Ceramic implants instead of titanium ones — healthier or just more expensive?

Sources: 9 · Article: 14 482 characters

Igor Dogocki describes ceramic as a material that can work well with body tissues and reduce the risk of gum inflammation.

  • Igor Dogocki also presents it as a metal-free option for people with allergies or discomfort related to metal.
  • However, Igor Dogocki points out that the presence of metal does not automatically mean there is a problem and does not justify replacement without a medical reason.
  • No prices are provided, so it is not possible to assess whether ceramic implants are more expensive than titanium ones.

Igor Dogocki

Ceramic is described as non-toxic and well tolerated by the body, and Igor Dogocki claims that it carries no risk of allergy.

„More and more of our patients appreciate the benefits of ceramic implants and the quality of life they have gained thanks to them: Unlike other materials, ceramic is non-toxic and highly biocompatible. With ceramic, there is no risk of developing an allergy and therefore placing a burden on the immune system.”Coraz więcej naszych pacjentów docenia zalety ceramicznych implantów i jakość życia, jaką dzięki nim zyskali: W przeciwieństwie do innych materiałów, ceramika jest nietoksyczna i wysoce biokompatybilna. Dzięki ceramice nie ma ryzyka rozwinięcia alergii i tym samym obciążenia układu odpornościowego.
Igor Dogocki

Igor Dogocki links the better connection between ceramic and the gums to a lower risk of inflammation and implant loss.

„The optimal compatibility of ceramic with tissues allows for a better and highly aesthetic connection with the gums. In the long term, this reduces the risk of gum inflammation and the possibility of losing the implant as a result. Fewer bacteria (dental plaque, biofilm) naturally accumulate on ceramic implants, which also reduces the risk of gum inflammation.”Optymalna kompatybilność ceramiki z tkankami umożliwia lepsze i wysoce estetyczne połączenie z dziąsłem.

Igor Dogocki claims that fewer bacteria accumulate on ceramic implants, which may reduce the risk of gum inflammation.

„Fewer bacteria (dental plaque, biofilm) naturally accumulate on ceramic implants, which also reduces the risk of gum inflammation. Ceramic is proven and durable. It has been used in medicine (hip joints) and dentistry for 25 years (ceramic implants).”Na ceramicznych implantach naturalnie osadza się mniej bakterii(płytki nazębnej, biofilmu), co również zmniejsza ryzyko zapalenia dziąseł. Ceramika jest sprawdzona i trwała. Stosowana w medycynie(stawy biodrowe) i stomatologii od 25 lat ( implanty ceramiczne).

Zirconium oxide implants are described as metal-free, biocompatible, and aesthetic.

„Zirconium oxide combines ideal biocompatibility with beautiful aesthetics. Unlike gray titanium, it contains no metals and has a highly aesthetic color. Dead teeth overloaded with bacteria can contribute to chronic diseases, but until now their removal has involved complications such as loss of bone and gums, aesthetics, comfort, time, money, and self-confidence.”Tlenek cyrkonu łączy w sobie idealną bio-kompatybilność z piękną estetyką. W przeciwieństwie do szarego tytanu nie zawiera metali i mają wysoce estetyczny kolor. Martwe, przesycone bakteriami zęby mogą przyczynić się do powstania chorób przewlekłych, ale do teraz usunięcie ich miało swoje powikłania w postaci utraty kości i dziąseł, estetyki, komfortu , czasu, pieniędzy i pewność siebie.
Igor Dogocki

Igor Dogocki recommends ceramic implants to people with a titanium allergy or discomfort related to metal in the body.

„Whether you suffer from a metal allergy — to titanium — or general discomfort related to metal in the body, we offer a metal-free solution: highly aesthetic white ceramic implants made from high-quality, biocompatible zirconium oxide.”Niezależnie od tego, czy cierpisz na alergię na metale – tytan, czy też na ogólny dyskomfort związany z metalem w ciele, proponujemy rozwiązanie wolne od metali – wysoce estetyczne implanty z białej ceramiki wykonane z wysokiej jakości biozgodnego tlenku cyrkonu.

Igor Dogocki points out that for most people, metal in the mouth does not automatically mean there is a problem, although some may experience reactions or allergies.

