In the 19th century, yarrow was used in infusions to aid digestion.

„In 19th-century Poland, in the Russian partition, yarrow flowers were used in official medicine at a single dose of 5 g and a daily dose of 15 g, in infusions, as a stimulant and to aid digestion. They were also used externally for washing and bathing. An example of an old prescription: Rp.”W Polsce, w zaborze rosyjskim w XIX wieku kwiat krwawnika był uzywany w medycynie oficjalnej w dawce jednorazowej 5 g, dawce dobowej 15 g, w naparach, jako środek podniecający i poprawiający trawienie. Henryk Różański recommends yarrow extracts for inflammation of the digestive tract, catarrh of the stomach and intestines, heartburn, peptic ulcers, and digestive system infections.

„Yarrow extracts are helpful in treating inflammation of the digestive tract, catarrh of the stomach and intestines, hyperaciditas (heartburn, excess stomach acid), allergies, peptic ulcers, and digestive system infections. Yarrow also has a beneficial effect on the respiratory system, acting as an antiseptic, antispasmodic, and cough suppressant (I recommend it for catarrh of the upper respiratory tract).”Wyciągi z krwawnika są pomocne w leczeniu stanów zapalnych przewodu pokarmowego, nieżytu żołądka i jelit, hyperaciditas (zgagi, nadmiernej kwasowości żołądka), alergii, choroby wrzodowej i infekcji układu pokarmowego. Krwawnik wpływa też korzystnie na układ oddechowy, działając odkażająco, rozkurczowo i przeciwkaszlowo (polecam przy nieżytach górnych dróg oddechowych).

Young yarrow leaves were eaten in spring to help with stomach and intestinal complaints.

„Young yarrow leaves were eaten in spring as part of strengthening and detoxifying treatments, and for ailments of the liver, pancreas, spleen, stomach, and intestines. It was believed that yarrow helped treat tuberculosis and relieved the symptoms of chlorosis in women (anemia, pale skin, cold and clammy hands and feet, and fainting).”Młode listki krwawnika zjadano na wiosnę, przy kuracjach wzmacniających, odtruwających, przy cierpieniach wątroby, trzustki, śledziony, żołądka i jelit. Wierzono, że krwawnik wspomaga leczeni gruźlicy oraz usuwa objawy blednicy u kobiet (niedokrwistość, bladość powłok skórnych, zimne i mokre dłonie oraz stopy, omdlenia).

In the 19th century, yarrow was said to stimulate digestion more strongly than chamomile.

„It was noted, however, that yarrow has a stronger stimulating effect on digestive processes: it stimulates the secretion of digestive juices and improves digestion, while chamomile has a stronger calming effect on the nervous system. Both herbs have an antispasmodic effect on smooth muscles.”Zauważono jednak, że krwawnik oddziałuje silniej stymulująco na procesy trawienne, pobudza wydzielanie soków, poprawia strawianie; natomiast rumianek silniej oddziałuje uspokajająco na układ nerwowy. Oba surowce działają rozkurczowo na mięśnie gładkie.
