Mercury in the body — can it be safely removed in small doses?

Sources: 11 · Article: 13 794 characters

Piotr Witczak describes the Cutler Protocol as chelation based on small, frequent doses of ALA, adjusted to how it acts in the body.

  • Piotr Witczak explains that ALA binds mercury, enters the brain, and increases its excretion in stool and urine.
  • Piotr Witczak says that dosing in line with the body's kinetics is intended to limit mercury from moving into more sensitive tissues.
  • Hubert Czerniak also mentions DMSA and DMPS and various ALA dosing schedules, while Piotr Witczak describes cycles lasting three days.
  • Piotr Witczak notes that no evidence of this treatment method's effectiveness has been published in scientific journals.

What the authors write

Piotr Witczak

The protocol involves taking low doses of ALA frequently, in line with its pharmacokinetics.

„The only safe way is the Cutler Protocol, which removes heavy metals by taking alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) frequently in low doses, in line with its pharmacokinetics. Any other detox method that does not take these principles into account is potentially dangerous because of the uncontrolled redistribution of these neurotoxins from less sensitive organs (e.g.”Jedyny bezpieczny sposób, to protokół Cutlera polegający na usuwaniu metali ciężkich poprzez częste przyjmowanie kwasu alfa-liponowego (ALA) w niskich dawkach, zgodnie z farmakokinetyką. ALA is described as a substance that binds mercury, crosses the blood-brain barrier, and increases mercury excretion in stool and urine.

„Scientific studies confirm that ALA is a mercury chelator[12], crosses the blood-brain barrier, preventing mercury-related brain damage[13][14], and increases mercury excretion in stool and urine[15][16]. Because it is easily absorbed from the digestive tract and can cross the blood-brain barrier, externally supplied LA can reach most tissues in the body[17].”Badania naukowe potwierdzają, że ALA jest chelatorem rtęci[12], przechodzi przez barierę krew-mózg zapobiegając powodowanym przez rtęć uszkodzeniom mózgu[13][14] i zwiększa wydalanie rtęci z kałem i moczem[15][16].
Piotr Witczak

Dosing chelators in line with changes in their levels in the body is intended to limit metals from moving into sensitive tissues.

„A.H. Cutler was the first to point out that effective and safe chelation depends on using chelating compounds (mainly ALA, dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA), and 2,3-dimercapto-1-propanesulfonic acid (DMPS)) in line with their pharmacokinetics (changes in the level of a compound or its metabolites in the body over time — editor's note), which minimizes the redistribution of heavy metals into more sensitive tissues[58].”A.H.
Piotr Witczak

Piotr Witczak writes that there is no published scientific evidence confirming that this treatment method is effective.

„The Cutler Protocol is described in two books: Amalgam Illness: Diagnosis and Treatment[64] and The Mercury Detoxification Manual: A Guide to Mercury Chelation[65]. Unfortunately, apart from numerous informal accounts of improved functioning in children with ASD after using the Cutler Protocol[66], no evidence of this treatment method's effectiveness has been published in scientific journals to date.”Protokół Cutlera opisany jest w dwóch książkach: Amalgam Illness: Diagnosis and Treatment[64] i The Mercury Detoxification Manual: A Guide to Mercury Chelation[65].
Piotr Witczak

Piotr Witczak warns that methods that do not follow these principles may move metals from less sensitive organs into the nervous system.

„Any other detox method that does not take these principles into account is potentially dangerous because it can cause uncontrolled redistribution of these neurotoxins from less sensitive organs (e.g. muscles, fatty tissue) to more sensitive ones (the nervous system), and may even worsen the course of the disease.”Każdy inny sposób na detoksykację, który nie uwzględnia tych zasad, jest potencjalnie niebezpieczny, z uwagi na niekontrolowaną redystrybucję tych neurotoksyn z organów mniej wrażliwych (np. mięśnie, tkanka tłuszczowa) do bardziej wrażliwych (układ nerwowy) i może wręcz nasilić przebieg choroby.
Piotr Witczak

Piotr Witczak describes preparation for detoxification as a stage in which metals are mobilized, while supplements and diet are intended to support the body.

