Sources: 9 · Article: 12 414 characters

Henryk Różański describes caprylic acid as an agent that inhibits the growth of certain fungi and bacteria.

  • For fungal infections, Henryk Różański mentions use on the skin and mucous membranes, as well as vaginal use, including for Candida infections.
  • Henryk Różański also mentions its use for intestinal candidiasis and other listed intestinal diseases.
  • The description indicates that free caprylic acid, not its glycerides, is supposed to work in treating the skin and mucous membranes; taking it may cause belching and a warming sensation in the abdomen.

What the authors write

Henryk Różański

Caprylic acid is supposed to inhibit the growth of certain fungi and bacteria and help prevent infections of the skin and mucous membranes.

„According to more recent studies, caprylic acid has a stronger fungistatic and bacteriostatic effect than propionic and acetic acids. Taking caprylic acid may help prevent bacterial diseases of the digestive tract. Emulsions and creams containing caprylic acid are also suitable for preventing fungal and bacterial infections of the skin and mucous membranes.”Wg nowszych badań kwas kaprylowy działa silniej fungistatycznie i bakteriostatycznie niż kwas propionowy i octowy.

Vaginal preparations containing caprylic acid are intended to treat and prevent Candida fungal infections and E. coli infections.

„There are vaginal medicines containing caprylic acid for treating and preventing fungal infections (Candida) and E. coli infections. I personally recommend compounded dermatological and gynecological preparations containing 5–15% caprylic acid. Caprylic acid works synergistically with copper, tin, zinc, silver, and undecylenic and undecyl acids to combat fungi and bacteria, especially those resistant to antibiotics.”istnieją leki z kwasem kaprylowym dopochwowe służące do leczenia i zapobiegania grzybicom (Candida) i infekcjom E. coli.

Caprylic acid is listed as an agent used for intestinal candidiasis, cryptococcosis, and colibacillosis.

„It is used to treat irritable bowel syndrome, ulcerative colitis, intestinal candidiasis, cryptococcosis, and colibacillosis. There are also preparations that contain both caprylic acid and beta-glucan, which stimulate the gastrointestinal immune system (GALT and MALT) and at the same time help fight disease-causing fungi (Candida).”Ma zastosowanie w leczeniu zespołu jelita drażliwego, wrzodziejącego zapalenia jelita grubego, kandydozy jelit, kryptokokkozy i kolibakteriozy. Istnieją również preparaty zawierające jednocześnie kwas kaprylowy i beta-glukan, które stymulują układ odpornościowy przewodu pokarmowego GALT, MALT i jednocześnie pomagają w zwalczeniu grzybów chorobotwórczych (Candida).
Henryk Różański

For diseases of the skin and mucous membranes, free caprylic acid is supposed to work, not its glycerides.

„Only free caprylic acid works in treating diseases of the skin and mucous membranes (glycerides do not have antibacterial properties); it is best used as a lotion, ointment, or cream. Vaginally, it can be used as a gel, emulsion, or suppository containing caprylic acid.”W leczeniu chorób skóry i błon śluzowych działa tylko wolny kwas kaprylowy (glicerydy nie mają właściwości antybakteryjnych), najlepiej pod postacią lotio, maści, kremu. Dopochwowo możliwe jest stosowanie żelu, emulsji lub globulek zawierających kwas kaprylowy.
Henryk Różański

Taking caprylic acid may cause belching, a warming sensation in the abdomen, and changes in the smell of sweat, sebum, and stool.

„For treating candidiasis and bacterial infections, giving free caprylic acid seems more reasonable, preferably in the form of enteric-coated capsules. Taking caprylic acid may cause belching and a “warming sensation in the abdomen.” Sebum, sweat, and stool may change in smell.”W przypadku leczenia kandydozy, infekcji bakteryjnych bardziej racjonalne wydaje się podawanie wolnego kwasu kaprylowego, najlepiej w postaci kapsułek dojelitowych Przy zażywaniu kwasu kaprylowego mogą wystąpić: odbijanie i uczucie “grzania w brzuchu”. Łój i pot, a także kał zmieniają zapach.

