Taking 1–2 tablespoons of oil by mouth each day is supposed to lower cholesterol and slow the progression of atherosclerosis.

„Taken by mouth in a dose of 1–2 tablespoons a day, it lowers blood cholesterol and slows the progression of atherosclerosis. It helps treat inflammation of the uterine appendages, drug poisoning, and vaginal discharge. Flaxseed oil eases the symptoms of an enlarged prostate. It is best to buy non-debittered flaxseed oil, although it is hard to find (at markets and small home-based oil presses), because this has the greatest medicinal value.”Podawany doustnie w dawce 1-2 łyżek dziennie obniża poziom cholesterolu we krwi i hamuje postęp miażdżycy. Pomocny w leczeniu zapalenia przydatków, zatruć polekowych i upławów. Olej lniany łagodzi objawy przerostu gruczołu krokowego. Najlepiej kupować olej lniany nieodgoryczony, taki jednak jest trudno dostępny (targowiska, małe olejarnie przydomowe), bowiem ten ma największą wartość leczniczą.

When applied to the skin, the oil is supposed to speed wound healing and reduce inflammation.

„Applied to the skin, it speeds wound healing and reduces inflammation. Flaxseed oil is useful for treating burns, frostbite, and pressure sores, especially when mixed with sea buckthorn oil and/or cod-liver oil. Taken by mouth in a dose of 1–2 tablespoons a day, it lowers blood cholesterol and slows the progression of atherosclerosis.”Zastosowany na skórę przyśpiesza gojenie ran i działa przeciwzapalnie.Olej lniany jest przydatny w leczeniu oparzeń, odmrożeń, odleżyn, szczególnie po zmieszaniu z olejem rokitnikowym i (lub) tranem. Podawany doustnie w dawce 1-2 łyżek dziennie obniża poziom cholesterolu we krwi i hamuje postęp miażdżycy.

Flaxseed oil is said to improve hair condition, promote hair and nail growth, and benefit acne-prone skin.

„It reduces the effects of androgens on hair, thereby improving its condition and preventing hair loss. It promotes hair and nail growth while reducing sebum production and the formation of blackheads. It prevents excessive keratinization of the epidermis, which is why it benefits acne-prone skin.”Zmniejsza oddziaływanie androgenów na włosy, przez co poprawia ich stan i zapobiega łysieniu. Pobudza wzrost włosów i paznokci, zmniejsza równocześnie wydzielanie łoju i powstawanie zaskórników. Przeciwdziała nadmiernemu rogowaceniu naskórka, dlatego korzystnie wpływa na skórę trądzikową.
Henryk Różański

Mechanically cold-pressed oils were considered best for food and medicinal uses.

„I need hardly say that oils obtained mechanically by cold pressing are best for food and medicinal uses. Depending on how it is produced and its composition, flaxseed oil can be yellow or brown, with a slightly bitter taste and a distinctive smell. The more bitter it is, the greater its medicinal value.”Nie muszę mówić, że do celów spożywczych i leczniczych najlepsze są oleje uzyskiwane mechanicznie, na zimno. Olej lniany, zależnie od metody uzyskiwania i składu ma barwę żółta lub brunatną, smak gorzkawy, zapach specyficzny. Im bardziej gorzki tym bardziej cenny leczniczo.

Non-debittered flaxseed oil has the greatest medicinal value, but it is hard to find.

„It is best to buy non-debittered flaxseed oil, although it is hard to find (at markets and small home-based oil presses), because this has the greatest medicinal value. To treat eczema and wounds that are slow to heal, mix it with cod-liver oil in a 1:1 ratio. Oils rich in unsaturated fatty acids do not keep well.”Najlepiej kupować olej lniany nieodgoryczony, taki jednak jest trudno dostępny (targowiska, małe olejarnie przydomowe), bowiem ten ma największą wartość leczniczą. Do leczenia wyprysków i trudno gojących sie ran mieszać z tranem w proporcji 1:1. Oleje bogate w nienasycone kwasy tłuszczowe są nietrwałe.

Flaxseed oil contains 42.5–45.2% linolenic acid, and less commonly up to 50%.

„It contains: oleic acid, 10–13.1%, less commonly up to 18%; linoleic acid, 27–30%; palmitic and stearic acids, 7.5–8%; and linolenic acid, 42.5–45.2%, less commonly up to 50%. Flaxseed oil is rich in essential unsaturated fatty acids, known as vitamin F. Raw flaxseed oil contains about 0.5–1.5% unsaponifiable substances, water, proteins, mucilage (plant slime), and phosphatides.”Zawiera: kwas oleinowy 10-13,1%, rzadziej do 18%, kwas linolowy 27-30%, kwas palmitynowy i stearynowy 7,5-8%, kwas linolenowy 42,5-45,2%, rzadziej do 50%. Olej lniany jest bogaty w niezbędne nienasycone kwasy tłuszczowe, zwane witaminą F. Olej lniany surowy posiada około 0,5-1,5% składników niezmydlających się, wodę, białka, śluzy (szlam roślinny) i fosfatydy.
Henryk Różański

Flaxseed oil is listed as one of the richer sources of vitamin F.

