Sinus problems for years—how can you break the cycle without antibiotics?

Sources: 6 · Article: 15 836 characters

Igor Dogocki suggests saline nasal rinses, inhalations, drinking warm fluids, and humidifying the air to help with sinus problems.

  • Igor Dogocki also mentions dietary changes, warm compresses, and massage, but notes that it is worth looking for the cause of the problem.
  • Jerzy Jaśkowski reminds readers that a headache is not always caused by the sinuses and recommends establishing a diagnosis first.
  • Igor Dogocki warns that liquorice may be a problem for people with high blood pressure, and that bromelain can affect some antibiotics and thin the blood.

Rinsing the nose with saline 2–3 times a day is said to help remove excess mucus.

„During treatment, it is recommended to clear excess mucus from the sinuses by rinsing them 2–3 times a day, for example using a Neti pot for sinus irrigation. To use it, lean over the sink with your head tilted at about a 45-degree angle, place the spout in one nostril, and gently pour in a saline solution.”W trakcie leczenia zalecane jest oczyszczanie zatok z nadmiaru śluzu poprzez 2-3 x dziennie płukanie zatok np. za pomocą dzbanka Neti służący do irygacji zatok. Używa się go przechylając głowę nad zlewem pod kątem około 45 stopni, umieszczamy dzióbek najpierw w jednej dziurce nosa i delikatnie wlewamy do niej roztwór soli fizjologicznej.

Igor Dogocki lists daily saline inhalations, drinking warm fluids, and humidifying the air as ways to bring relief.

„The following may also bring relief from sinusitis: daily morning and evening inhalations with saline or sea salt. Adults can do a morning inhalation by breathing in the vapour from coarse dry salt heated in a pan and mixed with a few drops of eucalyptus, thyme, and oregano oils.”Ponadto ulgę w zapaleniu zatok będą przynosiły: codzienne poranne i wieczorne inhalacje z soli fizjologicznej lub soli morskiej. Poranną inhalację dla dorosłych można wykonać wdychając opary rozgrzanej na patelni suchej gruboziarnistej soli wymieszanej z kilkoma kroplami olejków : eukaliptusowego, tymiankowego i oregano.

Igor Dogocki recommends drinking plenty of warm water and the other listed fluids to thin the mucus.

„The priority is to thin the mucus, and hydration affects how runny it is. Drink plenty of warm water, alkalising broth made from cooked vegetables, and tea made with liquorice (caution: high blood pressure), rosehip, mint, elderberries, wild pansy, and mint, as well as nourishing broths.”priorytetem jest rozrzedzenie śluzu, a na jego płynność wpływa nawodnienie organizmu – należy pić dużo ciepłej wody, odkwaszających wywarów z gotowanych warzyw, herbaty z lukrecji ( uwaga nadciśnienie), dzikiej róży, mięty, owoców czarnego bzu, ziela fiołka trójbarwnego, mięty i wzmacniających bulionów.

Igor Dogocki lists warm compresses on the sinuses, acupuncture, massage, and reflexology as supportive approaches.

„Acupuncture may help. Massage around the sinus openings and reflexology may help. Another way to support recovery is to eat appropriately, with the aim of reducing mucus production or making it easier to clear. Avoid foods that produce mucus, such as milk, dairy products, sugar, and white flour.”wspomagająco działa akupunktura masaże ujścia zatok, refleksoterapia kolejną możliwością wsparcia w zdrowieniu jest odpowiednie żywienie mające na celu zmniejszenie wydzielania śluzu lub ułatwiające jego usuwanie. Igor Dogocki says that warm salt baths, humidifying the air, and sleeping in a more upright position may support breathing and mucus drainage.

„Salt baths may help (for example, a 10-minute bath with 1/2 cup of magnesium salt and 5 drops of thyme oil), as may humidifying the air. Remember to drink water before and after salt-and-thyme baths. At night, rub aromatic balms (eucalyptus, oregano, mint, lemon, rosemary) on the chest to improve breathing, and sleep in a more upright position to help mucus drain.”dobrze wpływają kąpiele z solą ( np. 10 minutowa kąpiel z 1/2 szklanki soli magnezowej i 5 kroplami olejku z tymianku) oraz nawilżanie powietrza. Przed i po kąpielach solno- tymiankowych pamiętajmy, aby pić wodę. smarowanie na noc klatki piersiowej aromatycznymi balsamami (eukaliptus, oregano, mięta, cytryna, rozmaryn) aby usprawnić oddychanie oraz spanie w pozycji bardziej pionowej co ułatwi spływanie śluzu.
Igor Dogocki

Igor Dogocki describes a breathing exercise that includes pinching the nose shut and holding the breath.

