, przeciwdrgawkowo i przeciwlękowo. Wywiera działanie neuroprotekcyjne miorelaksujące. W handlu dostępne są ekstrakty zawierające kanabinoidy z wyłączeniem zakazanego THC. Są one najczęściej rozpuszczone w oleju konopnym.
Henryk Różański

Cannabinoids are listed as helpful for nausea during cancer treatment, weight loss, multiple sclerosis, glaucoma, nerve pain, Parkinson’s disease and tics.

„The medical use of cannabinoids is developing and becoming increasingly widespread: as an antiemetic during cancer radiotherapy and chemotherapy; to help patients gain weight during exhausting and debilitating illnesses; to improve motor function in multiple sclerosis; to lower intraocular pressure in glaucoma; and to relieve nerve pain.”Zastosowanie kanabinoidów w medycynie jest obecnie rozwojowe i coraz szersze: jako środek przeciwwymiotny (w trakcie radio- i chemioterapii onkologicznej), ułatwiający przyrost masy ciała w trakcie wyczerpujących i wyniszczających chorób, jako środek poprawiający czynności ruchowe przy stwardnieniu rozsianym, obniżający ciśnienie wewnątrzgałkowe przy jaskrze, jako lek uśmierzający ból w nerwobólach.
Henryk Różański

CBG is described as relaxing muscles, relieving pain and inflammatory bowel complaints; it is also said to possibly help with glaucoma.

„CBG has muscle-relaxing, pain-relieving and antidepressant effects. It strengthens the function of anandamide, a neurotransmitter that plays a role in increasing feelings of pleasure and motivation, regulating appetite and sleep, and easing pain. It has an anti-inflammatory effect on the intestines, so it is recommended for Crohn’s disease, irritable bowel syndrome and diverticulitis.”CBG oddziałuje myorelaksująco, przeciwbólowo i przeciwdepresyjnie. wzmacnia funkcję anandamidu – neuroprzekaźnika, który odgrywa rolę w zwiększaniu odczucia przyjemności i motywacji, regulowaniu apetytu i snu oraz łagodzeniu bólu. Działa przeciwzapalnie na jelita, stąd polecany jest w chorobie Leśniowskiego-Crohna, w zespole jelita drażliwego, przy zapaleniu uchyłków jelita grubego.
Hubert Czerniak

CBD oil is described as pain-relieving and antidepressant, and as improving appetite.

„CBD oil used in medicine contains mainly cannabidiol. It has pain-relieving and antidepressant properties and improves appetite. Taking as little as 10 or 20 drops of CBD oil replaces an antidepressant, a painkiller and a medicine that improves appetite. CBD oil is not toxic, whereas every pharmaceutical preparation has negative side effects.”Olej CBD używany w medycynie zawiera głównie kannabidiol. Ma on właściwości przeciwbólowe, przeciwdepresyjne i poprawiające apetyt.
Hubert Czerniak

Among the conditions for which Hubert Czerniak lists cannabis are Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and Tourette syndrome.

„While helping with one thing, it damages something else. Marijuana is a very good medicine (because we have to regard it as a medicine). Conditions that we can treat with Indian hemp include: Degenerative diseases of the central nervous system: Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and Tourette syndrome;”Pomagając w jednym, uszkadza coś drugiego. Marihuana jest bardzo dobrym lekiem (bo trzeba uznać ją za lek). Schorzenia, które możemy wyleczyć przy użyciu konopi indyjskich to: choroby degeneracyjne ośrodkowego układu nerwowego: choroba Alzheimera, Parkinsona, zespół Tourette’a;
Hubert Czerniak

Hubert Czerniak also lists epilepsy, post-traumatic stress disorder, autoimmune diseases, circulatory problems and cancer.