„For most patients, this does not automatically mean there is a problem. However, some people may experience local reactions, hypersensitivity, an unpleasant metallic taste, irritation of the oral mucosa, or a confirmed allergy to certain alloy components. That is why at Bio Clinic® we do not start from the assumption that “all metal must be removed.””Dla większości pacjentów nie oznacza to automatycznie problemu.
Igor Dogocki

Igor Dogocki describes assessing materials in the mouth before treatment and opposes removing them without a medical reason.

„Before starting treatment, we assess existing fillings, crowns, bridges, implants, and other items in the mouth. We do not remove materials without a medical reason just because they contain metal.”Przed rozpoczęciem leczenia analizujemy istniejące wypełnienia, korony, mosty, implanty i inne elementy znajdujące się w jamie ustnej. Nie usuwamy materiałów bez wskazania tylko dlatego, że zawierają metal.
Igor Dogocki

Igor Dogocki attributes mechanical and aesthetic properties and high biocompatibility to zirconium oxide.

„Where clinically justified, we use metal-free solutions, including: ceramic-based restorations, ceramic implants. Zirconium oxide is one of the materials widely used in modern metal-free dentistry because of its mechanical properties, aesthetics, and high biocompatibility.”Tam, gdzie jest to klinicznie uzasadnione, stosujemy rozwiązania bezmetalowe, m.in.: odbudowy na bazie ceramiki, implanty ceramiczne. Tlenek cyrkonu jest jednym z materiałów szeroko wykorzystywanych we współczesnej stomatologii bezmetalowej ze względu na jego właściwości mechaniczne, estetykę i wysoką biokompatybilność.

Ceramic can provide an appearance closer to that of a natural tooth, and the choice of material is especially important in cases of confirmed allergies or sensitivity to metals.

„Ceramic makes it possible to achieve a color, translucency, and structure much closer to a natural tooth than traditional metal solutions. There are also patients with confirmed allergies or sensitivity to certain metals, for whom the choice of dental materials is particularly important.”Ceramika pozwala uzyskać kolor, przezierność i strukturę znacznie bardziej zbliżoną do naturalnego zęba niż tradycyjne rozwiązania metalowe. Są również pacjenci z potwierdzonymi alergiami lub nadwrażliwością na określone metale, dla których dobór materiałów stomatologicznych ma szczególne znaczenie.
Igor Dogocki

Igor Dogocki attributes the ability to cause certain allergies to metals, including titanium.

„Immunological effects are very dangerous because they can cause different types of allergies (as has been proven, for example, with nickel and titanium), inflammation, and autoimmune diseases. Electrical component: Irritating microcurrents that arise in the presence of saliva and act through microwave and electromagnetic radiation, for example.”Skutki immunologiczne Są bardzo niebezpieczne, ponieważ mogą wywoływać różne typy alergii (jak udowodniono w przypadku np. Niklu, tytanu) , stany zapalne i choroby autoimmunologiczne. Komponent elektryczny Powstające w obecności śliny drażniące tkanki mikroprądy oraz poprzez działanie promieniowania mikrofalowego, elektromagnetycznego np.

The described protocol involves removing all metals from the mouth and replacing them with, among other things, ceramic implants.

„Metals and heavy metals themselves can cause chronic illness, which may lead to all of the following symptoms: Impaired cognitive function Anxiety and/or depression Metallic taste in the mouth Autoimmune diseases Peripheral neuropathy (numbness and tingling in the feet and hands) For the reasons listed above, the treatment protocol at BIO CLINIC Swiss Concept involves removing all metals from the mouth and replacing them with biocompatible, non-toxic, individually selected restorations in the form of appropriate fillings, inlays, implants, and ceramic crowns.”Same metale i metale ciężkie mogą wywołać przewlekłą chorobę, która może powodować wszystkie następujące objawy: Upośledzenie funkcji poznawczych Lęk i / lub depresja Metaliczny posmak w ustach Choroby autoimmunologiczne Neuropatia obwodowa (drętwienie i mrowienie stóp i dłoni) Z powodów wymienionych powyżej, protokół leczenia w BIO CLINIC Swiss Concept zakłada usunięcie wszystkich metali z jamy ustnej oraz zastąpienie ich bio kompatybilnymi nie toksycznymi indywidualnie dobranymi odbudowami w postacie odpowiednich wypełnień, nakładów oraz implantów i koron ceramicznych.

The review rated the biocompatibility and ability of zirconia implants to integrate with bone as good, and noted high clinical success rates.

