Jerzy Jaśkowski warns that prolonged exposure to blue light from screens can strain the eyes and disrupt sleep.

  • Jerzy Jaśkowski also mentions the risk of retinal damage and, in extreme cases, macular degeneration.

What the authors write

Jerzy Jaśkowski

Prolonged exposure to blue light can strain the eyes, disrupt sleep and, in extreme cases, damage the retina and lead to macular degeneration.

„It keeps us alert during the day, but prolonged exposure to it can lead to eye strain, disrupt our sleep rhythm and, in extreme cases, also cause retinal damage and macular degeneration. So I began looking for scientific papers on how to prevent and treat this damage.”To ono utrzymuje stan czuwania w ciągu dnia, jednak długotrwałe wystawienie na jego działanie może prowadzić do przemęczenia oczu, zaburzać rytm snu, a w skrajnych przypadkach również prowadzić do uszkodzenia siatkówki i zwyrodnienia plamki żółtej. Zacząłem więc poszukiwania prac naukowych na temat zapobiegania i leczenia tych uszkodzeń.

Phone screens emit blue light, and excessive exposure to it may be associated with eye complaints and sleep problems.

„Blue light is emitted by electronic devices: computer and laptop screens, televisions, mobile phone and smartphone screens. Blue light has a cool color and stimulates the body. Excessive exposure of the eyes to blue light can lead, among other things, to dry eyes, watery eyes and disruption of the body's circadian rhythm.”Blue Light jest emitowane przez urządzenia elektroniczne: ekrany komputerów i laptopów, telewizorów, ekrany telefonów komórkowych, smartfonów, Niebieskie światło ma chłodną barwę i działa pobudzająco na organizm. Nadmierna ekspozycja oczu na Blue Light może prowadzić m.in. do suchości oka, łzawienia i zaburzenia rytmu dobowego organizmu.

Blue light from screens can be absorbed in the retina, and the author links this to a risk of retinal damage.

„Blue light passes through the cornea and the eye's lens, and is then absorbed in the pigmented layer of the retina, the choroid and the blood vessels. The absorbed radiation can cause a thermal effect or photochemical reactions, resulting in retinal damage.”Światło niebieskie jest przepuszczane przez rogówkę i soczewkę oczną, a następnie pochłaniane w warstwie barwnikowej siatkówki, w naczyniówce i naczyniach krwionośnych. Pochłonięte promieniowanie może wywoływać efekt termiczny bądź reakcje fotochemiczne, skutkujące uszkodzeniem siatkówki.

The author writes that natural blue light does not threaten eyesight, but prolonged exposure to blue light can cause eye and sleep problems.

„Natural blue light reaches the retina in small amounts and does not pose a threat to eyesight. But there is not a word about artificial blue light. As you can see, no one includes scientific papers that debunk this nonsense.”Naturalne światło niebieskie dociera do siatkówki oka w niewielkiej ilości i nie stanowi zagrożenia dla wzroku. Ale ani słowa nie przeczytamy o sztucznym świetle niebieskim. Jak można się przekonać, nikt nie zamieszcza prac naukowych, okalających te głupoty.
Jerzy Jaśkowski

The author lists dry and painful eyes, headaches, blurred vision and sleep problems as possible effects of blue light.

„Other examples of the harmful effects of blue light include: dry eye syndrome (burning, itching and stinging in the eye, problems with blinking, vision disturbances, excessive tearing), sleep problems (lack of sleep or poor sleep can lead to other complications, such as excessive fatigue, irritability, indigestion, irregular heartbeat, depression and problems with concentration), eye pain (pressure in the eyes, stinging in the eyes, problems with blinking, burning and redness of the eye), headaches (throbbing pain around the temples, neck tension; sometimes a headache leads to nausea and vomiting), blurred vision (the eyes have difficulty focusing on nearby, as well as distant, objects, which appear blurry).”Inne przykłady szkodliwego działania niebieskiego światła to: zespół suchego oka (pieczenie, swędzenie i kłucie w oku, problemy z mruganiem, zaburzenia widzenia, nadmierne łzawienie), problemy ze snem (brak snu lub słaby sen mogą prowadzić do innych powikłań, takich jak nadmierne zmęczenie, drażliwość, niestrawność, nieregularne bicie serca, depresja, problemy z koncentracją), ból oka (ucisk w oczach, kłucie w oczach, problemy z mruganiem, pieczenie i zaczerwienienie oka), bóle głowy (pulsujący ból wokół skroni, napięcie szyi, czasem ból głowy prowadzi do nudności i wymiotów), zamglony wzrok (oczy mają trudności z ustawieniem ostrości na bliskich, ale także odległych obiektach, które wydają się rozmyte).

A review found no confirmed evidence that low levels of radiofrequency waves above 6 GHz, such as those used in 5G, are harmful to health.

Aim of the study: The increased use of radiofrequency (RF) fields above 6 GHz, particularly for the 5G mobile phone network, has given rise to public concern about any possible adverse effects on human health. Public exposure to RF fields from 5G and other sources is below the human exposure limits specified by the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP).

Results: Epidemiological studies showed little evidence of health effects, including cancer at different sites, effects on reproduction and other diseases. This review found no confirmed evidence that low-level RF fields above 6 GHz, such as those used by the 5G network, are hazardous to human health. Future experimental studies should improve their design, with particular attention to dosimetry and temperature control. Future epidemiological studies should continue to monitor long-term health effects in the population related to wireless telecommunications.