In a small clinical study, an ointment containing caprylic acid and polygalacturonic acid was associated with improvement in the condition of all chronic wounds treated with it.

Aim of the study: The aim of this human trial is to compare the efficacy and safety of polygalacturonic-caprylic acid (PG-CAP) ointment with MediHoney in chronic wounds at three international medical centres. In this prospective open-label study, patients with chronic full-thickness wounds were randomised to daily treatment with PG-CAP ointment or MediHoney.

Results: Half of the failures in the MediHoney arm were associated with death (15%). No failures, adverse events, or deaths occurred in the PG-CAP arm. PG-CAP wound ointment is a novel combination of two plant-based compounds that pose minimal risk of promoting antimicrobial resistance. It was highly effective in eradicating wound-pathogen biofilms in vitro and promoted chronic wound healing in vivo with minimal inflammatory reactions. Our findings support PG-CAP as safe, noninferior, and possibly more effective than MediHoney in healing chronic contaminated wounds.

In a laboratory study, an ointment containing caprylic acid and polygalacturonic acid eliminated Candida auris biofilms in 8 of 9 strains and greatly reduced their amount in the remaining strain.

Aim of the study: Candida auris is a rapidly spreading, virulent pathogen that is frequently resistant to multiple antifungal drugs. It can form biofilms and infect wounds. Hence, there is a need for C.

Results: MediHoney produced reductions ranging from 2 to 4 log10 without fully eradicating any strains. The differences between PG+CAP and MediHoney were statistically significant (p < 0.05). These results suggest that PG+CAP is a promising antimicrobial ointment that warrants further in vivo study in wounds that may be colonized by C. auris biofilms.

In a laboratory model, an ointment containing caprylic acid and polygalacturonic acid greatly reduced the number of viable yeasts in biofilms of several Candida species.

Aim of the study: Candida colonization and biofilms are significant contributors to impaired wound healing. Consequently, improved treatments are needed to eradicate Candida biofilms in wounds.

Results: PG + CAP was superior (p < 0.01) to HOCl in eradicating biofilms of all Candida species except C. auris, for which both treatments fully eradicated all viable organisms. The use of HOCl in Candida-colonized wounds should take into account the amount of extracellular matrix in the wound bed. PG + CAP warrants further study in wounds compromised by Candida biofilms.

A laboratory study found that caprylic acid inhibited virulence factors in Candida albicans, including the formation of filamentous structures and biofilms.

Aim of the study: Capric acid and caprylic acid are dietary food components. They have been found to inhibit virulence factors such as morphogenesis, adhesion, and biofilm formation in the human pathogenic yeast Candida albicans.

Results: Cell cycle studies revealed that capric and caprylic acids arrested the cell cycle at the G2/M and S phases. Targeting virulence factors such as the yeast-to-hypha transition is effective for treating opportunistic fungal infections. This research suggests that both capric and caprylic acids may be effective interventions for treating C. albicans yeast infections.

In a laboratory study, milk containing caprylic acid inhibited the growth of Candida albicans, suggesting possible use in disinfecting root canals.

Aim of the study: The success of endodontic therapy depends on thorough biomechanical preparation and the use of effective intracanal irrigants to achieve a microbe-free canal before obturation. Candida albicans is the most commonly isolated fungus from infected root canals and has a strong affinity for dentin. Because it is resistant to several intracanal medicaments, including calcium hydroxide, alternative antifungal agents are needed.

Results: Goat milk produced the widest inhibition zone, followed by buffalo and cow milk, with significant differences (P < 0.001). Caprylic acid, derived from bovine milk, can serve as a natural, biocompatible alternative to existing intracanal irrigants for controlling fungal infections during endodontic therapy.
