Compounds in cocklebur have been attributed with anti-inflammatory, antirheumatic, and anticancer effects, and xanthumin has also been attributed with a calming effect.

„Xanthostrumarin and xanthumin have anti-inflammatory, antirheumatic, and anticancer effects. Xanthumin has a calming effect. Thiazinedione, 4-oxo-1(5), (13)-xanthatriene-12,8-olide, and xanthumin have fungistatic effects. Derivatives of quinic, caffeic, ferulic, and caffeoylquinic acids prevent liver cirrhosis and fatty liver disease and support the regeneration of hepatocytes.”Xanthostrumarin i ksantumina działają przeciwzapalnie, przeciwreumatycznie i przeciwnowotworowo. Ksantumina wywiera wpływ uspokajający. Thiazinedione, 4-oxo-1(5), (13)-xanthatriene-12,8-olide i ksantumina działają fungistatycznie. Pochodne kwasy chinowego, kawowego, ferulowego i kawoilochinowego zapobiegają marskości i stłuszczeniu wątroby, wspomagają regenerację hepatocytów.

Hydroquinone compounds have been described as disinfecting the urinary tract and intestines, while phytosterols reduce prostate swelling and improve urination.

Hydroquinone compounds disinfect the urinary tract and intestines. Phytosterols reduce swelling of the prostate gland and improve urination. They also have lipotropic effects.”Kwas ferulowy, chinowy, kawowy i chlorogenowy obniżają stężenie glukozy i lipidów we krwi oraz hamują rozwój wielu nowotworów, np. raka szyjki macicy, raka gruczołu krokowego. Związki hydrochinonowe odkażają drogi moczowe i jelita. Fitosterole zmniejszają obrzęk gruczołu krokowego i poprawiają mikcję. Działają również lipotropowo.

The review describes the traditional use of cocklebur for conditions including rhinitis, sinusitis, headache, hives, and rheumatism.

Aim of the study: Xanthium strumarium L. (Asteraceae) is a common and well-known traditional Chinese herbal medicine usually named Cang-Er-Zi, and has been used for thousands of years in China.

Results: Modern research shows that the extracts and compounds from X. strumarium possess wide-ranging pharmacological effects, including anti- allergic rhinitis (AR) effects, anti-tumor effects, anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects, insecticide and antiparasitic effects, antioxidant effects, antibacterial and antifungal effects, antidiabetic effects, antilipidemic effects and antiviral effects. However, further research should focus on investigating bioactive compounds and demonstrate the mechanism of its detoxification, and more reasonable quality control standards for X. strumarium should also be established.

„Drawing conclusions from such a study can hardly be a good example of "evidence based medicine." Different Types of Kidney Stones (Renal Calculi) There is a considerable variety of kidney stones. Here are five well-known ones: 1. Calcium phosphate stones are common and easily dissolve in urine acidified by vitamin C. 2. Calcium oxalate stones are also common but they do not dissolve in acid urine. We will discuss this type further below. 3. Magnesium ammonium phosphate (struvite) stones are much less common, often appearing after an infection. They dissolve in urine acidified by vitamin C. 4.”Drawing conclusions from such a study can hardly be a good example of "evidence based medicine."
