Small-flowered cranesbill has anti-inflammatory, antiallergic, and antibacterial effects, lowers blood sugar, and reduces coughing and respiratory secretions.

„Phytopharmacological effects: astringent, antidiarrheal, strongly anti-inflammatory, antiallergic, anti-radical, antibacterial, fungistatic, and oncostatic. It disrupts mevalonate metabolism and thus lowers blood cholesterol. Phytosterols and tannins also have a cholesterol-lowering effect.”Działanie fitofarmakologiczne: ściągające, przeciwbiegunkowe, wybitnie przeciwzapalne, antyalergiczne, przeciwrodnikowe, antybakteryjne, fungistatyczne, onkostatyczne. Small-flowered cranesbill has also been described as a remedy that reduces prostate swelling and protects the liver from fatty changes.

„Phytosterols and tannins also have a cholesterol-lowering effect. It lowers the glucose concentration in blood plasma. It inhibits swelling of the prostate gland. It protects the liver tissue from fatty changes. It suppresses coughing and excessive mucus and mucopurulent-serous secretions in the respiratory tract. It has an antiandrogenic effect.”Dodatkowo hipocholesterolemicznie działają fitosterole i garbniki. Obniża stężenie glukozy w osoczu krwi. Hamuje obrzęk gruczołu krokowego. Ochrania miąższ wątroby przed stłuszczeniem. Hamuje kaszel i zbyt obfitą wydzielinę śluzową oraz ropno-surowiczą w drogach oddechowych. Wywiera działanie antyandrogenne.

Herb-Robert infusion is used for coughs and catarrh of the digestive tract, while flower infusions are also used for eye inflammation.

„For coughs and catarrh of the digestive tract, use it more often but in small doses, for example, 50–100 ml every 2 hours. It can even be given to small children. The infusion is also suitable for external use. Flower infusions rich in anthocyanins, proanthocyanidins, free phenolic acids, and flavonoids are effective in treating inflammation of the eyes (choroid, eyelids, conjunctiva, cornea)—taken orally and used at the same time in compresses.

The review describes Herb-Robert as a plant studied for its anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antioxidant, and other potential uses.

Aim of the study: In this modern era, in which interest in natural compounds is gaining more ground, Geranium robertianum L. (Gr), a species with long use in traditional medicine, stands out for its promising potential in managing a multitude of health issues.

Results: and the searched phytocompound and biological effect. According to the literature the main phytochemical classes identified in different types of extracts include tannins, flavonoids, phenolic acids, and essential oils. The most important biological actions described in the literature are antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antiulcerative, neuroprotective, anti-cancer, and antidiabetic effects. However, knowledge about Gr is still relatively limited, requiring more detailed study regarding its pharmacological proprieties and the molecular mechanisms behind them.

In a study, combining a plant extract containing Herb-Robert with acyclovir was associated with faster healing of ulcers in herpetic keratitis.

Aim of the study: The paper presents a study of the associated effect of acyclovir and a plant extract from Calendula officinalis, Actium lappa and Geranium robertianum. We studied a number of 52 patients suffering of herpetic keratitis.

We studied a number of 52 patients suffering of herpetic keratitis. Better results in resolving complains and faster healing of ulceration were obtained using the associated treatment then the usual acyclovir treatment only.

In a laboratory study, Herb-Robert extract showed antiviral activity against SARS-CoV-2.

Aim of the study: In search for effective prophylactic and possibly curative therapeutics against SARS-CoV-2, an historical-ethnopharmacological approach was used to select plants described in the Receptarium of Burkhard III von Hallwyl (RBH), a recipe text from 16th century Switzerland. Ten plant species were selected from the pre-established RBH database based on specific historical uses presumably linked with the treatment of viral infections.

Results: Of the ten plants tested, four displayed an antiviral activity ≥ 50% at 16.7 μg/ml with acceptable cell viability (> 75%): Artemisia vulgaris L. (aerial parts), Geranium robertianum L. (arial parts), Sambucus nigra L. (leaves) and Viola odorata L. (leaves). The crude extracts were partitioned in aqueous and organic pre-fractions and further analyzed. The ethyl acetate pre-fractions of G. robertianum, S. nigra, and V. odorata expressed significant antiviral activity of nearly 100% at 5.6 μg/ml (P < 0.05). The most potent inhibitory activity was observed for the ethyl acetate pre-fraction of the leaves of Viola odorata with 87% at 1.9 μg/ml (P < 0.0001). Alongside bioactivity testing, phytochemical fingerprints were made, with the aim to provide a preliminary characterization of the active crude extracts. An overview of published phytochemical and antiviral data on the four active plants reveals a fragmentary picture, especially when considering the plant parts investigated.

Herb-Robert is traditionally used for oral and throat complaints, wounds, and inflammation, and a review describes its potential in dentistry.

Aim of the study: Background: Geranium robertianum L. (GR) is a perennial herbaceous plant that belongs to the Geraniaceae family, widely distributed across temperate regions of Europe, Asia, North Africa, and America.

Results: Recent studies have confirmed that these constituents are responsible for the plant's therapeutic potential in oral medicine. These compounds possess a variety of effects, from antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties to antifungal and antiviral activities, as well as antioxidant, wound-healing, and anticancer benefits relevant to dental medicine. Conclusions: Despite its long-standing traditional use, GR remains largely underexplored in the context of oral health. This gap in the literature highlights GR as a promising phytotherapeutic candidate, calling for further in vitro and in vivo studies in order to investigate its efficacy and establish its mechanism of action in dental medicine.
