What the authors write

Henryk Różański

Henryk Różański recommends low-gluten or gluten-free foods for people with irritable bowel syndrome and points out that gluten may slow the passage of food and make digestion more difficult.

„People with inflammation of the intestinal mucosa, irritable bowel syndrome, diverticulitis, celiac disease, chronic constipation and bloating, and obesity should eat low-gluten or gluten-free foods. Gluten slows the passage of intestinal contents and can sometimes make food harder to digest by interfering with the penetration of food by bile and digestive enzymes.”Niskoglutenowe i bezglutenowe potrawy powinny konsumować osoby cierpiące na stany zapalane błony śluzowej jelit, na zespół jelita drażliwego, zapalenie uchyłków jelita, celiakię i przewlekłe zaparcia i wzdęcia oraz otyłość. Gluten spowalnia pasaż treści pokarmowej, niekiedy utrudnia trawienie pokarmu, przez zakłócanie penetracji masy pokarmowej przez żółć i enzymy trawienne.
Hubert Czerniak

Hubert Czerniak classifies irritable bowel syndrome as a mild inflammation and writes that sodium butyrate may help with these conditions by reducing inflammation.

„Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is one of the mild inflammations, while ulcerative colitis (colitis ulcerosa) and Crohn’s disease are classified as severe. While medicine is at a loss, further studies have shown that sodium butyrate can help with these conditions because it reduces inflammation.”Do łagodnych zapaleń zaliczymy zespół jelita drażliwego (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), a do skrajnych zakwalifikujemy wrzodziejące zapalenie jelita grubego (colitis ulcerosa) oraz chorobę Lesniowskiego-Crohna. Podczas gdy medycyna rozkłada ręce, kolejne badania wykazały, że maślan sodu jest w stanie pomóc w przypadku tych schorzeń, ponieważ zmniejsza stan zapalny.
Piotr Witczak

Piotr Witczak lists irritable bowel syndrome among the diseases that may be linked to chronic heavy metal poisoning.

„…chronic heavy metal poisoning may be linked to conditions such as: global developmental disorder, mitochondrial disorders, methylation disorders, hypothyroidism, chronic fatigue syndrome, multiple sclerosis, chemical sensitivity, food intolerances, irritable bowel syndrome, atopic dermatitis, and many, many others…”…przewlekłe zatrucie metalami ciężkimi może mieć związek z takimi chorobami jak: całościowe zaburzenie rozwoju, zaburzenia mitochondrialne, zaburzenia metylacji, niedoczynność tarczycy, zespół chronicznego zmęczenia, stwardnienie rozsiane, wrażliwość chemiczna, nietolerancje pokarmowe, zespół jelita drażliwego, atopowe zapalenie skóry, i wiele wiele innych…
Henryk Różański

Henryk Różański lists stressful conditions and long-term depression as possible causes of magnesium deficiency, but does not identify them as causes of irritable bowel syndrome.

„tuberculosis (loss of magnesium through sweat), – long-term use of laxatives, – vomiting, – malabsorption syndrome, irritable bowel; diverticulitis of the colon, – short bowel syndrome, – cancers, – inflammation of the pancreas and liver, – stressful conditions and long-term depression.”gruźlicy (utrata magnezu z potem), – przewlekłe zażywanie środków przeczyszczających, – wymioty, – zespół zaburzonego wchłaniania, jelita nadwrażliwego; zapalenie uchyłków jelita grubego, – zespół jelita krótkiego, – nowotwory, – stan zapalny trzustki i wątroby, – stany stresowe i długotrwałe depresje.

The review reports that emotional stress and eating may worsen IBS symptoms.

Aim of the study: Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a chronic and relapsing functional gastrointestinal disorder that affects 9-23% of the population across the world. Patients with IBS are often referred to gastroenterology, undergo various investigations, take various medicines, take time off work and have a poor quality of life.

Results: Today the Rome Criteria IV is the current gold-standard for the diagnoses of IBS. Treatment of patients with IBS requires a multidisciplinary approach. Some patients respond well to non-pharmacological treatment, while others also require pharmacological treatment. This review will provide a summary of pathophysiology, diagnostic criteria and therapies for IBS.

The review indicates that a diet with limited FODMAP content may be a helpful approach for IBS.

Aim of the study: Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a chronic functional disorder of the gastrointestinal tract and is one of the most commonly diagnosed gastrointestinal diseases. The impact of IBS on the general population is large due to its high prevalence, suboptimal medical treatments and significant economic burden.