„Although the Cutler Protocol is designed to make the effects of mobilization as unnoticeable as possible, basic supplementation (vitamin C, vitamin E, magnesium, zinc, and support for the liver and adrenal glands) is necessary to support the body, and in many cases so is a special diet.”Chociaż protokół Cutlera opracowany jest w taki sposób, aby efekt mobilizacji był jak najmniej odczuwalny, to w celu wsparcia organizmu niezbędna jest podstawowa suplementacja (witamina C, witamina E, magnez, cynk, wsparcie wątroby i nadnerczy), a w wielu przypadkach również dieta.
Piotr Witczak

Piotr Witczak gives a cycle lasting three days and two nights, with a dose taken every three hours.

„If you can, every week (you can do it every 2 weeks or even less often, but the process will take longer), take or give someone else a set dose of the supplement every 3 hours, continuously for three days and two nights (a series of alarms on your mobile phone works well), then yes — you are ready!”Jeśli jesteś w stanie w każdym tygodniu (można co 2 tygodnie lub jeszcze rzadziej, ale proces się wydłuża) nieprzerwanie przez trzy dni i dwie noce co 3 godziny (dobrze sprawdza się seria alarmów w telefonie komórkowym) przyjmować lub podawać innej osobie określoną dawkę suplementu, to tak – jesteś gotowy!
Piotr Witczak

Piotr Witczak notes that detoxification may take from one year to several years.

„The program consists of four basic stages: Identifying metabolic disorders (from a few days to a few weeks) Preparing for detoxification (from two weeks to several months) Detoxification (from one year to several years) Optimization (for the rest of your life) PHASE I: Identifying metabolic disorders Accurately identifying metabolic disorders aims to guide diet and supplementation so that symptoms can be managed and well-being significantly improved until a significant ongoing exposure is stopped (Phase II) and toxic metals are removed from the body (Phase III).”Program składa się z czterech podstawowych etapów: Identyfikacja zaburzeń metabolicznych (od kilku dni do kilku tygodni) Przygotowanie do detoksykacji (od dwóch tygodni do kilku miesięcy) Detoksykacja (od roku do kilku lat) Optymalizacja (do końca życia) FAZA I: Identyfikacja zaburzeń metabolicznych Precyzyjna identyfikacja zaburzeń metabolicznych ma na celu dostosowanie diety i suplementacji, które pozwolą na kontrolę objawów i znaczącą poprawę samopoczucia do momentu przerwania istotnej bieżącej ekspozycji (Faza II) i usunięcia toksycznych metali z organizmu (Faza III).
Hubert Czerniak

Hubert Czerniak describes ALA as a substance that crosses the blood-brain barrier and binds metals, and also recommends taking smaller doses frequently.

„Alpha-lipoic acid is a saturated fatty acid that dissolves in both fat and water. It crosses the blood-brain barrier, draws heavy metals out of the brain, and tries to eliminate them. The Cutler Protocol for removing heavy metals from the body concerned alpha-lipoic acid, which can be in the R form, the S form, or a mixture of R and S.”Kwas alfa-liponowy to kwas tłuszczowy nasycony, który jest rozpuszczalny w tłuszczach i w wodzie.
Hubert Czerniak

Hubert Czerniak gives an ALA dose every four hours, as well as cycles of use and breaks.

„The optimal dose is 12.5 mg 6 times a day, or 1 tablet every 4 hours between meals. ALA is the best chelator for mercury, lead, cadmium, nickel, arsenic, iron, manganese, cobalt, copper, and zinc, and probably also thallium, tungsten, palladium, and antimony.”Optymalne dawki to 6 razy dziennie po 12,5 mg, czyli 1 tabletka co 4 godziny między posiłkami. ALA jest najlepszym chelatorem rtęci, ołowiu, kadmu, niklu, arsenu, żelaza, manganu, kobaltu, miedzi i cynku, a prawdopodobnie także talu, wolframu, palladu i antymonu.
Hubert Czerniak

Hubert Czerniak also gives a schedule of ALA every three hours, DMSA every four hours, and DMPS every eight hours, with three days of use followed by a four-day break.

„Dr. Cutler recommended taking ALA every 3 hours, DMSA every 4 hours, and DMPS every 8 hours in cycles of 3 days followed by a 4-day break. Remember that Lugol's solution is always helpful for removing heavy metals. The Cutler Protocol also recommends taking coriander (in any form—leaves, root, or seeds) along with ALA.”Dr Cutler zalecał stosowanie ALA co 3 godziny, DMSA co 4 godziny i DMPS co 8 godzin w cyklach 3-dniowych i 4-dniowej przerwy.
Hubert Czerniak

Hubert Czerniak mentions coriander as something taken along with ALA and claims that it increases detoxification.