„Epilepsy, even when drug-resistant; Post-traumatic stress disorder; Autoimmune diseases: Hashimoto’s disease, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, type 1 diabetes and Graves’ disease; Diseases associated with circulatory failure — marijuana has a cardioprotective effect. Stimulation of the endocannabinoid system reduces peripheral vascular resistance and resistance in the small vessels, increases the heart’s stroke volume and slows the heart rate; Cancer — cannabis-derived preparations inhibit the development of blood vessels and cancer metastases; Adverse reactions to vaccination — CBD oil helps detoxify children after vaccination by removing aluminium and mercury compounds from the body.”padaczka, nawet lekooporna; zespół stresu pourazowego; choroby autoagresywne: Hashimoto, RZS, toczeń, cukrzyca typu 1, choroba Gravesa- Besedowa; choroby związane z niewydolnością krążeniową – marihuana działa kardioprotekcyjnie, pobudzenie układu EKAN powoduje zmniejszenie oporu obwodowego, zmniejszenie oporu w naczyniach kreski, zwiększenie objętości wyrzutowej serca i spowalnianie akcji serca; choroby nowotworowe – preparaty pochodnych konopi powodują zahamowanie rozwoju naczyń i przerzutów nowotworowych; niepożądane odczyny poszczepienne – olej CBD pomaga w detoksykacji dzieci po szczepionkach, eliminując związki aluminium i rtęci z organizmu.
Hubert Czerniak

Hubert Czerniak says CBD oil may help with asthma, respiratory catarrh and some skin conditions.

„It helps treat bronchial asthma, respiratory catarrh and other forms of neurodermatitis. Indian hemp also affects apoptosis. If cells in the body are damaged, cannabis preparations help destroy the damaged cells more quickly while inhibiting apoptosis in healthy cells.”Pomaga w leczeniu astmy oskrzelowej, nieżytów dróg oddechowych czy innych neurodermatoz. Konopie indyjskie wpływają także na apoptozę. Jeżeli w organizmie komórki są uszkodzone to preparaty konopne pomagają szybciej niszczyć uszkodzone komórki, jednocześnie hamując apoptozę w komórkach zdrowych.
Hubert Czerniak

Hubert Czerniak lists cannabis as a possible ingredient in painkillers, anti-inflammatory medicines, anti-anxiety medicines, antidepressants and antiemetics.

„If cells in the body are damaged, cannabis preparations help destroy the damaged cells more quickly while inhibiting apoptosis in healthy cells. Indian hemp can be used to make painkillers, anti-inflammatory medicines, anti-anxiety medicines, antidepressants, antiemetics, antipsychotics and antibiotics.”Jeżeli w organizmie komórki są uszkodzone to preparaty konopne pomagają szybciej niszczyć uszkodzone komórki, jednocześnie hamując apoptozę w komórkach zdrowych. Konopie indyjskie można wykorzystać do produkcji leków przeciwbólowych, przeciwzapalnych, przeciwlękowych, przeciwdepresyjnych, przeciwwymiotnych, antypsychotycznych i antybiotyków.

Henryk Różański says cannabis essential oil has anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving effects and may help with digestion, coughs, muscle tension and neuralgia.

„Cannabis essential oil has local and general anti-inflammatory effects, as well as pain-relieving effects. It regulates urine flow and prevents colic and bloating. It inhibits the growth of pathogenic fungi and bacteria. It relaxes the mind while also strengthening the body. It is recommended for digestive disorders, stress, excessive tension in skeletal muscles, runny nose, coughs, chest congestion, and urinary and biliary colic.”Olejek eteryczny konopny działa przeciwzapalnie miejscowo i ogólnie oraz przeciwbólowo. Reguluje przepływ moczu, zapobiega kolkom i wzdęciom. hamuje rozwój grzybów i bakterii chorobotwórczych. Rozluźnia psychicznie, a jednocześnie wzmacnia. Polecany jest przy zaburzeniach trawiennych, stresie, nadmiernym napięciu mięśni szkieletowych, katarze, kaszlu, zaflegmieniu płuc, kolce moczowej i żółciowej.
Henryk Różański

Descriptions of historical practices say cannabis was used, among other things, for dry coughs, earaches, gout, urinary tract infections and wounds that were slow to heal.

