Sources: 3 · Article: 6 516 characters

Henryk Różański says that bear’s garlic is said to lower blood pressure and cholesterol and to have anti-atherosclerotic and anti-clotting effects.

  • Among its uses, he lists the risk of heart attack, embolism and thrombosis, excessive fermentation, and impaired bile flow.
  • He recommends an infusion made from fresh or dried herb, 200 ml 3–4 times a day; the herb is harvested in May, during flowering, and younger plants are better suited for drying.
  • According to Różański, bear’s garlic releases substances that inhibit the growth of disease-causing microorganisms, but it is not medicinally superior to cultivated garlic.

Bear’s garlic is said to lower blood pressure and cholesterol and to have anti-atherosclerotic and anti-clotting effects.

„Effects: antidiabetic, blood-cholesterol-lowering; hypotensive (against high blood pressure), anti-atherosclerotic, antithrombotic, antibacterial, antiprotozoal, fungicidal and fungistatic; choleretic, anticancer, detoxifying, antiparasitic (taken on an empty stomach).”Działanie: przeciwcukrzycowe, obniżające poziom cholesterolu we krwi; hipotensyjne (przeciwko nadciśnieniu), przeciwmiażdżycowe, antyzakrzepowe, antybakteryjne, pierwotniakobójcze, grzybobójcze i fungistatyczne; żółciopędne, przeciwnowotworowe, odtruwające, przeciwpasożytnicze (na czczo).

Among its uses, Henryk Różański lists the risk of heart attack, embolism and thrombosis, excessive fermentation, and impaired bile flow.

„Impaired bile flow, excessive fermentation, risk of heart attack, embolism and thrombosis; phlebitis; chronic bacterial systemic and skin diseases. Preparations and dosage. Dried and fresh bear’s garlic herb can be steeped in milk or water and taken 3–4 times a day, 200 ml per dose (1–2 tablespoons of herb).”Zaburzenia w przepływie żółci, nadmierna fermentacja, zagrożenie zawałem, zatorem, zakrzepicą; zapalenie żył; przewlekłe bakteryjne choroby układowe i skórne. Preparaty i dawkowanie. Suche i świeże ziele czosnku niedźwiedziego można parzyć w mleku lub wodzie i podawać 3-4 razy dziennie po 200 ml (1-2 łyżki surowca).

Henryk Różański recommends an infusion made from dried or fresh herb, 200 ml 3–4 times a day.

„Dried and fresh bear’s garlic herb can be steeped in milk or water and taken 3–4 times a day, 200 ml per dose (1–2 tablespoons of herb). For a tincture or fresh-herb extract: 1 part herb to 5 parts alcohol at 40–60%, macerate for at least 7 days. For high blood pressure and atherosclerosis, take one small glass of tincture in the morning, once a day.”Suche i świeże ziele czosnku niedźwiedziego można parzyć w mleku lub wodzie i podawać 3-4 razy dziennie po 200 ml (1-2 łyżki surowca). Nalewkę i intrakt na świeżym zielu: 1 cz. surowca na 5 części alkoholu 40-60%, macerować minimum 7 dni. Przy nadciśnieniu i miażdżycy 1 mały kieliszek nalewki rano, 1 raz dziennie.

Henryk Różański believes that bear’s garlic is not medicinally superior to cultivated garlic.

„In my opinion, bear’s garlic is not medicinally superior to cultivated garlic (I advise against garlic of Chinese origin; when buying, look for Italian, French, German, Spanish, Bulgarian, Turkish, Greek, and of course Polish or Swiss garlic, which are the best).”Moim zdaniem czosnek niedźwiedzi pod względem leczniczym nie przewyższa czosnku uprawnego (odradzam czosnek pochodzenia chińskiego; przy zakupie poszukiwać czosnek włoski, francuski, niemiecki, hiszpański, bułgarski, turecki, grecki, no i oczywiście polski lub szwajcarski, które są najlepsze).
Henryk Różański

Bear’s garlic herb should be harvested in May, during flowering; younger plants are better suited for drying.

„The herb should be gathered in May, during flowering. The younger it is, the better, especially if you want to dry it. Herb gathered during fruiting often turns yellow when dried and is not suitable for medicinal use. Fresh herb can be used to make an extract, or it can be chopped and frozen like parsley or dill.”Ziele należy pozyskiwać w maju, w czasie kwitnienia.

Bear’s garlic releases substances that, according to Henryk Różański, inhibit the growth of disease-causing microorganisms.

„The plant releases phytoncides into its surroundings, which inhibit the growth of pathogenic microorganisms. You will undoubtedly notice the smell when near bear’s garlic. Abroad, bear’s garlic can be found in capsules and tablets, as well as in flavored cheeses.”Roślina wydziela do otoczenia fitoncydy, które wpływają na zahamowanie rozwoju mikroorganizmów patogennych. Będąc w pobliżu czosnku niedźwiedziego niewątpliwie wyczujemy jego zapach. Czosnek niedźwiedzi spotkać można za granicą w postaci kapsułek i tabletek oraz w serach smakowych.

We selected 1 studies with the best, positive results. This is a selection, not a full review of all research.

The review points to possible protective effects of bear’s garlic, including cardioprotective effects, but emphasizes that the evidence comes mainly from laboratory and animal studies.

Aim of the study: Allium ursinum L. (wild garlic) is a promising source of bioactive compounds for functional foods, nutraceuticals, and clean-label products.

Results: Extraction, encapsulation, and stabilization technologies may support its use as a natural alternative to synthetic additives. Nevertheless, compositional variability, processing stability, bioavailability, authenticity, quality control, and raw-material supply remain major barriers to standardization and industrial application. Further research should combine phytochemical characterization with technological, safety, clinical, and sustainability assessments to enable reliable use of A. ursinum in food and nutraceutical products.