„Take a deep diaphragmatic breath. Pinch the tip of your nose shut and hold your breath. Feel the pressure in your sinuses rise (the buildup of carbon dioxide helps chemically change the environment in the nasal sinuses). Exhale, then immediately continue with a long exhalation before moving on to slow exhaling and inhaling.”Weź głęboki oddech przeponowy. Przytrzymaj czubek nosa zamknięty i wstrzymaj oddech. Poczuj wzrost ciśnienia w zatokach (nagromadzony dwutlenek węgla pomaga chemicznie zmienić środowisko zatok nosowych). Zrób wydech i następnie od razu kontynuuj długi wydech, zanim przejdziesz do powolnego wydechu i wdechu.

Igor Dogocki claims that pressing certain points may help cilia move and mucus flow.

„During inflammation, swollen mucous membranes prevent the sinuses from clearing properly by blocking their openings. This then causes mucus to build up, creating an ideal environment for viruses and bacteria. Pressing certain points may help clear the sinuses by allowing the cilia to move and mucus to flow.”W stanach zapalnych obrzęknięta błona śluzowa nie pozwala na prawidłowe oczyszczanie zatok blokując ujście zatok, co w dalszej konsekwencji powoduje gromadzenie się śluzu, który stanowi świetną pożywkę dla wirusów oraz bakteriiUciskanie niektórych punktów może pomóc w oczyszczeniu zatok, umożliwiając rzęskom poruszanie się i przepływ śluzu.
Igor Dogocki

Igor Dogocki stresses that treatment may take a long time if the underlying causes are not removed, and that symptoms may return even after surgery.

„Current treatments for sinusitis may take several years if its causes are not eliminated. The inflammation often flares up in cycles and causes the sinus membranes to thicken (think of calloused skin—this can also be encouraged by frequent irritation of the nasal lining, for example,”Obecne metody leczenia zapalenia zatok przynosowych bez wyeliminowania ich przyczyn mogą trwać kilka lat, a nasilenie stanu zapalnego często przebiega cyklicznie i powoduje pogrubienie błon zatok ( porównajmy to sobie do zrogowaciałej skóry – temu zjawisku będą również sprzyjać częste podrażnienia błony nosa przez np.

Igor Dogocki lists possible causes of sinusitis, including infections, allergies, nasal structure, polyps, dry air, and dental problems.

„According to her, possible causes of sinusitis include: chronic over-acidity of the body (poor diet) bacterial infections (a swab or sample from the sinus opening can be taken to select a targeted antibiotic) or viral infections generalised inflammation of mucous membranes throughout the body allergies and food intolerances (allergy tests) anatomical features that encourage mucus to collect, a deviated nasal septum, or genetic factors, such as impaired cilia movement polyps and thickening of the mucous membrane due to chronic purulent sinus infections (endoscopic examination and FESS surgery, leaving the mucous membrane in the sinuses) fungal infections (in people with weakened immunity or diabetes) dry, hot air, exposure to smoke, nano- and microparticles, and air pollution dental causes such as dead teeth, materials used for root canal treatment, and galvanic currents in the mouth when there are metals in the teeth (for example,”Według niej, przyczynami zapalenia zatok mogą być : przewlekłe zakwaszenie organizmu ( niewłaściwa dieta) infekcje bakteryjne ( można pobrać wymaz lub popłuczyny z ujścia zatok i dobrać celowany antybiotyk) czy wirusowe uogólnione stany zapalne błon śluzowych w całym organizmie alergie i nie tolerancje pokarmowe ( test alergiczne) budowa anatomiczna sprzyjająca zaleganiu śluzu, krzywa przegroda nosa czy czynniki genetyczne np. upośledzenie możliwości ruchu rzęsek polipy, pogrubienie śluzówki na skutek przewlekłych ropnych zapaleń zatok ( badanie endoskopowe i zabieg FESS z pozostawieniem błony śluzowej w zatokach) zakażenia grzybicze ( u osób z upośledzoną odpornością czy cukrzycą) suche gorące powietrze, ekspozycja na dymy, nano i mikropyły i zanieczyszczenia z powietrza przyczyny zębopochodne jak martwe zęby, materiały wykorzystywane do leczenia kanałowego, mikroprądy galwaniczne powstające w ustach gdy w zębach obecne są metale (np.

Igor Dogocki recommends assessing possible causes and mentions, among other things, the connection between the sinuses and upper teeth.

„To treat sinusitis, it would be sensible to assess whether the factors listed above are present. The sinuses are often connected with the upper molars and some premolars, so they affect one another. In somatotopic organisation, the maxillary sinuses are connected with the teeth, thyroid, stomach, and pancreas (so the condition of these organs affects them—for example, whether they function well or not because of,”Będąc rozsądnym, w celu wyleczenia zaplenia zatok, należałoby zająć się oceną występowania powyższych czynników.