„Hieronymus Bock (Tragus, 1498–1554) used hemp seeds for dry coughs and the herb in poultices for gout. Pietro Andrea Mattioli (Matthiolus, 1501–1578) wrote that the juice of the herb relieved earache, recommended the oil for cirrhosis of the liver, and the decoction for urinary tract infections.”Hieronymus Bock – Tragus (1498-1554) stosował konopie siewne (nasiona) przy suchym kaszlu, a ziele do okładów przy podagrze (dnie moczanowej). Pietro Andrea Mattioli – Matthiolus (1501-1578) pisał, że sok z ziela usuwa ból ucha, a olej zalecał przy marskości wątroby, wywar z kolei przy przeziębieniu układu moczowego.
Henryk Różański

Historical recommendations also included inflammation and irritation of the urinary tract, rheumatic complaints, coughs, asthma and eye inflammation.

„Madaus’s publications list the following uses of hemp: irritation and inflammatory diseases of the genitourinary system, especially gonorrhoea with painful urination in its early stage and catarrh of the bladder, often without burning but with frequent pressure on the bladder; urethritis with a discharge of pus; kidney inflammation with heart problems; kidney stones; bladder spasms; painful urination with sudden urgency; albuminuria (protein in the urine); and an enlarged prostate. Pleurisy, pneumonia and pericarditis; sometimes recommended as an expectorant for a dry, hot cough (here, the seeds are boiled in milk and drunk warm), tuberculosis and asthma. For gout and rheumatic conditions, and for irritation of the urinary tract. Internally and externally for eye inflammation and clouding of the cornea.”W publikacjach Madausa znajdziemy następujące wskazania do używania konopi siewnej: przy podrażnieniach i chorobach zapalnych układu moczowo-płciowego, zwłaszcza na rzeżączkę z bolesnym oddawaniem moczu w pierwszym stadium i nieżytem pęcherza, często bez pieczenia, tylko przy częstym ucisku pęcherza, zapaleniu cewki moczowej z wypływem ropy, przy zapaleniu nerek z problemami z sercem, kamicy nerkowej, skurczach pęcherza, bolesnym oddawaniu moczu z nagłym parciem, albuminurii (białkomoczu) i przerostem prostaty.

Andrzej Frydrychowski describes phytocannabinoids as compounds that bind to the same receptors as cannabinoids produced by the body and remain active for longer.

„They contain substances whose structure is similar to that of the cannabinoids produced by our bodies. Unlike our own cannabinoids, they are called phytocannabinoids. They bind to the same receptors, reach much higher concentrations at specific receptors in the body and remain there for longer.”Mają one substancje podobne w swojej strukturze do kannabinoidów produkowanych przez nasz organizm.
Andrzej Frydrychowski

Andrzej Frydrychowski says the endocannabinoid system helps regulate, among other things, sleep, mood, appetite, digestion and body temperature.

„This system plays a major role in maintaining the stability of the body’s internal environment, known as homeostasis. It helps regulate basic life functions such as appetite, sleep, mood, cognitive processes, digestion, metabolism, cardiovascular regulation and body temperature.”Układ ten odgrywa olbrzymią rolę w utrzymaniu stałości środowiska wewnętrznego tzw. homeostazie organizmu, bierze udział w regulacji podstawowych funkcji życiowych np. łaknienia, snu, nastroju, procesów poznawczych, trawienia, metabolizmu, regulacji sercowo-naczyniowych, temperatury ciała itd.
Andrzej Frydrychowski

Andrzej Frydrychowski writes that matching the dose and use of cannabis to a patient requires an individual approach.

