Dead Tooth — A Silent Cause of Diseases Throughout the Body?

Sources: 9 · Article: 10 756 characters

Igor Dogocki points out that a dead tooth can cause painless local inflammation, and that the infection can spread beyond the jaw.

  • According to him, residues in the tooth’s tubules after root canal treatment can form toxic compounds that enter the organs through the bloodstream.
  • Dogocki considers tooth extraction and tissue cleaning a way to remove bacteria completely.
  • He also cites the account of a person who reported feeling better after having a root-canaled tooth removed.

A dead tooth may be associated with painless local inflammation and the risk of the infection spreading.

„In addition, painless, localized inflammation of the bone and other periodontal tissues around the tip of the root of a dead tooth often occurs (for example, a periapical lesion, a granuloma, or a cyst). This leads to bone loss and, importantly, carries the risk of the infection spreading.”Poza tym często dochodzi do nie dającego dolegliwości, miejscowego zapalenia kości i innych tkanek przyzębia otaczających wierzchołek korzeń martwego zęba (np. zmiana okołowierzchołkowa, torbiel, cysta), w wyniku którego dochodzi do zaniku kości i co istotne grozi rozprzestrzenieniem się infekcji.

After root canal treatment, residues in the tooth’s tubules can break down into toxic compounds that may enter the organs through the bloodstream.

„Residues of nerve fibers and blood vessels, made up of protein and fat, then break down in the tubules into compounds resembling “cadaveric poison.” These include hydrogen sulfide, putrescine, methyl mercaptan, cadaverine, skatole, and thioether. Each is a highly toxic substance that can travel through the blood to any organ in our body.”Składające się z białka oraz tłuszczu pozostałości włókien nerwowych oraz naczyń krwionośnych rozkładają się wówczas w kanalikach na związki, które przypominają „trupi jad”, a do których należą między innymi siarkowodór, putrescyna, merkaptan metylowy, kadaweryna, skatole oraz tioeter. Każda z nich to silnie trująca substancja, która wraz z krwią jest w stanie przedostać się do dowolnego narządu w naszym organizmie.

Igor Dogocki links these compounds to possible enzyme damage, hormonal, neurological, and autoimmune diseases, and strain on the immune system.

„It is known, however, that even at very low concentrations, these compounds can destroy enzymes that catalyze chemical processes in a healthy body. Deactivation of these enzymes, which are essential for the body to function, can lead to many hormonal, neurological, or autoimmune diseases. In addition, toxins released from the tooth place a constant burden on the immune system, which must keep bacteria and the inflammation they cause “in check.””Wiadomo jednak, że nawet w minimalnych stężeniach, związki te mogą niszczyć enzymy katalizujące procesy chemiczne w zdrowym organizmie.

Igor Dogocki says that pathogens in dead teeth can transform mercury residues into forms that enter the bone and spread throughout the body.

„Pathogenic organisms in dead teeth, as well as in teeth that have or once had amalgam fillings, can transform mercury residues into various organic forms that are particularly toxic to us. These substances pass through the tooth tissues into the jawbone and then spread throughout the body through the bloodstream.”Znajdujące się w martwych zębach, a także w zębach, w których dawniej lub nawet obecnie tkwią plomby z amalgamatu, patogenne organizmy mogą przekształcić resztki rtęci w jej różne organiczne formy, które mają na nas szczególnie toksyczny wpływ. Wspomniane substancje przedostają się przez tkanki zęba do kości szczęki/żuchwy, a z niej poprzez układ krwionośny rozprzestrzeniają się po całym organizmie.

Igor Dogocki points out that root canal treatment does not remove the entire source of infection, and considers tooth extraction and tissue cleaning a way to remove bacteria completely.

„Properly performed root canal treatment can eliminate pain caused by inflammation of the pulp and preserve the hard tissues of the tooth, but it does not eliminate the entire source of infection. The only way to completely eliminate bacteria in a dead tooth and prevent them from colonizing the tooth again is to remove it and clean the surrounding periodontal tissues.”Poprawnie wykonane leczenie kanałowe pozwala na wyeliminowanie bólu spowodowanego zapaleniem miazgi i zachowanie twardych tkanek zęba, ale nie eliminuje całego źródła infekcji. Jedynym sposobem na kompletne wyeliminowanie bakterii znajdujących się w zębie martwym i uniemożliwienie im ponownego zasiedlenia tego zęba jest usunięcie go i oczyszczenie otaczających go tkanek przyzębia.

One person described numerous symptoms and reported feeling better after having a root-canaled tooth removed.

