DiseasesDiabetes—can it be reversed without medication?

Bracia Rodzeń claim that a properly followed low-carbohydrate diet can lead to remission of type 2 diabetes.
- In the study described, after one year 97% of about 330 people had reduced or stopped using insulin, and 58% no longer had a diabetes diagnosis.
- This does not apply to every type of diabetes: in type 1, the immune system destroys the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas, and there is a lack of reliable clinical trials on black seed in these patients.

According to Bracia Rodzeń, a carefully followed low-carbohydrate diet can reverse type 2 diabetes and lead to remission.
„When a low-carbohydrate diet is carefully followed, type 2 diabetes can be reversed and potentially brought into remission.

The description of type 1 diabetes says that the immune system destroys the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas.
„As a result of autoimmunity, the body's immune system destroys the β cells in the islets of Langerhans in the pancreas. The β cells stop producing insulin. A lack of insulin causes blood glucose levels to rise. This type of diabetes usually occurs in children and young people, and we are currently seeing a huge increase in cases.”W wyniku autoagresji układ immunologiczny organizmu niszczy komórki ß wysp Langerhansa trzustki. Komórki ß przestają produkować insulinę. Z powodu niedoboru insuliny dochodzi do podwyższenia stężenia glukozy we krwi. Ten rodzaj cukrzycy występuje zwykle u dzieci i osób młodych, a obecnie mamy odczynienia z gigantycznym wzrostem zachorowalności.

Black seed improved some glucose measurements in people with type 2 diabetes, and its use has been proposed as an addition to oral medication.
„Nigella sativa supplementation was found to significantly improve fasting blood glucose, HbA1c, total cholesterol, and LDL cholesterol in patients with type 2 diabetes. Accordingly, a systematic review assessing the effects of N. sativa on type 2 diabetes also suggested that it may be used alongside other oral antidiabetic medications to treat the disease. Black seed is also recommended for type 1 diabetes, but the passage points out that reliable clinical trials in these patients are lacking.
„Black seed is mainly used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes, but it is also often recommended for type 1 diabetes. Thymoquinone has documented immunomodulatory properties (it inhibits NF-κB, TNF-α, IL-6, IL-1β), making it a potentially interesting treatment for type 1 diabetes (T1D), but reliable RCTs in patients with type 1 diabetes are still lacking.”Czarnuszka przede wszystkim ma zastosowanie w leczeniu cukrzycy 2, ale jest również często polecana przy cukrzycy 1. Tymochinon posiada udokumentowane właściwości immunomodulujące (hamuje NF-κB, TNF-α, IL-6, IL-1β), co czyni go potencjalnie interesującym lekiem w cukrzycy 1 ( T1D), lecz nadal brakuje wiarygodnych RCT u pacjentów z cukrzycą typu 1.