„The dose and method of use must be tailored to each patient. This requires knowledge, experience and a great deal of time devoted to the patient. Academic medicine does not offer this, and is not itself fully interested in the subject of cannabis.”Dawka i sposób stosowania muszą być dobrane indywidualnie dla każdego pacjenta i dlatego wymaga to wiedzy, doświadczenia i poświęcenia dużo czasu pacjentowi. A tego medycyna akademicka nie oferuje, jak również sama nie do końca jest zainteresowana tematyką konopi.

A meta-analysis found that non-inhaled medical cannabis may slightly reduce chronic pain.

Aim of the study: To determine the benefits and harms of medical cannabis and cannabinoids for chronic pain.

Results: A total of 32 trials with 5174 adult patients were included, 29 of which compared medical cannabis or cannabinoids with placebo. Medical cannabis was administered orally (n=30) or topically (n=2). Clinical populations included chronic non-cancer pain (n=28) and cancer related pain (n=4). Length of follow-up ranged from 1 to 5.5 months. Compared with placebo, non-inhaled medical cannabis probably results in a small increase in the proportion of patients experiencing at least the minimally important difference (MID) of 1 cm (on a 10 cm visual analogue scale (VAS)) in pain relief (modelled risk difference (RD) of 10% (95% confidence interval 5% to 15%), based on a weighted mean difference (WMD) of -0.50 cm (95% CI -0.75 to -0.25 cm, moderate certainty)).

A review found that cannabinoids were more likely than placebo to completely relieve nausea and vomiting associated with chemotherapy.

Aim of the study: To conduct a systematic review of the benefits and adverse events (AEs) of cannabinoids.

Results: A total of 79 trials (6462 participants) were included; 4 were judged at low risk of bias. Most trials showed improvement in symptoms associated with cannabinoids but these associations did not reach statistical significance in all trials. Compared with placebo, cannabinoids were associated with a greater average number of patients showing a complete nausea and vomiting response (47% vs 20%; odds ratio [OR], 3.82 [95% CI, 1.55-9.42]; 3 trials), reduction in pain (37% vs 31%; OR, 1.41 [95% CI, 0.99-2.00]; 8 trials), a greater average reduction in numerical rating scale pain assessment (on a 0-10-point scale; weighted mean difference [WMD], -0.46 [95% CI, -0.80 to -0.11]; 6 trials), and average reduction in the Ashworth spasticity scale (WMD, -0.36 [95% CI, -0.69 to -0.05]; 7 trials). There was an increased risk of short-term AEs with cannabinoids, including serious AEs.

The review indicated that evidence supports the use of cannabinoids for pain, seizure disorders, appetite stimulation, muscle spasticity, and nausea and vomiting.

Aim of the study: There is a growing interest in the use of cannabis (and its extracts), as well as CBD oil (hemp extracts containing cannabidiol), for therapeutic purposes. While there is reason to believe that cannabinoids may be efficacious for a number of different diseases and syndromes, there exist limited objective data supporting the use of crude materials (CBD oil, cannabis extracts, and/or cannabis itself).

The review described possible improvement in several autism symptoms, including hyperactivity, anxiety, sleep problems and irritability.

Aim of the study: Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by persistent deficits in social communication and social interaction, associated with the presence of restricted and repetitive patterns of behavior, interests, or activities. Cannabis has been used to alleviate symptoms associated with ASD.

Results: Some studies showed that cannabis products reduced the number and/or intensity of different symptoms, including hyperactivity, attacks of self-mutilation and anger, sleep problems, anxiety, restlessness, psychomotor agitation, irritability, aggressiveness perseverance, and depression. Moreover, they found an improvement in cognition, sensory sensitivity, attention, social interaction, and language. The most common adverse effects were sleep disorders, restlessness, nervousness and change in appetite. Cannabis and cannabinoids may have promising effects in the treatment of symptoms related to ASD, and can be used as a therapeutic alternative in the relief of those symptoms. However, randomized, blind, placebo-controlled clinical trials are necessary to clarify findings on the effects of cannabis and its cannabinoids in individuals with ASD.