„The richest sources of vitamin F are oils from fish and marine mammals, wheat germ oil, evening primrose oil, borage oil, black seed oil, blackcurrant seed oil, sea buckthorn oil, flaxseed oil, grapeseed oil, nut oils, and others. Herbert Mclean Evans Embryologist, anatomist.”Najbogatszym źródłem witaminy F są oleje z ryb i ssaków morskich, olej z kiełków pszenicy, olej wiesiołkowy, olej ogórecznikowy, olej czarnuszkowy, olej z pestek porzeczki, olej rokitnikowy, olej lniany, olej winogronowy, oleje z orzechów i in. Herbert Mclean Evans Embriolog, anatom.

Purified and clarified flaxseed oil is said not to have the same medicinal effect as traditionally pressed oil that is cloudy and has sediment.

„Highly centrifuged, purified, clarified flaxseed oil that is not cold-pressed will never have the same medicinal effect as distinctively scented, non-debittered, cloudy flaxseed oil with sediment, pressed traditionally (I am sure many people would never buy such oil because of its taste, appearance, and smell, and would not recognize it as flaxseed oil, since the market is flooded with flaxseed oils of low nutritional and medicinal value).”Również olej lniany wybitnie odwirowany, oczyszczony, wyklarowany, nie tłoczony na zimno nigdy nie będzie działał leczniczo tak jak olej lniany specyficznie pachnący, nieodgoryczony, mętny, z osadem, tłoczony tradycyjnie (jestem pewny, że wielu ludzi w życiu by nie kupiło takiego oleju ze względu na smak, wygląd i zapach i nie zidentyfikowało by takiego oleju jako lnianego, bo rynek jest zalany olejami lnianymi o niskiej wartości odżywczej i leczniczej).
Henryk Różański

Flaxseed oil should be stored in a dark, cool place because oils rich in unsaturated fatty acids do not keep well.

„It is best to buy non-debittered flaxseed oil, although it is hard to find (at markets and small home-based oil presses), because this has the greatest medicinal value. In healthy adults, taking ALA was associated with increased blood flow through the skin after exposure to cold.

Aim of the study: Previous studies have suggested that α-linolenic acid (ALA) improves vascular function and alleviates allergic symptoms. However, its effects on cold sensitivity, associated with peripheral vascular function, remain poorly understood. Furthermore, no studies have reported ALA's efficacy alone in healthy humans regarding vascular endothelial function or allergic symptoms.

Results: Skin blood flow and skin surface temperature showed significantly higher values or trends toward higher values in ALA groups during the early measurement period following cold exposure (p = 0.014 and 0.061, for skin surface temperature of the low- and high-dose groups, respectively). Overall flow-mediated dilation (FMD) analysis showed no significant differences between ALA groups (p = 0.128 and p = 0.412, for the low- and high-dose groups, respectively); however, subgroup analysis of subjects with pre-intervention values < 6% showed significant improvement (p = 0.038 and p = 0.043). No group differences were observed in allergy symptoms. Serum ALA concentrations were significantly higher in both ALA groups compared to the control group (p < 0.001). The high-dose group showed significantly higher serum EPA and DPA concentrations (p = 0.013 and p = 0.035, respectively).

A review suggests that flaxseed oil may support heart health and ease some skin problems.

Aim of the study: Linseed is an ancient crop used for diverse purposes since the beginning of civilization. In recent times, linseed has emerged as a superfood due to its high content of health-promoting omega-3 fatty acids and other bioactive compounds.

Results: However, focus on the bioactive compounds present in linseed oil and their health effects are also presented. Linseed cultivation, pre- and post-harvest processing aspects are covered including climatic, edaphic, agronomic factors, type of cultivar and storage conditions etc, which impact the overall oil yield and its nutritional quality. Various emerging applications of linseed oil in functional food, nutraceutical, pharmaceutical, and cosmeceutical preparations were also presented in detail. Further, recommendations were made on linseed oil research in the field of genetics, breeding germplasm resources and genome editing for exploring its full applications as a nutrition and health product.

The review describes the protective properties of flaxseed for the heart, attributing them to antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects.

Aim of the study: Linum usitatissimum L. (flaxseed), an herbaceous plant from the Linaceae family, possesses antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, making it effective in treating various health conditions. Although numerous studies have explored the benefits of flaxseed, a comprehensive review of its antioxidative and anti-inflammatory effects is lacking. Such a review would provide a clearer perspective on its medical applications.

Results: Numerous studies indicate that flaxseed and its derivatives reduce inflammatory cytokine levels. Additionally, they exhibit antihyperlipidemic, antihyperglycemic, and cardioprotective properties due to their antioxidative and anti-inflammatory effects. Furthermore, animal and clinical studies suggest that flaxseed extract reduces body fat storage and insulin resistance while offering various therapeutic benefits. In conclusion, various studies demonstrate the significant potential of flaxseed for prevention and management of diseases. Its efficacy is likely attributable to its antioxidative and anti-inflammatory properties. However, further research is required to fully understand its therapeutic potential.

„But remember, Sinclair was right - it's not just that we all eat too much carbs, we also eat too little fat and oil. Way too little. In that Lancet letter he said "there is an enormous increase in permeability of the skin in EFA (Essential Fatty Acid) deficiency" - and capillary, and blood-brain barrier, obviously. We leak essentials out, and toxins in, triggering inflammation that we have leaked the resources to deal with.”But remember, Sinclair was right - it's not just that we all eat too much carbs, we also eat too little fat and oil.
