Henryk Różański

Water extracts of restharrow have diuretic and anti-swelling effects and increase sodium chloride excretion.

„Water extracts of restharrow have antirheumatic and anti-gout effects (they increase uric acid secretion), act as diuretics and reduce swelling, and increase sodium chloride excretion. They increase the secretion of bile and gastric juice and regulate the peristalsis of the digestive tract.”Wodne wyciągi z wilżyny działają przeciwreumatycznie, przeciwartretycznie (wzmagają wydzielanie kwasu moczowego), moczopędnie, przeciwobrzękowo, zwiększają wydalanie chlorku sodu. Wzmagają wydzielanie żółci i soku żołądkowego, regulują perystaltykę przewodu pokarmowego.

Water extracts of restharrow are said to prevent urinary stones and facilitate the excretion of sand from the urinary tract.

„Water extracts prevent urinary stones and facilitate the excretion of sand from the urinary tract. Combined with orthosiphon, bearberry, and Herniaria, they cleanse the urinary tract well and help prevent infections. The isoflavones in restharrow have estrogenic effects and may be used in cases of estrogen deficiency and when estrogen levels fall (menopause).”Wodne wyciągi zapobiegają kamicy moczowej i ułatwiają wydalanie piasku z układu moczowego. W połączeniu z ortosyfonem, mącznicą i połonicznikiem dobrze oczyszcza drogi moczowe i zapobiega infekcjom. Izoflawony wilżyny mają działanie estrogenne i mogą być stosowane przy niedoborach estrogenów oraz w okresie spadku ich poziomu (menopauza).

Restharrow was described in the past as a diuretic, used for diseases of the kidneys and bladder and recommended for kidney and bladder stones.

„The diuretic properties of spiny restharrow were described by Pedanius Dioscorides (c. 40–90) and Pliny (23–79). Later, Pietro Andrea Gregorio Mattioli, also known as Matthiolus (1501–1577), described using restharrow to treat diseases of the kidneys and urinary bladder and blood poisoning. In the early 20th century, pharmacy decoctions were prepared with 5–15 g of crushed root to 180 ml of water. The root was boiled for 5–10 minutes. The decoction was to be consumed over the course of the day, in small amounts. Dr. M.T. Schnirer (1927) recommended taking powdered restharrow root at a dose of 1–2.5 g three times a day. Dr. G. Madaus (1935) recommended restharrow preparations for treating kidney and bladder stones.”Moczopędne właściwości wilżyny ciernistej były opisane przez Pedanios’a Dioscurides’a (ok. 40-90 r.) i Plinius’a (23-79 r.). Potem zastosowanie wilżyny w leczeniu chorób nerek i pęcherza moczowego i zatruć krwi opisał Pietro Andrea Gregorio Mattioli, czyli Matthiolus (1501-1577). Na początku XX wieku do sporządzenia aptecznego odwaru brano 5-15 g rozdrobnionego korzenia na 180 ml wody. Korzeń gotowano 5-10 minut. Odwar należało spożyć w ciągu dnia, pijąc małymi porcjami. Dr M.T. Schnirer (1927 r.) polecał spożywanie sproszkowanego korzenia wilżyny w dawce 1-2,5 g 3 razy dziennie. Dr G. Madaus (1935 r.) zalecał przetwory z wilżyny w leczeniu kamicy nerkowej i pęcherzowej.

Restharrow preparations are listed as being used for swelling and to prevent urinary stones.

„Today, restharrow preparations are used successfully to treat inflammation of the kidneys and urinary bladder, low urine output, swelling, high blood pressure, chronic skin and metabolic diseases, to prevent urinary stones, and in detoxification treatments.”Obecnie preparaty z wilżyny są wykorzystywane z powodzeniem w leczeniu stanów zapalnych nerek i pęcherza moczowego, skąpomoczu, obrzęków, nadciśnienia, przewlekłych chorób skóry i metabolicznych, do profilaktyki kamicy moczowej oraz kuracji odtruwających.

The recommended dose of restharrow infusion is given, and it is stated that higher doses are not harmful.