Vinegar may lower glucose levels or improve the body's response to a meal, but reversal of diabetes is not described here.
„In patients with diabetes, daily intake of 10–30 ml of vinegar improved the glycaemic response to meals rich in carbohydrates.
The cited studies show that people with diabetes can confidently benefit from the properties of apple cider vinegar, which may significantly improve their quality of life.”U pacjentów z cukrzycą dzienne przyjmowanie octu w ilości 10–30 ml poprawiło odpowiedź glikemiczną na posiłki bogate w węglowodany.
Przytoczone badania pokazują, że osoby chore na cukrzycę mogą śmiało korzystać z właściwości octu jabłkowego, co może znacznie poprawić komfort ich życia.
Bracia Rodzeń
Bracia Rodzeń say that diabetes may be reversed without medication, but this passage does not explain how or provide results.
„These diseases are a real scourge, and not only among adults. Because of the widespread advertising and positive image of sweets and fruit juices, as well as commonly recommended high-carbohydrate diets, these serious diseases are affecting increasingly younger people. Find out how to reverse them without medication.”Te choroby, to prawdziwa plaga j nie tylko u dorosłych. Participants in a diet-and-exercise programme had a greater reduction in HbA1c than those receiving standard care, and some achieved remission.
Aim of the study: We conducted the largest and longest clinical trial comparing a whole-food, plant-based intervention with standard medical care (SMC) in individuals with type 2 diabetes.
Results: Compared with SMC (n=90 randomised; n=70 analysed), the PB+Ex (n=79 randomised; n=66 analysed) intervention decreased HbA1c by an additional 14 mmol/mol (1.3%) at week 12 (-22 vs -7 mmol/mol [-2.0% vs -0.7%]; p<0.0001) and 8 mmol/mol (0.7%) at week 24 (-16 vs -8 mmol/mol [-1.4% vs -0.7%]; p=0.01). At the same time, 63% of medicated PB+Ex participants reduced their glucose-lowering medications (vs 24%; p=0.006), and 23% of PB+Ex participants with a baseline HbA1c <75 mmol/mol (<9%) achieved remission. Additionally, the PB+Ex intervention reduced weight (-2.7 kg; p<0.0001), C-reactive protein (-11 nmol/l; p=0.005) and cardiovascular medication use compared with SMC. At intermediate timepoints, it improved glucose, insulin, HOMA-IR, cholesterol, triglycerides and heart rate, but not at week 24. A whole-food, plant-based lifestyle intervention was more effective for improving glycaemic control than SMC.

The review indicates that a low-carbohydrate diet may support short-term remission of type 2 diabetes, although the benefits diminish after six months.
Aim of the study: Diets have been a central component of lifestyle modification for decades. The Low-Carbohydrate Diet (LCD), originally conceived as a treatment strategy for intractable epilepsy (due to its association with ketogenesis), became popular in the 1970s and since then has risen to prominence as a weight loss strategy. To explore the efficacy, limitations and potential safety concerns of the LCD.
Results: Evidence supports the efficacy of the LCD in the short term (up to 6 months) for reducing fat mass and achieving remission of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2D). However, the longer-term efficacy of the LCD is disappointing, with its potential for weight loss and metabolic benefits diminishing beyond 6 months of use. Furthermore, practical limitations of the LCD include the restriction of food choices, which can make it less acceptable to individuals, particularly in the longer term. There are also safety concerns about the LCD arising from nutritional imbalances (with a relative excess of dietary fat and protein intake, associated dyslipidaemia, and an increased risk of insulin resistance and T2D development) and ketotic effects. Finally, the LCD often leads to a reduction in dietary fibre intake, with potentially serious adverse consequences for overall health and the gut microbiota.

The case report shows that one person achieved medication-free remission of diabetes after intensive lifestyle changes and maintained it for nine years.
Aim of the study: A 61-year-old man with newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes (T2D), obesity by Asian-specific body mass index (BMI) criteria (28.8 kg/m²), dyslipidemia, and hypertension enrolled in a three-month intensive lifestyle intervention (ILI) at the Freedom from Diabetes Clinic, India. The ILI comprised a whole-food, plant-based, vegan diet, daily structured exercise (aerobic, resistance, and yoga), and stress reduction through meditation and journaling.
Results: The patient maintained remission for nine consecutive years, as confirmed annually by a 75 g oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT). The annual OGTT demonstrated normal glucose tolerance on all nine occasions. This case illustrates that sustained T2D remission and broad metabolic improvement are achievable through intensive lifestyle modifications alone, even in a patient aged 61 years at diagnosis. This reinforces the role of structured lifestyle interventions as a viable first-line strategy for newly diagnosed T2D.

„The placebo A placebo is an inert intervention given to the "control group" of a study. Its purpose is to make sure the test intervention effects are real, and not just the perception of the patients or observers. However, in an attempt to mimic the test intervention as closely as possible, the placebo may not be truly inert as intended. For instance, even a classic "sugar pill" placebo is not inert when studying diabetes. Olive oil and IV multivitamins have been used as placebos in large studies published within the past year.”The placebo A placebo is an inert intervention given to the "control group" of a study.