Aim of the study: Titanium currently has a well-established position as the gold standard for manufacturing dental implants; however, it is not free of flaws. Mentions of possible soft-tissue discoloration, corrosion, and possible allergic reactions have led to the development of zirconia dental implants.

Results: Zirconia's biocompatibility and ability to osseointegrate appear unquestionably good. Although some of its mechanical properties are, in fact, inferior to those of titanium, the benefits seem to outweigh the drawbacks. Zirconia implants show very good success rates in clinical research. This is partly due to available surface treatment methods, including changes to nanotopography, which improve wettability, bone-to-implant contact, and osseointegration in general.

Short-term studies of contemporary zirconia implants have shown promising results comparable to those of titanium implants.

Aim of the study: A multitude of biomaterials have been used for the production of implants through the years. Titanium or titanium alloy have been regarded as the 'gold standard' for years.

Results: Short-term study results for contemporary zirconia implants are promising and comparable to those for titanium implants. Nevertheless, the material is relatively brittle and susceptible to surface defects. However, no long-term clinical results exist, and possible complications are unknown. Long-term clinical research is needed before the routine use of zirconia implants can be endorsed.

The review found no clear superiority of zirconia in most of the features assessed, but pointed to an aesthetic advantage.

Aim of the study: The main goal of this review is to provide an in-depth description of published work on the application of zirconia for dental implants and restorations on titanium implants, with an emphasis on clinical studies from the past dozen years with at least 1-year follow-up.

Results: No clear superiority has been documented for zirconia implants compared with titanium implants in biocompatibility, osteoconductivity, physical properties, or allergenicity, despite an aesthetic benefit. Although short-term studies have been promising, larger multicenter, longitudinal, and randomized clinical trials with success data are needed to validate zirconia as a viable alternative to titanium implants and their design. Zirconia abutments with a titanium base have shown a high survival rate and no difference from metal. Bilayered zirconia ceramic restorations are a valid treatment alternative to metal-ceramic implant restorations for single crowns, with similar biological complications and improved aesthetics. Monolithic zirconia restorations show promise for addressing chipping in bilayered ceramic restorations, but longer-term studies are needed, and their aesthetics need to be improved.

In a two-year study, no zirconia implants were lost or fractured, and bone loss was small.

Aim of the study: Data on market-available two-piece zirconia (ZrO₂) dental implants are limited. Therefore, the aim of this retrospective study was to evaluate the clinical performance of a commercially available ZrO₂ implant system over a 24-month period.

Results: During the observation period, no implant losses or implant fractures occurred. The mean MBL was 0.24 ± 0.58 mm at 6 months, 0.18 ± 0.62 mm at 12 months, and 0.20 ± 0.66 mm at 24 months. These values were statistically within the range of random variation. MBL differed between the maxilla and mandible, but not significantly. Probing depths increased significantly over time but did not exceed 2.78 ± 0.26 mm. Mean bleeding-on-probing values decreased continuously from 9.1 ± 13.7% at baseline to 1.1 ± 4.3% after 24 months, with significant differences between baseline and 24 months, as well as between 6 and 24 months (p = 0.002 and p = 0.003, respectively). Over 24 months, two-piece ZrO₂ implants showed a 100% survival rate with no observed fractures. MBL was reduced, especially at augmented sites. The data presented support the short-term suitability of this implant system for single-unit restorations.

Under laboratory conditions, the ceramic tested was compatible with cells and blood, and the coating did not interfere with osteogenic differentiation.

Aim of the study: Optimized surface properties are a pivotal factor for dental ceramic implants and overall implant success. After grit-blasting and spray-coating Aluminum Toughened Zirconia (ATZ) ceramic samples with a glass solder, the biological cell response was examined and compared to uncoated and solely grit-blasted samples of the same ceramic.

Results: No toxic effects were observed for either coated or uncoated ATZ samples in direct or indirect tests, as assessed by live/dead staining. Differentiation and viability assays with HDPCs and L929 mouse fibroblasts showed no toxicity, and osteogenic differentiation was not impaired by the coating. Hemocompatibility testing with human whole blood revealed similar results for coated and uncoated ceramic specimens, with no hemolysis or adverse effects on standard hematological parameters. The glass solder coating was cytocompatible and hemocompatible under the tested in vitro conditions and did not impede osteogenic differentiation. These findings indicate that it can serve as a suitable substrate for the proliferation and spreading of L929 fibroblasts and HDPCs, with potential benefits for improving dental ceramic implant surfaces.
