What the authors write

Henryk Różański

Coriander is said to improve digestive function and regulate bowel movements when used for a longer period.

„In general, coriander acts on the digestive system, improving its secretory and absorptive functions. When used for a longer time (about a week), coriander regulates bowel movements. Uses: digestive disorders, colds, rheumatism, weakness, nervous disorders of the digestive tract, and the growth of abnormal microflora in the digestive tract.”Generalnie kolendra działa na układ trawienny, poprawiając czynności sekrecyjno-absorpcyjne układu pokarmowego. Kolendra stosowana dłuższy czas (około tygodnia) reguluje wypróżnienia. Wskazania: zaburzenia trawienne, choroby przeziębieniowe, reumatyzm, osłabienie, nerwice przewodu pokarmowego, rozwój nieprawidłowej mikroflory w przewodzie pokarmowym.

Fresh coriander herb is said to aid digestion, promote bile flow, and regulate bowel movements.

„It strongly promotes bile flow and aids digestion, and regulates bowel movements. It has antispasmodic, diuretic, and antibacterial effects. An infusion made from fresh or dried herb (1–2 tablespoons per cup of boiling water) can be drunk 4 times a day, 100 ml each time, for inflammation of the respiratory and digestive tracts, as a kidney-cleansing and bile-promoting remedy.”Działa silnie żółciopędnie i trawiennie, reguluje wypróżnienia. Wykazuje działanie rozkurczowe, moczopędne i przeciwbakteryjne. Napar ze świeżego i suchego ziela (z 1-2 łyżek na szklankę wrzątku) można pić 4 razy dziennie po 100 ml w nieżycie układu oddechowego i pokarmowego, jako środek czyszczący nerki i żółciopędny.

Coriander herb is recommended for poor digestive function, while its fruits are recommended for digestive disorders, intestinal atony, and constipation.

„In summary, I recommend coriander herb for diseases of the liver and gallbladder, as well as for pancreatic and stomach disorders, poor digestive tract peristalsis, and urinary tract diseases (infections, kidney stones, colic). Coriander fruit is good for digestive disorders, insufficient milk during breastfeeding, bad breath, intestinal atony, and constipation.”Reasumując, ziele kolendry polecam przy schorzeniach wątroby i pęcherzyka żółciowego, ponadto przy niedomogach trzustki i żołądka, przy słabej perystaltyce przewodu pokarmowego, w chorobach układu moczowego (infekcje, kamica, kolki). Owoc kolendry dobry przy zaburzeniach trawiennych, niedoborze mleka w czasie laktacji, przy nieprzyjemnym zapachu z ust, przy atonii jelit i zaparciach.

Coriander leaves are listed as helpful in cleansing the body.

„Other things that can help with cleansing include dandelion, cilantro (found in coriander leaves), and Silymarol (found in a silymarin concentrate made from milk thistle seeds). The preparation Mumio, rich in vitamins and minerals, can also help cleanse the body. Children can also be given Lugol’s solution, which cleanses the body of heavy metals.”Pomocne w oczyszczaniu są także: mniszek lekarski, cilantro (zawiera ją nać kolendy), sylimarol (zawarty w koncentracie sylimarynowym z nasion ostropestu). W oczyszczaniu organizmu pomoże nam także preparat Mumio — bogactwo witamin i minerałów. Dzieciom warto podawać także płyn Lugola, który oczyszcza organizm z metali ciężkich.

Detoxification with coriander is described as ineffective and dangerous.

„…that detoxification using chlorella, coriander, intravenous infusions of DMPS or glutathione is ineffective and dangerous? …that effective and safe detoxification of the body from heavy metals requires following pharmacokinetic principles and using substances that bind heavy metals for a sufficiently long time?”…detoksykacja za pomocą chlorelli, kolendry, wlewów dożylnych z DMPS czy glutationu jest nieskuteczna i niebezpieczna? …warunkiem skutecznej i bezpiecznej detoksykacji organizmu z metali ciężkich jest przestrzeganie zasad farmakokinetyki i stosowanie substancji, które na odpowiednio długo wiążą metale ciężkie?

In lead-poisoned mice, selenium nanoparticles with coriander extract lowered lead levels in the liver and improved antioxidant protection markers.

Aim of the study: Lead (Pb) is a heavy metal that causes liver toxicity even in trace amounts. This study investigated the therapeutic potential of selenium nanoparticles loaded with coriander extract (coriander@Se-NPs) against Pb toxicity in a mouse model, comparing their effectiveness with the benchmark chelator, DMSA.

Results: Notably, coriander@Se-NPs showed strong anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic effects, as shown by a 12.5-fold reduction in IL-6 and suppression of Caspase 3 to below-normal levels (0.399-fold). In addition, coriander@Se-NPs stabilized Beclin 1 levels, suggesting that normal cellular autophagy balance was restored. These findings indicate that coriander@Se-NPs provide better, multi-faceted protection against heavy metal poisoning than traditional synthetic chelators such as DMSA, highlighting their potential as a highly effective nanomedicine for clinical toxicology. Further studies are needed to explore their potential clinical applications and mechanisms.

In lead-poisoned rats, administration of coriander extract was associated with lower lead concentrations compared with the lead-poisoned control group.

Aim of the study: The rate of lead poisoning has decreased in recent years because of increased health controls in industries that use this metal. However, it remains a public health problem worldwide. The use of various plants with chelating properties is currently a topic of research. Traditional medicine holds that Coriandrum sativum has chelating properties, but there is no scientific evidence to support this claim.

Results: The LD50 of the methanol extract of coriander was >1000 mg/dL. The group given the methanol extract showed significant differences in hemoglobin and hematocrit levels compared with the negative control group. Lead concentrations in the treatment groups decreased compared with the positive control. Histological evaluation of the tissue showed less damage in the groups given the methanol extract and its fractions than in the positive control group, which showed structural changes. Coriander extracts protect the liver and lower lead concentrations in lead-poisoned rats, compared with the positive control group.

In mice, coriander leaf extract lowered iron, arsenic, and cadmium levels in the kidneys, but did not change the levels of the metals tested in the liver.

Aim of the study: Coriandrum sativum (coriander) is an annual herb in the Apiaceae family and has been used as a traditional remedy. Here, we examined whether heated coriander leaf extract lowers heavy metal concentrations in tissues.

Results: APF fluorescence increased markedly in control kidney slices, while this increase was completely blocked in kidney slices from the coriander intake group. In contrast, APF fluorescence also increased markedly in control liver slices, and coriander intake did not block this increase. This study indicates that consuming coriander leaf extract helps provide strong resistance to oxidative stress in the kidney, probably by lowering heavy metal concentrations. The reduction of arsenic concentrations to the detection limit is likely a major factor in this resistance.