„However, I felt the greatest improvement after having a root-canaled tooth extracted, the socket cleaned, and an immediate implant placed. That very day, I noticed greater clarity of thought and that my sinuses had cleared. The symptoms on the left side of my body and the constant neck pain I had suffered for years went away.”Jednak największy rezultat poczułam po wyrwaniu zęba leczonego kanałowo, oczyszczeniu zębodołu i wstawieniu implantu natychmiastowego. Już w tym samym dniu zauważyłam większą jasność myślenia oraz odblokowanie zatok. Dolegliwości z lewej strony ciała i nieustający ból karku trwający latami odpuściły.

Igor Dogocki compares cavitations to dead teeth and links them to the production of toxins and inflammatory mediators that may cause symptoms in other parts of the body.

„As with dead teeth, toxins and inflammatory mediators (TNF-α, IL-1, RANTES, or CCL-5) are produced at cavitation sites. These may cause a range of symptoms in other parts of the body—neurological problems or inflammation in the joints are especially common.”Podobnie jak w przypadku martwych zębów, w miejscach kawitacji powstają toksyny i mediatory stanu zapalnego (TNF-α, IL-1, RANTES, czyli CCL-5), które mogą powodować różnorodne objawy w innych częściach ciała – szczególnie częste są problemy neurologiczne lub stany zapalne w stawach.

The summary states that a dead tooth may have no visible symptoms, and that endodontic disease can have local and systemic effects.

Aim of the study: Endodontic disease is a highly prevalent (>10% of all dogs) and insidiously painful process that can have significant local and systemic effects. The root canal system is a delicate organ and is prone to inflammation, infection, and partial and complete necrosis.

Results: Once properly educated, the practitioner must remain vigilant for subtle signs of the disease process. Standard root canal therapy is an effective method of removing the inflammation, infection, and associated discomfort of the endodontically diseased tooth while maintaining its function. Endodontic failure most likely remains hidden unless dental radiology is used. Follow-up radiographs at regular intervals throughout the patient's life are critical for ensuring the long-term success of any endodontic therapy.

The review describes how bacteria and toxins from a diseased tooth may sustain inflammation, while systemic diseases may hinder healing after root canal treatment.

Aim of the study: The healing of periapical lesions after root canal treatment (RCT) is not the result of the curative action of the treatment. The process of healing begins with inflammation, and is resolved by the clearance of the immunogen that induces the immune response.

Results: Systemic factors (age, nutrition, stress, hormones, smoking habits), and systemic diseases, such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, osteoporosis, HIV infection, inflammatory bowel disease, and others, can influence or interfere in the repair of periapical tissues after RCT. The results of this narrative review show worse success rate of RCT, with higher percentage of postoperative radiolucent periapical lesions and higher proportion of non-retained teeth (RFT), associated with several systemic conditions, such as smoking habits and diabetes.

The review describes a possible link between chronic inflammation and bacteria in the mouth and inflammatory processes in the brain and Alzheimer’s disease.

Aim of the study: Periodontitis is a polymicrobial chronic inflammatory disease of tooth-supporting tissues with bacterial etiology affecting all age groups, becoming chronic in a subgroup of older individuals. Periodontal pathogens Porphyromonas gingivalis, Tannerella forsythia, and Treponema denticola are implicated in the development of a number of inflammatory pathologies at remote organ sites, including Alzheimer's disease (AD).

Results: The long-term effect of inflammatory mediators, pathogens, and/or their virulence factors, reaching the brain systemically or otherwise would, over time, prime the brain's own microglia in individuals who have inherent susceptibility traits. Such susceptibilities contribute to inadequate neutralization of invading agents, upon reaching the brain. This has the capacity to create a vicious cycle of sustained local inflammatory milieu resulting in the loss of cytoarchitectural integrity and vital neurons with subsequent loss of function (deterioration in memory). The possible pathways between PD and AD development are considered here, as well as environmental factors that may modulate/exacerbate AD symptoms.

„Instead, the removal of the pulp by the root canal procedure permanently prevents immune system access to the pathogens in the tooth, especially in the miles of dentinal tubules extending away from the pulp throughout the tooth structure. Without immune support, no infection can be resolved.”Instead, the removal of the pulp by the root canal procedure permanently prevents immune system access to the pathogens in the tooth, especially in the miles of dentinal tubules extending away from the pulp throughout the tooth structure. „Vitalism is a belief that starts from the premise that living organisms are fundamentally different from non-living entities because they contain some non-physical, multi dimensional element or are governed by different principles than are inanimate things. Where vitalism explicitly invokes a vital principle, that element is often referred to as the vital spark, energy, odic force, biological intelligence or life force which some equate with the soul or spirit. Vitalists argued that the processes of life could not be reduced to a mechanistic process.”Vitalism is a belief that starts from the premise that living organisms are fundamentally different from non-living entities because they contain some non-physical, multi dimensional element or are governed by different principles than are inanimate things.