Results: The most common therapeutic approaches for IBS include education and reassurance, lifestyles (especially nutrition-based interventions), peripherally acting medications (which typically target motility), centrally acting medications (which target visceral hypersensitivity and pain) and psychological interventions (which aim to reduce the effects of stress or symptom-specific anxiety). A beneficial dietary approach might include the following measures: a diet low in fermentable oligo-,di- and monosaccharides and polyols (FODMAPs), limitation or exclusion of gas-producing foods and/or lactose and gluten and fiber supplementation in selected cases. New therapeutic agents, namely nutraceutics, are also an interesting option in the management of IBS patients. This paper will focus on available dietary interventions for IBS and will review the evidence for nutrition-based therapies.

The review indicates that dietary interventions may provide long-lasting relief from diarrhea and abdominal pain in IBS-D.

Aim of the study: Diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-D) is a common disorder of gut-brain interaction. Current therapeutic approaches frequently fail to provide sustained symptom relief.

Results: The findings suggest that traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture, and dietary interventions can provide sustained relief from core symptoms of IBS-D, including diarrhea and abdominal pain. Their therapeutic effects are mediated through multiple mechanisms, including modulation of the gut microbiota and its metabolites, restoration of intestinal mucosal barrier integrity, attenuation of visceral hypersensitivity, and regulation of the gut-brain axis. These therapies exhibit multi-target and systemic effects with a low incidence of adverse events, highlighting their promising clinical potential. They offer feasible strategies for achieving long-term remission and facilitating personalized management of IBS-D.

After a three-week program combining a low-FODMAP diet with behavioral support, the severity of IBS and depression symptoms decreased.

Aim of the study: We aimed to evaluate the impact of a comprehensive lifestyle program that integrates dietary, behavioral, and peer support strategies on gastrointestinal and extraintestinal symptoms in patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

Results: A total of 14,186 patients with IBS were analyzed; the mean age was 44.5 (16-86) years, and 13,323 (93.9%) were female. IBS-M (mixed bowel habits) was the more frequent IBS subtype (n = 6,496, 45.8%); 8729 (61.5%) had ≥2 extraintestinal symptoms, and 6923 (48.8%) reported moderate or severe depressive symptoms. IBS-Severity Scoring System scores significantly decreased from 287.3 ± 69.5 to 188.3 ± 87.6 (P < .001), and Patient Health Questionnaire-9 scores improved from 10.2 ± 5.4 to 3.6 ± 3.4 (P < .001). All extraintestinal symptom scores showed significant reductions (P < .001), and 5540/8729 (63.5%) and 8403/11,746 (71.5%) reported >50% reduction of intensity in at least 2 extraintestinal digestive and non-digestive symptoms, respectively. A structured multidisciplinary intervention with dietary guidance and non-pharmacological strategies significantly improved both gastrointestinal and extraintestinal symptoms of IBS.

„To achieve an adequate intake of vitamins and minerals, a diet of unprocessed whole foods, along with intelligent use of dietary supplements is more than just a good idea: it is vital." [44: 55] A well-known example is vitamin C, which can effectively fight viral infections, prevent or reverse disease caused by bacteria, and help the body detoxify organic and inorganic toxins. [45] Vitamin C also reduces the risk for cancer, strengthens connective tissues (collagen), and counteracts stress by increasing the adrenal´s production of cortisol. The dose required is set according to the body's need.”To achieve an adequate intake of vitamins and minerals, a diet of unprocessed whole foods, along with intelligent use of dietary supplements is more than just a good idea: it is vital." „For many patients, especially those with: Autoimmune conditions Metabolic syndrome Gut dysbiosis Chronic fatigue A low-toxin, low-carb, animal-based ketogenic diet may offer profound improvements in inflammation, energy, and immune balance. Short-term elimination diets such as the carnivore ketogenic approach allow for the identification of plant-food sensitivities before careful reintroduction. Bottom Line Plant-based foods have nutritional value-but they are not universally benign. The orthomolecular perspective urges us to look beyond headlines and into the metabolic, biochemical, and toxicological context of what we eat.”For many patients, especially those with: Autoimmune conditions Metabolic syndrome Gut dysbiosis Chronic fatigue A low-toxin, low-carb, animal-based ketogenic diet may offer profound improvements in inflammation, energy, and immune balance. „[1-3] Attention to the modifiable risk factors of diet, activity, and stress reduction may delay onset and progression of symptoms. While BPH is "benign" in the sense that it is not a spreading life-threatening tumor or a precursor to prostate cancer, it can significantly impact quality of life. Frequent urination, urgent urination, nocturia, urinary retention, hesitancy, poor stream, incomplete voiding, urge incontinence, and overflow incontinence may all be symptoms of BPH. Surprisingly, the overall size of the prostate gland is not predictive of the symptoms experienced.”[1-3] Attention to the modifiable risk factors of diet, activity, and stress reduction may delay onset and progression of symptoms.
