VaccinesThe HPV vaccine — what isn’t included in information leaflets for parents?
Sources: 9 · Article: 18 016 characters
The STOP NOP Association points to chronic symptoms reported after HPV vaccination, such as extreme fatigue, pain, dizziness, fainting, and difficulty walking.
- It lists POTS, autoimmune and thyroid disorders, premature menopause or ovarian failure, infertility, and inflammation of the nervous system among the reported risks.
- It questions the reassuring findings of some studies, pointing to their observational nature, low-quality data, and difficulties detecting rarer harms.
- At the same time, it says that EMA/WHO have not confirmed a causal link, but have not ruled one out either; the manufacturer’s leaflet is said to describe studies, reports received after the vaccine was marketed, and contraindications.

After HPV vaccination, girls and young women reported extreme fatigue, pain, dizziness, fainting, and difficulty walking.
„The film “Vaccinated Girls” tells the stories of several Danish teenage girls and young women who began reporting serious, chronic symptoms after HPV vaccination (mainly with Gardasil): extreme fatigue, pain, dizziness, fainting, and difficulty walking.”Film „Zaszczepione dziewczęta” przedstawia historie kilku duńskich nastolatek i młodych kobiet, które po szczepieniu przeciw HPV (głównie Gardasilem) zaczęły zgłaszać poważne, przewlekłe objawy: skrajne zmęczenie, bóle, zawroty głowy, omdlenia, problemy z chodzeniem.

Some of the symptoms described were linked to POTS, and doctors at Synkopecenteret did not rule out a connection with the vaccine.
„Some of them link these symptoms to conditions such as POTS. The documentary shows their daily lives, their frustration with the healthcare system, and comments from doctors at Synkopecenteret, who did not rule out a connection with the vaccine. After it aired in Denmark, vaccination rates fell sharply.”Część z nich wiąże te dolegliwości z zespołami takimi jak POTS.

The STOP NOP Association notes that Gardasil contains an aluminum adjuvant and cites concerns about its possible effects on the body, including allergies, autoimmunity, and neurological events.
„The Gardasil vaccine contains an enhanced aluminum adjuvant. A number of studies document concerning effects of such adjuvants on the body: cell fate, bioretention, translocation to the brain, and numerous adverse effects (allergy, autoimmunity, neurological and neuroinflammatory events, behavioral changes) in humans and in animal and cell models.”Szczepionka Gardasil zawiera wzmocniony adiuwant aluminiowy. The STOP NOP Association points out that later analyses and statements by EMA/WHO did not confirm a causal link with the syndromes described, but did not rule one out either.
„They did not confirm it, but they did not rule it out either!
In addition, the studies that “do not confirm” it are questionable in terms of methodology and quality, but more on that in a moment.
The most important arguments:
The story of the Danish girls is reflected in well-documented American lawsuits.”Nie potwierdziły, ale też nie wykluczyły!
Stowarzyszenie STOP NOP
The STOP NOP Association cites information about lawsuits alleging that the Gardasil vaccine caused, among other things, premature ovarian failure, POTS, and autoimmune disorders; the settlement described was not a finding of liability.
„The plaintiffs alleged that the vaccine caused, among other things, premature ovarian failure leading to infertility, POTS, autoimmune disorders, and other serious conditions. Merck, the manufacturer of the HPV vaccine, had the opportunity to prove the safety of its product in court, but preferred to settle without a finding of liability and pay money.
Gardasil Injury Settlement
Several safety signals were recently detected in the American Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS), confirming the stories of the Danish girls and the American lawsuits.”Powodowie zarzucali szczepionce m.in. przedwczesną niewydolność jajników prowadzącą do bezpłodności, POTS, zaburzenia autoimmunologiczne i inne poważne. Merck, producent szczepionki przeciw HPV, miał okazję udowodnić przed sądem bezpieczeństwo swojego produktu, ale wolał pójść na ugodę bez orzekania o winie i wypłacić pieniądze
Gardasil Injury Settlement
W amerykańskim systemie zgłaszania niepożądanych zdarzeń po szczepieniach (VAERS) ostatnio wykryto kilka sygnałów bezpieczeństwa, które potwierdzają historie duńskich dziewczyn i pozwów amerykańskich.
Stowarzyszenie STOP NOP
The STOP NOP Association says that less than 1% of events following vaccination are reported to the American VAERS database and that safety signals have been detected in it.
„Only <1% of events that occur after vaccination are reported to such databases, so the registers do not reflect the scale of the phenomenon. However, if an event occurs statistically significantly more often with a given vaccine than would be expected based on the database’s “average,” a disproportionality (safety) signal arises.”Do takich baz zgłaszanych jest tylko <1% zdarzeń występujących po szczepieniach, dlatego rejestry nie oddają skali zjawiska. Jeśli jednak dla danej szczepionki zdarzenie pojawia się statystycznie istotnie częściej niż wynikałoby to z „średniej” bazy – powstaje sygnał dysproporcjonalności (bezpieczeństwa).

The STOP NOP Association acknowledges that the cited review of 225 studies covering more than 132 million people found no increased risk of some of the listed conditions, but questions the quality of those studies.
„https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC12640735/ — 225 studies, over 132 million people: HPV vaccination was not associated with an increased risk of postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), chronic fatigue syndrome / ME, paralysis, complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), premature ovarian failure, or infertility.
A significant proportion of these studies have conflicts of interest and rely on low-quality data.”https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC12640735/ – 225 badań, ponad 132 mln osób: szczepienie HPV nie było związane ze zwiększonym ryzykiem zespołu posturalnej tachykardii ortostatycznej (POTS), zespołu przewlekłego zmęczenia / ME, porażenia, kompleksowego zespołu bólu regionalnego (CRPS), przedwczesnej niewydolności jajników, niepłodności.
Istotna cześć tych badań ma konflikty interesów i opiera się na niskiej jakości danych.

