Extracts from bilberry fruit are said to help relieve diarrhea and improve microcirculation, including in the eye.

„Extracts from bilberry fruit have a constipating, antidiarrheal, anti-inflammatory effect and protect the structure of blood vessels. They improve blood microcirculation, including in the eyeball. They reduce the activity of enzymes responsible for angina attacks.”Wyciągi z owoców borówki działają zapierająco, przeciwbiegunkowo, przeciwzapalnie i ochronnie na strukturę naczyń krwionośnych. Poprawiają mikrocyrkulację krwi, w tym również w obrębie gałki ocznej. Zmniejszają aktywność enzymów odpowiedzialnych za powstawanie ataków dusznicy bolesnej.
Henryk Różański

Bilberry flavonoids and anthocyanosides are said to improve circulation in the eye’s capillaries.

„Flavonoids and anthocyanosides improve circulation in the eye’s capillaries, prevent degeneration of blood vessel walls, and have antiplatelet and anti-heart-attack effects. They inhibit atherosclerotic changes in blood vessels. Fruit extracts lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels in the blood.”Flawonoidy i antocyjanozydy poprawiają krążenie w naczyniach włosowatych oka, zapobiegają degeneracji ścian naczyń, działają antyagregacyjnie i przeciwzawałowo. Hamują zmiany miażdżycowe w naczyniach. Wyciągi z owoców obniżają poziom cholesterolu i triglicerydów we krwi.
Jan Jaśkowski

Bilberry anthocyanins are said to support retinal microcirculation and the eye’s adaptation to darkness.

„Bilberry anthocyanins improve retinal microcirculation, increase the flexibility of capillaries, and help the eye adapt to darkness (so-called night vision). The active compounds in bilberry help neutralize free radicals, which may slow the aging of eye structures.”Antocyjany z borówki poprawiają mikrokrążenie siatkówki, zwiększają elastyczność naczyń włosowatych i ułatwiają adaptację oka do ciemności (tzw. widzenie zmierzchowe). Substancje aktywne borówki wspierają neutralizację wolnych rodników, co pomaga spowalniać procesy starzenia się struktur oka.

Dried bilberry fruit has a traditional use for mild diarrhea, but there is not enough evidence from clinical studies.

„The HMPC’s conclusions on using medicines containing dried bilberry fruit to treat mild diarrhea and minor inflammation of the lining of the mouth are based on their “traditional use.” This means that although there is not enough evidence from clinical studies, the effectiveness of these herbal medicines is considered plausible, and there is evidence that they have been used safely in this way for at least 30 years (including for at least 15 years in the EU).”Ustalenia HMPC dotyczące stosowania leków zawierających wysuszony owoc borówki czernicy do leczenia łagodnej biegunki i niewielkiego stanu zapalnego błony śluzowej jamy ustnej opierają się na ich „tradycyjnym stosowaniu”.

Tannins in dried fruit may explain its traditional use for mild diarrhea.

„The results of laboratory studies, although limited, suggest that tannins in dried bilberry fruit have antibacterial and astringent effects. This may explain the traditional use of dried fruit to treat mild diarrhea and minor inflammation of the lining of the mouth.”Wyniki badań laboratoryjnych, chociaż ograniczone, wskazują na to, że garbniki zawarte w wysuszonym owocu borówki czernicy mają działanie przeciwbakteryjne i ściągające. Może to wyjaśniać tradycyjne zastosowanie wysuszonego owocu do leczenia łagodnej biegunki i niewielkich stanów zapalnych błony śluzowej jamy ustnej.

A decoction of bilberry leaves is described as a remedy for diarrhea, taken in small amounts every few hours.

„For gastrointestinal irritation (diarrhea, inflammation), it is best to take a decoction of bilberry leaves every 2–3 hours in small amounts (100 ml at a time). It is a very effective antidiarrheal remedy. Medicinal tinctures are made from the fruit. Bilberry leaf infusion – Infusum Fol.”W przypadku nieżytu przewodu pokarmowego (biegunka, stan zapalny) odwar z liści borówki najlepiej zażywać co 2-3 godziny małymi porcjami (po 100 ml). Jest to bardzo skuteczny środek przeciwbiegunkowy. Z owoców przygotowywane są nalewki lecznicze. Napar z liści borówki – Infusum Fol.

A decoction of bilberry leaves is described as a remedy for diarrhea.

„A decoction is also made from the leaves, but it is not suitable for long-term use because it may cause constipation. For gastrointestinal irritation (diarrhea, inflammation), it is best to take a decoction of bilberry leaves every 2–3 hours in small amounts (100 ml at a time). It is a very effective antidiarrheal remedy. Medicinal tinctures are made from the fruit.”Z liści również sporządzany jest odwar, lecz nie nadaje się on do długotrwałego stosowania, bowiem może wywołać zaparcie.

Both bilberry leaves and fruit are described as having antidiarrheal and anti-inflammatory effects.

„Both bilberry leaves and fruit increase diuresis and have astringent, antidiarrheal, and anti-inflammatory effects. The venoprotective properties of bilberry anthocyanosides (their protective effect on blood vessels) have also been noted. Flavonoids and anthocyanosides improve circulation in the eye’s capillaries, prevent degeneration of blood vessel walls, and have antiplatelet and anti-heart-attack effects.”Zarówno liście, jak i owoce borówki zwiększają diurezę i działają ściągająco, przeciwbiegunkowo i przeciwzapalnie. Zwrócono również uwagę na venoprotekcyjne (ochronne działanie na naczynia) właściwości antocyjanozydów borówki. Flawonoidy i antocyjanozydy poprawiają krążenie w naczyniach włosowatych oka, zapobiegają degeneracji ścian naczyń, działają antyagregacyjnie i przeciwzawałowo.

In fruit flies, bilberry anthocyanin extract reduced damage to inflamed intestines and improved survival.

Aim of the study: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic recurrent disease that can be controlled by various natural extracts. Anthocyanins (ANCs) from bilberry have significant antioxidant capacity and are widely used as food colors and antioxidants.

Results: melanogaster, as demonstrated by a 16S rDNA analysis, but improved the antioxidant capacity by activating the relative gene expression of NRF2 signaling pathways in the intestine of D. melanogaster with DSS-induced inflammation. Therefore, the results demonstrate that BANCs effectively alleviate intestinal inflammatory injury induced by DSS and improve the antioxidant capacity of D. melanogaster by modulating NRF2 signaling pathways, and could thus promote the application of BANCs as functional foods.
