In folk medicine, sanicle was used for respiratory complaints.
„Used in folk medicine for respiratory ailments. In America, the species Sanicula marylandica Linne (Black snakeroot) and Sanicula canadensis Linne (Poolroot) are used; their roots and leaves are harvested. Hagers Handbuch der Pharmazeutischen Praxis, published 36 years later (in 1938), contains no further information about Sanicula, apart from identifying its groups of active compounds: tannins and bitter substances.”Stosowane w medycynie ludowej w cierpieniach dróg oddechowych. W Ameryce stosowany jest gatunek Sanicula marylandica Linne (Black snakeroot) i Sanicula canadensis Linne (Poolroot), z których pozyskuje się korzeń i liście. 36 lat później wydany Hagers Handbuch der Pharmazeutischen Praxis (1938 r.) nie zawiera dodatkowych informacji o Sanicula, z wyjątkiem ustalenia grupy czynnych związków: garbniki i goryczki.

A decoction of sanicle is taken by mouth for cough, hoarseness, phlegm, and bronchitis. It is also used externally to wash the skin and rinse mucous membranes.
„Decoction – Decoctum Saniculae: Pour 1 glass of water over 1 tablespoon of rhizomes with roots. Boil for 20 minutes, leave covered for 20 minutes, then strain. Take 1/2 glass by mouth 4 times a day. For cough, hoarseness, phlegm, and bronchitis, sweeten with honey. It can also be used to wash the skin and rinse mucous membranes in cases of infections, inflammation, erosions, and wounds.”Odwar – Decoctum Saniculae: 1 łyżkę kłaczy z korzeniami zalać 1 szklanką wody, gotować 20 minut, odstawić pod przykryciem na 20 minut, przecedzić. Sanicle was listed as an ingredient in a mixture used for duodenal ulcers.
„For duodenal ulcers, combine it with centaury, ribwort plantain, silverweed, peppermint, and Sanicula europaea (sanicle). For white vaginal discharge, combine knotgrass with oak bark, nettle herb, and chamomile flowers for irrigation.
Synergistic effect with hemp-nettle and horsetail.”Przy wrzodach dwunastnicy łączyć z centurią, babką lancetowatą, pięciornikiem gęsim, miętą pieprzową i Sanicula europaea (żankiel zwyczajny). Przy upławach białych, do irygacji łączyć rdest ptasi z korą dębu, zielem pokrzywy i kwiatem rumianku.
Synergizm z poziewnikiem i skrzypem.

Sanicle has traditionally been used for wounds, and the composition of its underground parts suggests wound-healing effects similar to those of its above-ground parts.
Aim of the study: The aerial parts (Herba Saniculae) and the underground parts (Radix Saniculae) of Sanicula europaea (sanicle) have been used traditionally in Austrian folk medicine to treat wounds. Interestingly, in the Austrian vernacular, "Radix Saniculae" can also refer to the underground parts of Cardamine enneaphyllos.
Results: In contrast, the underground parts of Cardamine enneaphyllos contain two glucosinolates and their breakdown products. These findings suggest the same wound-healing activity for the underground parts of Sanicula europaea as was already found for its aerial parts. The glucosinolates detected in Cardamine enneaphyllos substantiate its use in wound healing. Nevertheless, the presented analytical methods allow for easy discovery of adulterations.

In a laboratory study, sanicle leaf extract inhibited the replication of parainfluenza virus type 2.
Aim of the study: The antiviral activity of Sanicula europaea L. extracts against human parainfluenza virus type 2 (HPIV-2) was examined.
Results: The extract prepared from the leaves of the plant and a fraction separated from the crude extract with gel filtration chromatography were found to inhibit HPIV-2 replication without any toxic effect on Vero cells. The acidic fraction obtained from the crude extract of S. europaea leaves was found to be the most active fraction with plaque inhibition assay at non-cytotoxic concentrations. Unfortunately, antiviral activity was not detected in the molecules purified from the crude ethanol extract of Sanicula leaves.

A study of sanicle extracts found anti-HIV activity, which was highest in the 50% ethanol extract.
Aim of the study: Extracts from the aerial parts of Sanicula europaea L. were investigated for their anti-HIV activity, and the 50% ethanolic extract was shown to exhibit the highest activity.
Results: Extracts from the aerial parts of Sanicula europaea L. were investigated for their anti-HIV activity, and the 50% ethanolic extract was shown to exhibit the highest activity. A new triterpene saponin glycoside, 21 beta-(angeloyloxy)-3-O-[beta-D-arabinopyranosyl(1-->4)-beta- D-glucopyranosyl (1-->3)-beta-D-glucuronopyranosyl propyl ester]-3 beta,15,16,22 alpha,28 beta-pentahydroxy-delta(12)-oleanene, saniculoside N (1), in addition to the known phenolic acids, rosmarinic acid (2), and caffeic acid (3) were isolated as major components. Rosmarinic acid was established as the principal active substance.

„The biotech industry's history of mendaciousness regarding GMO plants extends all the way back to the first test plots of GMO crops. We were assured (apparently without any basis in fact) there was no chance whatever of the genes spreading to other plants or weeds. As has been the case ever since, these bland and unverified assurances turned out to be either wishful thinking or a willful lies, unsupported by any testing. Within three years, the weeds surrounding the GMO crop fields showed the same genetic modification and resistance to pesticide as the GMO crops. By this time, though, the genie was already out of the bottle.”The biotech industry's history of mendaciousness regarding GMO plants extends all the way back to the first test plots of GMO crops. „The Noose Tightens
When we go back in history, we see that already in 1958 the Dutch Medicine Laws defined all substances in nature as medicines, if they were in any way presented as suitable for curing or preventing a disease. So once a common beet, or vitamin C, was associated with a preventive medicinal effect, it legally became a drug. This was the start of censorship and control, and has been buttressed by subsequent European regulations. Slowly but relentlessly, since 1958, all substances in nature are being brought into the realm of medical care.”The Noose Tightens When we go back in history, we see that already in 1958 the Dutch Medicine Laws defined all substances in nature as medicines, if they were in any way presented as suitable for curing or preventing a disease.