The STOP NOP Association points out that observational studies without randomization may be poor at detecting rare complications, and says they do not allow us to reliably conclude that the vaccine is safe or that its benefits outweigh its risks.
„These studies are poor at detecting serious, rarer complications because they measure hospital codes for selected clinical conditions in non-equivalent groups (without randomization), rather than actual disease across the whole population.
On this basis, it cannot be reliably concluded that the HPV vaccine is safe and that its benefits outweigh its risks.
Indeed, the authors of this meta-analysis confirmed this:
“HPV vaccines increased the number of serious nervous system disorders (exploratory analysis) and overall harms.”
According to the authors, the balance of benefits and risks remains unclear.”Te badania są słabe w wykrywaniu poważnych, rzadszych powikłań, bo mierzą kody szpitalne wybranych stanów klinicznych w grupach nierównoważnych (brak randomizacji), a nie rzeczywistą chorobę w całej populacji.
Nie można na tej podstawie wiarygodnie stwierdzić, że szczepionka przeciw HPV jest bezpieczna oraz że korzyść przewyższa ryzyko
Zresztą potwierdzili to autorzy tej metaanalizy:
„szczepionki przeciwko HPV zwiększyły liczbę poważnych zaburzeń układu nerwowego (analiza eksploracyjna) i szkód ogólnych.”
Według autorów bilans korzyści i ryzyka pozostaje niejasny.

However, it is very important to read the vaccine manufacturer’s leaflet, which provides the results of clinical trials conducted before licensing, as well as reported adverse reactions after the vaccine was marketed, and what the manufacturer considers a contraindication (a reason not to vaccinate) for use of that vaccine.”przyczyny medyczne zwiększonej ostrożności lub wstrzymania się od szczepienia dziecka lub dorosłego.35

The review found that reminders and strategies combining different actions may increase HPV vaccination rates among adolescents.
Aim of the study: Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination is a well-known fundamental strategy in the prevention of cervical cancer, as it is always caused by HPV infection. In fact, primary prevention of the infection corresponds to primary prevention of HPV-related cancers and other diseases.
Results: This research identified, through a systematic literature review, 38 papers on strategies adopted to increase HPV vaccination coverage among adolescents. The evaluated strategies targeted adolescents/parents and/or healthcare providers and could be grouped in three main types: (1) reminder-based, (2) education, information, and communication activities, and (3) multicomponent strategies. Several types of strategy, such as those relied only on reminders and integrating different interventions, showed a positive impact on vaccination coverage. Nonetheless, the heterogeneity of the interventions suggests the importance to adapt such strategies to the specific national/local contexts to maximize vaccination coverage.

In the study, a chatbot increased the proportion of parents whose daughters had received or scheduled vaccination, as well as the number of consultations about the vaccine.
Aim of the study: Conversational artificial intelligence, in the form of chatbots powered by large language models, offers a new approach to facilitating human-like interactions, yet its efficacy in enhancing vaccination uptake remains under-investigated.
Results: In intention-to-treat analyses, 7.1% of the intervention group met this outcome versus 1.8% of the control group (P < 0.001) over a two-week intervention period. In addition, there was a statistically significant increase in HPV vaccination-specific consultations with health professionals (49.1% versus 17.6%, P < 0.001), along with enhanced vaccine literacy (P < 0.001) and rumor discernment (P < 0.001) among participants using the chatbot. These findings indicate that the chatbot effectively increased vaccination and improved parental vaccine literacy, although further research is necessary to scale and sustain these gains. Clinical trial registration: NCT06227689 .

Parents were more confident in the vaccine when messages explained its benefits, including cancer prevention, and addressed gaps in knowledge.
Results: Parents were more confident in HPV vaccine when they were exposed to messages that addressed lack of knowledge about HPV vaccine (b = 0.13; P = .01), messages that included information about cancer prevention (b = 0.11; P < .001), messages that required a higher reading level (b = 0.02; P = .01), and messages that were longer (b = 0.03; P < .001). Parents were less confident in HPV vaccine when exposed to messages in which urgency was expressed (b = -0.06; P = .005). Analyses conducted by using HPV vaccine motivation as an outcome revealed the same pattern of findings. We provide research-tested messages that providers can use to address parents' HPV vaccination questions and concerns about 7 common topics. Important principles for increasing message effectiveness are to include information on the benefits of vaccination (including cancer prevention) and avoid expressing urgency to vaccinate when addressing parents' questions or concerns.

Group education increased mothers’ knowledge and positive beliefs about HPV and the vaccine.
Aim of the study: In this study the authors' investigated the effect of group education on human papillomavirus (HPV) on level of knowledge and health beliefs for HPV infection and vaccine. The study was semi-experimental with a pre- and post-test education model.
Results: The groups were educated on different content and three evaluations (pre-education, post-education, and six months following the education) were made. HPV knowledge and belief scores of the education group increased compared to pre-education and control group scores (p < 0.001). Perceived barriers to vaccination were similar in both groups (p > 0.05). Group education increases awareness about HPV infection and vaccine.