„An infusion can be prepared from the raw herb (5–12 g to a cup of boiling water; leave to stand for 40 minutes) and taken by mouth 2–3 times a day, 100–150 ml each time. Higher doses are not harmful. The herb is completely safe. It can be given to children.”Z surowców można sporządzać napar (5-12 g na szklankę wrzącej wody; odstawić na 40 minut) i przyjmować doustnie 2-3 razy dziennie po 100-150 ml. Większe dawki nie działają szkodliwie. Zioło całkowicie bezpieczne. Można podawać dzieciom.

Restharrow is listed as an ingredient in diuretic herbal blends.

„For diuretic effects, restharrow works well in blends with Herniaria, knotweeds, couch grass, goldenrod, and birch. For antirheumatic effects, I recommend combining Cirsium herb with meadowsweet flowers, Gentiana pneumonanthe herb, cow-wheat herb, yellow-rattle herb, poplar leaves, poplar buds, Japanese knotweed, licorice, or sarsaparilla.”W zakresie działania moczopędnego dobrze sprawdza się w mieszankach z wilżyną, połonicznikiem, rdestami, perzem, nawłocią i brzozą. W zakresie działania przeciwreumatycznego polecam kojarzyć ziele ostrożenia z kwiatem wiązówki, zielem zagorzałka, zielem pszeńca, zielem szelężnika, liściem topoli, pączkami topoli, rdestem japońskim, lukrecją lub kolcoroślem (sarsaparilla).

Restharrow is listed as an ingredient in blends intended to remove water and salt from the body, an effect associated with swelling and high blood pressure.

„Bladderwrack and Laminaria are especially useful in treating obesity because they not only speed up metabolism (the oxidation of fats and carbohydrates), but also remove water from the body that remains after fatty tissue, which in turn retains excess sodium chloride responsible for swelling and high blood pressure. Very good results are also achieved by combining bladderwrack or Laminaria with herbs that have a strong diuretic and saluretic effect (a saluretic is a drug that mainly causes sodium ions to be excreted in urine and possibly sweat), such as juniper, restharrow, horsetail, goldenrod, birch, knotgrass or Polygonum hydropiper, and Herniaria.”Morszczyn i listownica są szczególnie przydatne w leczeniu otyłości, ponieważ nie tylko przyśpieszają metabolizm (utlenianie tłuszczów i cukrowców), ale również usuwają wodę z organizmu, pozostałą po tkance tłuszczowej, w której z kolei zalega zbędny chlorek sodu, odpowiedzialny za obrzęki i nadciśnienie. Bardzo dobre wyniki daje też połączenie morszczynu lub listownicy z ziołami działającymi silnie moczopędne, a zarazem silnie saluretycznie (saluretyk – lek powodujący głównie wydalenie jonów sodu wraz z moczem i ewentualnie z potem), np. jałowcem, wilżyną, skrzypem, nawłocią, brzozą, rdestem ptasim lub ostrogorzkim, połonicznikiem.

Restharrow is listed as an herb combined with other herbal ingredients in detoxification treatments.

„Theobromine and theobromine-containing raw materials are good detoxifying agents, especially when combined with other herbs, such as goldenrod, restharrow, horsetail, and soapwort. In the early 20th century, theobromine sodium acetate—Theobromino-natrium aceticum, or Agurin—was introduced for medical use. It was taken by mouth as a diuretic at a dose of 250–500 mg in peppermint infusion or peppermint water; less often, larger doses of 1 g were taken three times a day.”Teobromina i surowce teobrominowe to dobry środek odtruwający, szczególnie w połączeniu z innymi ziołami, np. nawłocią, wilżyną, skrzypem, mydlnicą.

Restharrow is listed among the herbs used for urinary tract infections.

„Along with restharrow, Herniaria, and orthosiphon, bearberry is one of the most important and effective herbs used for urinary tract infections. The leaves of this small shrub are collected from May to July. The leaves taste bitter and astringent.”Mącznica obok wilżyny, połonicznika, ortosyfonu, wilżyny, rdestów, liści borówki, stanowi jedno z najważniejszych i efektywniejszych ziół stosowanych w zakażeniach układu moczowego. Liście tej krzewinki zbiera się od maja do lipca. Smak liści jest gorzkawo-cierpki.