A review of animal studies indicated that cannabinoids may reduce pain signals and pain-related behaviors.

Aim of the study: This narrative review represents an output from the International Association for the Study of Pain's global task force on the use of cannabis, cannabinoids, and cannabis-based medicines for pain management, informed by our companion systematic review and meta-analysis of preclinical studies in this area.

Results: Our aims in this review are (1) to describe the value of studying cannabinoids and endogenous cannabinoid (endocannabinoid) system modulators in preclinical/animal models of pain; (2) to discuss both pain-related efficacy and additional pain-relevant effects (adverse and beneficial) of cannabinoids and endocannabinoid system modulators as they pertain to animal models of pathological or injury-related persistent pain; and (3) to identify important directions for future research. In service of these goals, this review (1) provides an overview of the endocannabinoid system and the pharmacology of cannabinoids and endocannabinoid system modulators, with specific relevance to animal models of pathological or injury-related persistent pain; (2) describes pharmacokinetics of cannabinoids in rodents and humans; and (3) highlights differences and discrepancies between preclinical and clinical studies in this area.

The review indicated that cannabis-based medicines may help with chronic pain.

Aim of the study: Cannabinoids are chemicals derived naturally from the cannabis plant or are synthetically manufactured. They interact directly with cannabinoid receptors or share chemical similarity with endocannabinoids (or both).

Results: In the USA, 33 states have now legalised prescription-based medical cannabis for several medical conditions; Canada has had legislation since 2001 authorising medical use. The European Union (EU) recently declared all EU citizens must have access to medical cannabis over the next 4 years. The integration into medicine and routine clinical use of cannabis is fraught with information gaps, regulatory issues and scarcity of research. Each patient should have a comprehensive assessment and risk-benefit discussion before any cannabis-based intervention to avoid possible complications such as hallucinations, psychosis and potential cardiac harm.

The review indicates that cannabis products may relieve pain and reduce chronic inflammation, but may also carry significant risks.

Aim of the study: Cannabis, as a natural medicinal remedy, has long been used for palliative treatment to alleviate the side effects caused by diseases. Cannabis-based products isolated from plant extracts exhibit potent immunoregulatory properties, reducing chronic inflammatory processes and providing much needed pain relief.

Results: However, we discuss the fact that cannabis use may promote the progression of a range of malignancies, interfere with anti-cancer immunotherapy, or increase susceptibility to viral infections and transmission. Most cannabis preparations or isolated active components cause an overall potent immunosuppressive impact among users, posing a considerable hazard to patients with suppressed or compromised immune systems. In this review, current knowledge and perceptions of cannabis or cannabinoids and their impact on various immune-system components will be discussed as the "two sides of the same coin" or "double-edged sword", referring to something that can have both favorable and unfavorable consequences. We propose that much is still unknown about adverse reactions to its use, and its integration with medical treatment should be conducted cautiously with consideration of the individual patient, effector cells, microenvironment, and the immune system.

The review suggests that cannabis and cannabinoids may help relieve cancer symptoms or the effects of its treatment, although the benefits have not been convincingly confirmed.

Aim of the study: As medical cannabis becomes legal in more states, cancer patients are increasingly interested in the potential utility of the ancient botanical in their treatment regimen. Although eager to discuss cannabis use with their oncologist, patients often find that their provider reports that they do not have adequate information to be helpful.

Results: Despite preclinical evidence and social media claims, the utility of cannabis, cannabinoids or cannabis-based medicines in the treatment of cancer remains to be convincingly demonstrated. With an acceptable safety profile, cannabis and its congeners may be useful in managing symptoms related to cancer or its treatment. Further clinical trials should be conducted to evaluate whether the preclinical antitumor effects translate into benefit for cancer patients. Oncologists should familiarize themselves with the available database to be able to better advise their patients on the potential uses of this complementary botanical therapy.