„The Cutler Protocol recommends taking coriander along with ALA (in any form—leaves, root, or seeds). It increases the body's detoxification by the substances mentioned above by as much as 30%. Eat as much as you can manage without developing an aversion from having too much.”Protokół Cutlera mówi o przyjmowaniu razem z ALA także kolendry siewnej (nieważne w jakiej formie – natki, korzonka czy nasionek). Zwiększa ona oczyszczanie organizmu przez powyższe substancje aż o 30%. Spożywamy ją w takiej ilości, w jakiej będziemy potrafili zjeść, aby nie nabrać wstrętu wynikającego z nadmiaru.

A review indicates that dithiol chelators may increase mercury excretion, although their clinical benefits in chronic poisoning have not been firmly established.

Aim of the study: Chelation for heavy metal intoxication began more than 70 years ago with the development of British anti-lewisite (BAL; dimercaprol) in wartime Britain as a potential antidote to the arsenical warfare agent lewisite (dichloro[2-chlorovinyl]arsine). DMPS (unithiol) and DMSA (succimer), water-soluble dithiol analogs of BAL, were developed in the Soviet Union and China in the late 1950s.

Results: Controlled animal experiments support a therapeutic role for these chelators in the prompt treatment of acute poisoning by arsenic and inorganic mercury salts. Treatment should be started as quickly as possible (within minutes to a few hours), since its effectiveness declines or disappears as the time between metal exposure and the start of chelation increases. DMPS and DMSA have a higher therapeutic index than BAL and do not redistribute arsenic or mercury to the brain, giving them advantages in clinical practice. Although chelation after chronic exposure to inorganic arsenic and inorganic mercury may speed up metal excretion and reduce the metal burden in some organs, its potential therapeutic benefit in terms of reducing illness and death is largely unestablished in cases of chronic metal poisoning.

In the reported case, proteinuria resolved and urinary mercury levels returned to normal after DMPS chelation and treatment with glucocorticoids.

Aim of the study: Mercury-associated minimal change disease (M-MCD) is a rare form of secondary minimal change disease (MCD) caused by chronic mercury exposure. Because it is rare and its clinical presentation is nonspecific, M-MCD is often overlooked in clinical practice.

Results: The patient received four courses of sodium dimercaptopropane sulfonate chelation therapy combined with glucocorticoids. Complete remission of proteinuria was achieved within 1 month, accompanied by normalization of urinary mercury levels. This case highlights the need to obtain a detailed exposure history in patients with unexplained nephrotic syndrome, particularly among young women using skin-whitening cosmetics. Prompt recognition of mercury exposure and timely chelation therapy are essential for achieving remission; additional glucocorticoids may be considered in selected patients with severe disease or suspected immune-mediated injury.

A review states that effective clinical treatments for mercury poisoning have been described.

Aim of the study: Mercury is a toxic heavy metal that is widely dispersed in nature. Most human exposure results from eating fish or from dental amalgam.

Results: Mercury occurs in several chemical forms, with complex pharmacokinetics. It can cause a wide range of clinical presentations. Diagnosing mercury toxicity can be challenging, but it can be done with reasonable reliability. Effective treatments for clinical toxicity have been described.

Hair analysis can also be very useful for evaluating heavy metal levels in the body and should be done along with the provoked urine challenge. „Three Western countries have completely banned mercury amalgams, for everyone and at every age. „Although there is also much debate about the inherent toxicity of the antigens that many vaccines present to the immune systems of those vaccinated, there is no question, for example, that thimerosal, a mercury-containing preservative, is highly toxic when present in significant amounts. This raises the question: Instead of arguing about whether the amounts of thimerosal or other potentially toxic components currently used in vaccines are infinitesimally, minimally, moderately, or significantly toxic, why not neutralize whatever toxicity is present as completely and definitively as possible?”While there is also a great deal of dispute over the inherent toxicity of the antigens that many vaccines present to the immune systems of those vaccinated, there is no question, for example, that thimerosal, a mercury-containing preservative, is highly toxic when present in significant amounts. This then begs the question: Rather than argue whether there is an infinitesimal, minimal, moderate, or significant amount of toxicity associated with the amounts of thimerosal or other potentially toxic components presently being used in vaccines, why not just neutralize whatever toxicity is present as completely and definitively as possible?