Igor Dogocki describes excess mucus and swelling of the mucous membrane as factors that make it harder for the sinuses to clear.

„During inflammation, swollen mucous membranes prevent the sinuses from clearing properly by blocking their openings. This then causes mucus to build up, creating an ideal environment for viruses and bacteria. Pressing certain points may help clear the sinuses by allowing the cilia to move and mucus to flow.”W stanach zapalnych obrzęknięta błona śluzowa nie pozwala na prawidłowe oczyszczanie zatok blokując ujście zatok, co w dalszej konsekwencji powoduje gromadzenie się śluzu, który stanowi świetną pożywkę dla wirusów oraz bakteriiUciskanie niektórych punktów może pomóc w oczyszczeniu zatok, umożliwiając rzęskom poruszanie się i przepływ śluzu.
Jerzy Jaśkowski

Jerzy Jaśkowski reminds readers that a headache is not always caused by the sinuses and recommends first determining whether the inflammation is viral or bacterial.

„Let me remind you that not every headache is caused by the sinuses, and this needs to be distinguished. If our frontal lobes hurt, we often immediately think it must be the sinuses, but this is not necessarily the case. First, check the results of six basic tests—diagnosis is essential.”Przypomnę, że nie każdy ból głowy jest spowodowany zatokami i to trzeba rozróżnić.

Jerzy Jaśkowski lists the tests that, in his view, should be the starting point for diagnosis.

„Start with a complete blood count, iron, and CRP protein. For an older person, also test ASO and RF, urea and creatinine, and do a urinalysis with sediment, because the sediment can provide two important pieces of information: whether there are white blood cells and red blood cells, which should not be present.”Należy zacząć od morfologii, żelaza, białka CRP.

Jerzy Jaśkowski says that the cause of persistent discharge should be investigated, and that a watery runny nose may indicate an allergy.

„If there is persistent discharge from the sinuses, its cause should be investigated. If it is a bacterial infection, the discharge will be a different colour. If the nasal discharge is watery, it is more likely to be an allergy than an infection.

A review found that bromelain may be effective for sinusitis, although the summary presented does not provide detailed results for this condition.

Aim of the study: Background: Pineapple has an important role in ethnopharmacology, and its enzyme, bromelain, has been extensively investigated for its medicinal properties. Aim: This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to assess clinical evidence concerning the efficacy and safety of bromelain.

Results: Topical bromelain significantly reduced the time to complete debridement (mean difference in time = -6.89 days; 95% CI: -7.94, -5.83; n = 4; I2 = 2%). Adverse events may be insignificant and include a burning sensation, pain, fever, and sepsis. Conclusions: Studies of moderate quality demonstrated the potential of oral bromelain for pain control and topical bromelain for wound care. No major health risks were reported during treatment with bromelain.

The review discusses natural methods, such as nasal rinsing and selected supplements, but does not provide results confirming their effectiveness.

Aim of the study: Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) is one of the most common long-term illnesses in the United States, affecting approximately 14 percent of the population. CRS is a challenging condition to treat, partly due to its multifaceted, poorly understood pathophysiology.

Results: Treatment goals include maintaining open drainage and reducing inflammation while improving tissue integrity and limiting causative factors. This review covers the etiology, pathology, and diagnosis of CRS, as well as mainstream and alternative treatments. Discussion of alternative therapies includes nutrients and botanicals (ascorbic acid, bromelain, N-acetylcysteine, quercetin, undecylenic acid, and Urtica dioica and other herbal medicines) and procedures (nasal irrigation and naso-sympatico treatments). The effects of diet and air quality on CRS are also discussed.

After surgery, rinsing the sinuses with Manuka honey improved symptoms and reduced recurrence of allergic fungal rhinosinusitis compared with itraconazole.

Aim of the study: Allergic fungal rhinosinusitis (AFRS) is a persistent sinus condition caused by fungal allergies. Endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS) and postoperative systemic and local medical therapies are the most common treatment protocols. Although oral antifungals such as itraconazole are frequently used postoperatively, there is increasing interest in alternative therapies with fewer systemic adverse effects.

Results: Lund-Kennedy endoscopic scores, total IgE levels, and SNOT-22 scores improved significantly in Group B after Manuka honey sinus irrigation. Both groups had similar Lund-Mackay radiological scores and numbers of postoperative sinus infections during the follow-up period. Postoperative Manuka honey sinus irrigation is more effective than oral itraconazole for reducing symptoms and preventing the recurrence of AFRS. It is considered a promising therapeutic alternative in the postoperative management of AFRS.
